An Ode ~ by Terri Medina, Whose Heart Still Belongs to "Dad"

~ DAD WORE FALSE EYELASHES ~

You had a child in '61 while still a child yourselfI knew your love and passively played "baby doll".  In '66 you were quite a sight! our school days had just begun -- dad wore false eye-lashes; the PTA was never the same again!  In a decade of hippies, of war and of peace; there was kool-aid, music and the smell of candle wax.  My third grade class hosted Father-Daughter Tea; and there was my dad - eyelashes in placeThere was dancing and laughter - our home filled with friends.  We were allowed to skip school - to swing in the park - to laugh in the face of the sky! dad was always there, eyelashes and allGrowing up with you was easy, 'cause you were such a kid: riding bicycles with us, love beads bouncing ... the occasional food-fight.  Taking turns on a pogo-stick, you fell and broke a foot - we laughed all the way to the emergency room!  Oh, my protective and loving parent! meeting young suitors at the door - dad wore falsh eyelashes while brandishing a Saturday Night Special!  You stood by as we grew and cried at our weddings ~ always soft and pretty, and strong ... never holding back.  You worked hard to keep us from knowing just how poor we were, the secret was yours to keepIt may have been a miracle that got us through those years - dad wore false eyelashes - and flew by the seat of your pants!

The eyelashes are gone now; the love beads forgotten; but when I look into your eyes I see it all so clearly:  the youngster holding a baby girl, the undaunted love between us.  The years of play and music and goodness ~ no matter what else was going on in the world.  The softness, the strength, the smiles and the tears ~ you wore it all so well.

To my most honored & lovely and beautiful one:   Thanks for the strength, the love and eyelashes.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY - MOM! The best DAD I could've had!

    Holier Than .... Whom?

It may seem easier to be holy when no one else is around to frustrate our preferences, but that is a false, untested holiness.  Isolation breeds deceitfulness; it's easy to fool ourselves into thinking we're mature if there is no one to challenge us.  Real maturity shows up in relationships.  The body of Christ needs you.  God has a unique role for you to play in His family.  This is called our "ministry", and God has gifted you for this assignment: "A Spiritual gift is given to each of us as a means of helping the entire church" (1 Corinthians 12:7).  You share in Christ's mission in the world.  When Jesus walked the earth, God worked through the physical body of Christ; today he uses His spiritual body.  The church is God's instrument on earth.  We're not just to model God's love by loving each other; we're to carry it together to the rest of the world.  This is an incredible privilege we've been given together.  As members of Christ's Body, we're His hands, His feet, His eyes and His heart......

One Love, One Heart ~ Let's Get Together And Feel Alright (Bob Marley)

When we come together in love as a church family;  from different backgrounds, race, and social status, it is a powerful witness to the world.  We are not the Body of Christ on our own.  We need others to express that. ...  Together, not separated, we are His Body.

As a participating member [of a church] we learn to care about others and share the experiences of others.

"If one part of the body suffers, all the other parts suffer with it.  Or if one part of the body is honored, all the other parts share its honor" (1 Corinthians 12:26).   Only in regular contact with ordinary, imperfect believers can we learn real fellowship and experience the New Testament truth of being connected and dependent on each other.

    One Body

While my relationship to Christ is personal, God never intended it to be private, in God's family I am connected to every other believer, and I will belong to each of you for eternity.  The bible says, "In Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others" (Romans 12:5)

    Isn't that AWESOME????

This blog has been running since November, 2005!  I began it when I started my bible study.  You've all been so supportive and best of all, helped educate a baby Christian.  You stayed at my side when I did the Forty-Days of Purpose .... Held my hand through an abusive marriage and subsequent divorce.  Counseled me while I soul-searched an ordination.

Now in retrospect, I can see how much I've grown .... in no small part thanks to my brothers and sisters here at Christians Unite .... Looks like one body to me!

    I love you

    We are Family

"Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me"

    Legacy

Love leaves a legacy.  How you treated other people, not your wealth or accomplishments, is the most enduring impact you can leave on eath.

As Mother Teresa said, "It's not what you do, but how much love you put into it that matters."  Love is the secret of a lasting heritage.  When life on earth is ending, people don't surround themselves with objects.  What we want around us is people -- people we love and have relationships with.  In our final moments we all realize that relationships are what life is all about.

Wisdom is learning that truth sooner rather than later.

I now minister and provide spiritual counsel at Sugar Sisters.  A wonderful, Christian Site for ladies of all ages, race, ethnicity, religion, and marital status.  I decided NOT to accept the ordination offered me by the Universal Church .... a plaque on the wall is for MAN to see .... My work is for the LORD ..... Many thanks to you who helped with my soul search.

Because GOD Says So, That's Why!

Because God is love, the most important lesson he wants us to learn on earth is how to love.  It is in loving that we are most like him, so love is the foundation of every command he has given us.  "The Whole Law can be summed up in this one command: 'Love others as you love yourself' (Galations 5:14)

Why does God insist that we give special love and attention to other believers?  Why do they get priority in loving?  Because God wants his family to be known for its love more than anything else.  Jesus said our love for each other - not our doctrinal beliefs - is our greatest witness to the world.  He said, "Your strong love for each other will prove to the world that you are my disciples." (John 13:35)

    TalkerCat's been sighted!

I'm back from my last bout with Neuropathy!  All I can say my friends is, if you're diabetic, take care of the disease!  Once the damage is done, it cannot be reversed .....

Thanks to you all for the uplifting and inspiring comments and emails... I forget sometimes how much we need to and should, love one another as we do ourselves.  I've gathered an ecclectic collection of friends here and I appreciate each and every one!  God Bless.

Watch for future posts!  TalkerCat is baaaaaack!

    PRAISE THE LORD!!
