    Bare Facts

My confession: last night I watched a DVD movie borrowed from a friend, “Failure to Launch”. I’m getting along in years, but in all of my hopes and dreams I never included the desire to see Terry Bradshaw’s bare rear end! And not just once, but ad nauseum and in sagging detail. From all the reviews and plaudits I’ve read on the back cover of DVD’s lately, it would certainly appear that no normal human is consulted when a movie is reviewed or rated. This movie was supposed to be one of those humorous, upbeat romances – Love, ala 21st Century (PG-13 – parent’s strongly cautioned). In fact it did a really fine job of exposing (no pun intended) why there is such a shortage of the real thing. The hero of the movie was an upbeat 30’s something loser living with his parents. He was a master at taking, and totally self-absorbed. I suppose in 2006, that doesn’t narrow the field much. The female heart throb was an unlicensed psychologist who somehow made a living seducing men into maturity. What a concept! Now here’s a challenge – find a female who ever managed to make that connection and I’ll write her an apology! Until Mr. Bradshaw began to exhibit his birthday suit I was beginning to think his part in this talent spill was almost believable – compared to the other “actors”. Maybe I’m a little old fashioned, but I still believe that humans were created to have and enjoy sex – men with women and women with men, and I can see in the Biblical book of Romans that He who created sex, also created it with reasonable limits (I just mentioned two). But I’m getting really fed up with having to watch phony renditions (we hope) of movie actors having sex with each other. Isn't this really porn? After watching this shallow representation of extraordinarily shallow humans on my big-screen, I would have to say that Mr. Bradshaw’s dimpled derriere rated the movie more accurately than the childishly sick minds who labeled it PG-13. It was, in fact, a very accurate talent gauge of the entire, sorry event. I’m sorry I wasted any of my time watching this one, but I’ve really enjoyed writing this. And that, by the way, expresses more genuine emotion than the entire movie elicited!
