LAUGHTER DOES GOOD LIKE A MEDICINE!
When Albert Einstein was making the rounds of the speaker's circuit, he usually found himself eagerly longing to get back to his laboratory work. One night as they were driving to yet another rubber-chicken dinner, Einstein mentioned to his chauffeur (a man who somewhat resembled Einstein in looks & manner) that he was tired of speechmaking.
"I have an idea, boss," his chauffeur said. "I've heard you give this speech so many times. I'll bet I could give it for you." Einstein laughed loudly and said, "Why not? Let's do it!" When they arrive at the dinner, Einstein donned the chauffeur's cap and jacket and sat in the back of the room. The chauffeur gave a beautiful rendition of Einstein's speech and even answered a few questions expertly.
Then a supremely pompous professor asked an extremely esoteric question about anti-matter formation, digressing here and there to let everyone in the audience know that he was nobody's fool. Without missing a beat, the chauffeur fixed the professor with a steely stare and said, "Sir, the answer to that question is so simple that I will let my chauffeur, who is sitting in the back, answer it for me."

At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated "If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving twenty-five dollar cars that got 1000 mi/gal."
Recently General Motors addressed this comment by releasing the statement: "Yes, but would you want your car to crash twice a day?"
Not only that, but....
Every time they repainted the lines on the road you would have to buy a new car.
Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason, and you would just accept this, restart and drive on.
Occasionally, executing a maneuver would cause your car to stop and fail and you would have to re-install the engine. For some strange reason, you would accept this too.
You could only have one person in the car at a time, unless you bought "Car95" or "CarNT". But, then you would have to buy more seats.
Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast, twice as easy to drive, but would only run on five percent of the roads.
The Macintosh car owners would get expensive Microsoft upgrades to their cars, which would make their cars run much slower.
The oil, gas and alternator warning lights would be replaced by a single "general car default" warning light.
New seats would force everyone to have the same size butt.
The airbag system would say "are you sure?" before going off.
If you were involved in a crash, you would have no idea what happened.

LAUGHTER DOES GOOD LIKE A MEDICINE!
A poet and a scientist were traveling together on a plane. The scientist was bored and said to the poet, "Hey, you, do you want to play a game? I'll ask you a question, and if you get it wrong, you give me $5. Then, you ask me a question, and if I can't answer it, I'll give you $5."
The poet thought about this for a moment, but he decided against it, seeing that the scientist was obviously a very bright man. He politely turned down the scientist's offer.
The scientist, who was really bored, tried again. "Look, I'll ask you a question, and if you can't answer it, you give me $5. Then you ask me a question, and if I can't answer it, I'll give you $50."
The poet agreed. "Okay," the scientist said, "what is the exact distance between the Earth and the Moon?"
The poet, obviously not knowing the answer, didn't stop to think about the scientist's question. He took a $5 bill out of his pocket and handed it to the scientist.
The scientist happily accepted the bill and promptly said, "Okay, now it's your turn."
The poet thought about this for a few minutes, then asked, "All right, what goes up a mountain on three legs, but comes down on four?"
The bright glow quickly vanished from the scientist's face. He thought about this for a long time, taking out his notepad and making numerous calculations. He finally gave up on his notepad and took out his laptop, using his Multimedia Encyclopedia. As the plane was landing the scientist gave up. He reluctantly handed the poet a $50 bill.
The poet accepted it graciously, getting ready to stand up. "Wait!" the scientist shouted, "you can't do this to me! What's the answer?"
The poet looked at the scientist and calmly put a $5 bill into his hand.

The birds have to use potholders to pull worms out of the ground.
The trees are whistling for the dogs.
The best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.
Hot water now comes out of both taps.
You can make sun tea instantly.
You learn that a seat belt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron.
The temperature drops below 95 and you feel a little chilly.
You discover that in August it only takes 2 fingers to steer your car.
You discover that you can get sunburned through your car window.
You actually burn your hand opening the car door.
You break into a sweat the instant you step outside at 7:30 a.m.
Your biggest bicycle wreck fear is, "What if I get knocked out and end up lying on the pavement and cook to death?"
You realize that asphalt has a liquid state.

LAUGHTER DOES GOOD LIKE A MEDICINE!
A man was well inebriated, but he got behind the wheel of his car anyway and began to drive home. Of course, he couldn't exactly drive straight or stay below the speed limit. Two policemen pulled him over and demanded a sobriety test. They asked him to walk a straight line, and he failed. They began to take him with them, but suddenly they received a call on their walkie-talkies, asking them to go to another part of town. They asked the man to be patient while they called someone else to cover for them. But the man grew tired of waiting and, after a few minutes, drove home. He got in bed and said to his wife, who had been waiting for him, "If any policemen come looking for me, tell them I'm not home yet." The wife agreed, somewhat confused and a little embarrassed. No sooner than her husband fell asleep did she hear a knock at the door. Sure enough, it was the two policemen. They asked about her husband, and she replied that he wasn't home. Then they asked to check her garage. Puzzled, she agreed. She opened up the garage for them--and there sat the policemen's squad car, lights still flashing.

What more do we need to know?
There is no need for us to speculate about the precise nature of heaven. We are assured on the authority of Jesus Christ that it is the house and the home of his Father and ours (there are twenty-two references to the Father in John 14), that his home is a prepared place containing many rooms or resting places, and that he himself will be there. What more do we need to know? To be certain that where he is, there we shall be also should be enough to satisfy our curiosity and allay our fears. John Stott

Theory is not enough
Biblical preaching and teaching on such topics as prayer
and evangelism I take to be indispensable. But in such
practical activities a grasp of the theory is not enough.
We can learn to pray only by praying, especially in a
prayer group. And we can learn to evangelize only by going
out with a more experienced Christian either to witness on
the street corner or to visit in some homes. Moreover, it
is by active membership in the body of Christ that we learn
the meaning of the church which is described in the New
Testament. A fellowship meeting is a happening in which
the individual is accepted, welcomed and loved. Then
abstract concepts of forgiveness, reconciliation and
fellowship take on a concrete form, and preached truth
comes to life. JOHN STOTT

At a Catholic school, there was a "meet the teacher" open house for the 2nd graders. After the meeting, a Nun announced that there would be a small reception afterwards in the cafeteria. All the children and parents filed in, and saw on a table a plate of apples, a plate of cookies, and some water bottles and juice. As the children went through the line, one boy saw that there was a sign on the plate of apples that said, "Take only one. God is watching." So, the boy took an apple and moved on to the cookies. He helped himself, and then took a small piece of paper, and wrote: "Take all you want”. God is watching the apples."

Truth and love
Love is the first mark of a true and living church and
truth is the second, because the Scriptures hold love and
truth together in balance. Some Christians are so resolved
to make love paramount, that they forget the sacredness of
revealed truth. 'Let us drown our doctrinal differences',
they urge, 'in the ocean of brotherly love!' Others are
equally mistaken in their pursuit of truth at the expense
of love. So dogged is their zeal for God's Word that they
become harsh, bitter and unloving. Love becomes
sentimental if it is not strengthened by truth, and truth
becomes hard if it is not softened by love. We need to
preserve the balance of the Bible which tells us to hold
the truth in love, to love others in the truth, and to grow
not only in love but in discernment. JOHN STOTT

Love and acceptance
'Acceptance' is a popular word today, and rightly so.
Theologically, God's acceptance of us is quite a good
contemporary term for justification. But we should be
cautious about modern talk of 'unconditional acceptance',
as when the concept of an 'open church' is canvassed, in
which membership is offered to everybody, with no questions
asked and no conditions laid down. For though God's love
is indeed unconditional, his acceptance of us is not, since
it depends on our repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. We
need to bear this in mind when we consider that we are to
accept the weak (Rom. 14:1) since 'God has accepted him'
(14:3), and to accept one another 'just as Christ accepted'
us (15:7). JOHN STOTT

Little Johnny's class were on an outing to their local police station where they saw pictures, of the ten most wanted men, tacked to a bulletin board. On the way out of the police station Little Johnny said to the officer, "it was so nice of you to put my daddy's picture up there."

Promises fulfilled
The true fulfilment of the Old Testament promises is not
literal but spiritual. They are fulfilled today not in the
Jewish nation, as some dispensationalists hold, nor in the
British or Anglo-Saxon people, as the British Israelites
teach, but in Christ and in the people of Christ who
believe. We Christians are Abraham's seed, who inherit the
blessing promised to his descendants ... all the promises
of God to his people in the Old Testament become ours if we
are Christ's. JOHN STOTT

Diversity and harmony
The church as a multi-racial, multi-cultural community is
like a beautiful tapestry. Its members come from a wide
range of colorful backgrounds. No other human community
resembles it. Its diversity and harmony are unique. It is
God's new society. And the many-coloured fellowship of the
church is a reflection of the many-coloured (or 'many-
splendoured', to use Francis Thompson's word) wisdom of
God. JOHN STOTT

"By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things." Galatians 5:22-23 (NRSV)

The boss was concerned that his employees weren’t giving him enough respect, so he tried and old fashioned method of persuasion: He brought in a sign that said “I’m the Boss” and taped it to his door.
After lunch, he noticed someone had taped another note under his. “Your wife called. She wants her sign back!”

A PEOP;E IN CHRIST
Fundamental to New Testament Christianity is the concept of
the union of God's people with Christ. What constitutes
the distinctness of the members of God's new society? Not
just that they admire and even worship Jesus, not just that
they assent to the dogmas of the church, not even that they
live by certain moral standards. No, what makes them
distinctive is their new solidarity as a people who are 'in
Christ'. By virtue of their union with Christ they have
actually shared in his resurrection, ascension and session.
In the 'heavenly places', the unseen world of spiritual
reality, in which the principalities and powers operate
(Eph. 3:10; 6:12) and in which Christ reigns supreme
(1:20), there God has blessed his people in Christ (1:3),
and there he has seated them with Christ (2:6). For if we
are seated with Christ in the heavenlies, there can be no
doubt what we are sitting on: thrones! Moreover, this
talk about solidarity with Christ in his resurrection and
exaltation is not a piece of meaningless Christian
mysticism. It bears witness to a living experience, that
Christ has given us on the one hand a new life (with a
sensitive awareness of the reality of God, and a love for
him and for his people) and on the other a new victory
(with evil increasingly under our feet). We are dead, but
have been made spiritually alive and alert. We were in
captivity, but have been enthroned. JOHN STOTT

THOUGHT FOR TODAY!
'When we get freedom . Freedom is much misunderstood. Even those who talk loudest and
longest about freedom have not always paused first to define what they are talking about. A notable example is the Marxist orator who was waxing eloquent on the street corner about the freedom we would all enjoy after the revolution. 'When we get freedom,' he cried, 'you'll all be able to smoke cigars like that,' pointing to an opulent gentleman walking by. 'I prefer my fag,' shouted a heckler. 'When we get freedom,' the Marxist continued, ignoring the interruption and warming to his theme, 'you'll all be able to drive in cars like that,' pointing to a sumptuous Mercedes which was driving by. 'I prefer my bike,' shouted the heckler. And so the dialogue continued until the Marxist could bear his tormentor no longer. Turning on him, he said: 'When we get freedom, you'll do what you're told.'*
*Galatians 5:13(CEV)
13My friends, you were chosen to be free. So don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do anything you want. Use it as an opportunity to serve each other with love.
1 Peter 2:16(CEV)
16You are free, but still you are God’s servants, and you must not use your freedom as an excuse for doing wrong.

"God's gifts put man's best dreams to shame."* -- Elizabeth Barrett Browning Singer
*"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God—9not the result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life." Ephesians 2:8-10 (NRSV)

THOUGHT FOR TODAY!
The Christian is a man who has ceased to do what he wants to do and who has begun to do what Christ wants him to do."I'm trying to learn the truth of these words. In a consumer culture which makes religion a means to my end, I am tempted every day to pray so God will bless me, to read Scripture so he will guide me, to serve him so he will serve me. I am tempted by a transactional religion in which I do my part and God does his part. But none of this is biblical Christianity.* Quoted by Jim Denison, Resident Theologian at the Baptist General Convention of Texas in his devotional of 7/16/09 GodIssues

Bill Clinton, Bill Gates and Al Gore were in an airplane that crashed. They're up in heaven, and God's sitting on the great white throne. God addresses Al first. "Al, what do you believe in?"
Al replies, "Well, I believe that the combustion engine is evil and that we need to save the world from CFCs and that if any more Freon is used, the whole earth will become a greenhouse and we'll all die."
God thinks for a second and says, "Okay, I can live with that. Come and sit at my left."
God then addresses Bill Clinton: "Bill, what do you believe in?"
Bill Clinton replies, "Well, I believe in power to the people. I think people should be able to make their own choices about things and that no one should ever be able to tell someone else what to do. I also believe in feeling people's pain."
God thinks for a second and says, "Okay, that sounds good. Come and sit at my right."
God then addresses Bill Gates: "Bill Gates, what do you believe in?"
Bill Gates says, "I believe you're in my chair."

HEARTS AS WELL AS MINDS!
In order to urge people to use their minds, it is not
necessary to urge them to suppress their feelings. I often
say to students at the Institute for Contemporary
Christianity in London that we are not in the business of
'breeding tadpoles'. A tadpole is a little creature with a
huge head and nothing much else besides. Certainly there
are some Christian tadpoles around. Their heads are
bulging with sound theology, but that is all there is to
them. No, we are concerned to help people to develop not
only a Christian mind, but also a Christian heart, a
Christian spirit, a Christian conscience and a Christian
will, in fact to become whole Christian persons, thoroughly
integrated under the lordship of Christ. JOHN STOTT

The believer's faith is as valid as its object, which is the living (Christ) and written (Bible) Word of God. With the infinite God of the universe as the object of Christian faith, there is virtually no limit to the spiritual heights that positive believing can take you.* (Neil Anderson 6/4/03)

You Don't Need to Be a Weatherman...
It was two o'clock in the morning and a husband and wife were asleep, when suddenly the phone rang.
The husband picked up the phone and said, "Hello? ... How the heck do I know? What am I, the weather man?" -- and promptly slammed the phone down.
His wife rolls over and asks, "Who was that?"
The husband replies, I don’t know. Some guy who wanted to know if the coast was clear.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY!
Compared with the miracle of the forgiveness of sin, the experience of sanctification is small. Sanctification is simply the wonderful expression or evidence of the forgiveness of sins in a human life. But the thing that awakens the deepest fountain of gratitude in a human being is that God has forgiven his sin. Paul never got away from this. Once you realize all that it cost God to forgive you, you will be held as in a vise, constrained by the love of God.* Oswald Chambers: My Utmost for His Highest: An Updated Edition in Today's Language. I often wondered why Paul, the strongest advocate for salvation by faith without works, worked like his life depended on it. He worked that hard because he was compelled by the love of God in Christ. (Doyle Purifoy)
*Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.
9 The commandments, "You shall not commit adultery; You shall not murder; You shall not steal; You shall not covet"; and any other commandment, are summed up in 10 Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfilling of the law. Romans 13:8-10 (NRSV)

Earl and Bob, both obsessed with baseball, never missed their favorite team’s game. They promised, whoever died first, and went to heaven, would come back to earth and tell the other if there was baseball in heaven. One day, Earl died. Bob waited for him to come back. Finally Earl did. He said to Bob. "I have good news and bad news. I'll tell you the good news first. There is baseball in heaven." Bob said, "That’s the best news!" Then Earl said, time for the bad news....”You're pitching tomorrow night."

C.S. Lewis on Reasoning to Atheism
“Supposing there was no intelligence behind the universe, no creative mind. In that case, nobody designed my brain for the purpose of thinking. It is merely that when the atoms inside my skull happen, for physical or chemical reasons, to arrange themselves in a certain way, this gives me, as a by-product, the sensation I call thought. But if so, how can I trust my own thinking to be true? Its like upsetting a milk jug and hoping that the way it splashes itself will give you a map of London. But if I can't trust my own thinking, of course I can't trust the arguments leading to Atheism, and therefore have no reason to be an Atheist, or anything else. Unless I believe in God, I cannot believe in thought: so I can never use thought to disbelieve in God. —CS. Lewis

LAUGHTER DOES GOOD LIKE A MEDICINE!
Ol' Fred had been a faithful Christian and was in the hospital,
near death.
The family called their preacher to stand with them.
As the preacher stood next to the bed, Ol' Fred's condition
appeared to deteriorate and he motioned frantically for something
to write on
The pastor lovingly handed him a pen and a piece of paper, and
Ol' Fred used his last bit of energy to scribble a note, then
suddenly died.
The preacher thought it best not to look at the note at that
time, so he placed it in his jacket pocket.
At the funeral, as he was finishing the message, he realized that
he was wearing the same jacket that he was wearing when Ol' Fred
died. He said, "You know, Ol' Fred handed me a note just before
he died. I haven't looked at it, but knowing Fred, I'm sure
there's a word of inspiration there for us all."
He opened the note, and read, "Please step to your left -- you're
standing on my oxygen tube!"
