    Walking By Faith

Colossians 2:6, 7 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith Some Christians believe that walking by faith means being carried along by a mysterious, ethereal, indescribable inner sense called "faith." But the walk of faith is much more practical and definable than that. Walking by faith simply means that you function in daily life on the basis of what you believe. Your belief system determines your behavior. If your behavior is off in a certain area, you need to correct your belief in that area because your misbehavior is the result of your misbelief.* NEIL ANDERSON *(DOYLE PURIFOY) Jesus presses us to walk in the truth: "Why call me Lord, Lord, and do not what I say? Obedience to Jesus Christ is walking by faith-waling in the truth. Every time we sin (disobey Jesus) we deny that Jesus is Lord and exercising our own Lordship.

LAUGHTER DOES GOOD LIKE A MEDICINE! BEAUTIFUL BRIDE

After dating a young lady for some time a young man decides it is time to marry her. He proceeds with all the necessary plans and finally the day comes. On the day of the wedding the young man has yet to pay the pastor for performing the ceremony. However the pastor has a plan. The service proceeds as planned the vows are exchanged etc. Now it is time for the groom to kiss his bride. The pastor sees this as the perfect opportunity to ask to be paid. He pulls the young man aside and asks him. Can you please pay me? Not wanting to create a seen the young man asked. How much do I owe you? The pastor thinks quickly and replies, pay me according to your wife's beauty. The young man discretely pulled out five dollars and gave it to the pastor. Although annoyed by this, the pastor continues the ceremony and says; you may now kiss the bride. At this point the veil is lifted from the brides face to allow the groom to kiss her. As the groom is about to kiss his new bride the pastor interrupts and promptly hand the groom four dollars and fifty cents.

Only one act of pure love, unsullied by any taint of ulterior motive, has ever been performed in the history of the world, namely the self-giving of God in Christ on the cross for undeserving sinners. ONLY TO CHRIST!

The uniqueness to which Christians bear witness does not refer to Christianity in any of its numerous empirical manifestations, but only to Christ. He has no peers, no rivals, no successors. And his uniqueness is most evident in relation to the incarnation, the atonement and the resurrection. He is the one and only God-man, who died for our sins and was then raised from the dead to authenticate his person and work. And it is this threefold, historical uniqueness which qualifies him to be the Saviour of the world, the only mediator between God and humankind. No-one else has these qualifications.

LAUGHTER DOES GOOD LIKE A MEDICINE! COMPUTING!

    * When computing, whatever happens, behave as though you meant it to happen. * When you get to the point where you really understand your computer, it's probably obsolete. * The first place to look for information is in the section of the manual where you least expect to find it. * When the going gets tough, upgrade. * For every action, there is an equal and opposite malfunction. * To err is human . . . To blame your computer for your mistakes is even more human, it is downright natural. * If at first you do not succeed, blame your computer. * A complex system that does not work is invariably found to have evolved from a simpler system that worked perfectly. * The number one cause of computer problems? Computer solutions offered by family members. And if I may add - The best line I have heard when trying to explain to new computer users why something is happening that you don't understand is: "I think you have a problem with the interface between the chair and the keyboard."

    THE UNIQUENESS OF CHRISTIANITY!

If the uniqueness of Christianity is the uniqueness of Christ, wherein does his uniqueness lie? Historically speaking, it is found in his birth, death and resurrection. As for his birth, he was 'conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary', and therefore is both God and man. As for his death, he died for our sins, in our place, to secure our salvation. As for his resurrection, he thereby conquered death and possesses universal authority. Or, to express these historical events theologically, the uniqueness of Jesus lies in the incarnation, the atonement and the exaltation. Each is unparalleled. JOHN STOTT

LAUGHTER DOES GOOD LIKE A MEDICINE!

A tourist in Vienna goes through a graveyard and all of a sudden he hears some music. No one is around, so he starts searching for the source. He finally locates the origin and finds it is coming from a grave with a headstone that reads: "Ludwig van Beethoven, 1770-1827." Then he realizes that the music is the Ninth Symphony, and it is being played backward! Puzzled, he leaves the graveyard and persuades a friend to return with him. By the time they arrive back at the grave, the music has changed. This time it is the Seventh Symphony, but like the previous piece, it is being played backward. Curious, the men agree to consult a music scholar. When they return with the expert, the Fifth Symphony is playing, again backward. The expert notices that the symphonies are being played in the reverse order in which they were composed, the 9th, then the 7th, then the 5th. By the next day the word has spread and a throng has gathered around the grave. They are all listening to the Second Symphony being played backward. Just then the graveyard's caretaker ambles up to the group. Someone in the group asks him if he has an explanation for the music. "Don't you get it?" the caretaker says incredulously. "He's decomposing."

1 Corinthians 5:9-13 (NRSV) 9I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral persons— 10not at all meaning the immoral of this world, or the greedy and robbers, or idolaters, since you would then need to go out of the world. 11But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother or sister who is sexually immoral or greedy, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or robber. Do not even eat with such a one. 12For what have I to do with judging those outside? Is it not those who are inside that you are to judge? 13God will judge those outside. “Drive out the wicked person from among you.” It is clear that Paul wrote a letter to the Corinthians that is not in our Bible because he says in the Book we call First Corinthians “9I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral persons—....” The Holy Spirit led the people of God to recognize and choose the Books that make up our Bible. The only thing we have of this lost letter of Paul is his statement: “9I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral persons—....” However, the Corinthians had misunderstood what he meant in that letter. He had written to them “not to associate with sexually immoral persons—” The Corinthians thought he meant sexually immoral persons in the world. Paul corrected their understanding saying He did “10not at all mean the immoral of this world or the greedy and robbers, or idolaters, since you would then need to go out of the world.” He did not mean to say that we were not to associate with, eat with of have anything to do with sexually immoral persons in the world. How can we win lost people in the world if we shun them--if we have nothing to do with them. Many Christians must overlook this admonition of Paul. Many Christians disobey Paul. They will not do business with anyone they know is sexually immoral. They will not hire anyone in their businesses that they know is sexually immoral. They will not rent to anyone who they know is sexually immoral. They think they represent God while showing such disdain for sinners when in fact God showed His love for them by associating with them and dying on the Cross for them. With this hate that comes from many in the Church, there is no way we can win these lost people to Christ. This is not the way of Christ. LAUGHTER DOES GOOD LIKE A MEDICINE! WALKING THE DOG

A woman was flying from Seattle to San Francisco . Unexpectedly, The plane was diverted to Sacramento along the way. The flight attendant explained that there would be a delay, and if the passengers wanted to get off the aircraft the plane would re-board in 50 minutes.. Everybody got off the plane except one lady Who was blind.. A man had noticed her as he walked by and could tell the lady was blind because her guide dog lay quietly underneath the seats in front of her throughout the entire flight.. He could also tell she had flown this very flight before because the pilot approached her, and calling her by name, said, "Kathy, we are in Sacramento for almost an hour. Would you like to get off and stretch your legs?" The blind lady said, "No thanks, but maybe Buddy Would like to stretch his legs." Picture this: All the people in the gate area came to a complete standstill when they looked up and saw the pilot walk off the plane with a guide dog for the blind! Even worse, the pilot was wearing sunglasses ! People scattered. They not only tried to change planes, But they were trying to change airlines! True story..... Have a great day and remember..... THINGS AREN'T ALWAYS AS THEY APPEAR.

THE MESSAGE OF THE NEW TESTAMENT

The message of the New Testament is first and foremost a declaration. It is good news about God. It is the story of what God has done in and through his Son Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour. He has established his kingdom. True, the full manifestation of the kingdom is yet to come. We await the final consummation. But the kingdom of God has been inaugurated. The time has been fulfilled. The dreams of ancient visionaries have come true. God has kept his promise to Abraham. Long centuries of Old Testament expectation have at last materialized. The new age has dawned. The new covenant has been ratified through the bloodshedding of Jesus. Those who repent of their sins, renounce themselves and believe in Christ hear the covenant promise '... I will be their God, and they shall be my people ... for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more' (Je. 31:33-44) JOHN STOTT

Christian commitment has a *vocational dimension*. That is to say, it includes our life work. To say 'Jesus is Lord' commits us to a lifetime of service. JOHN STOTT Now I Belong To Jesus. I am redeemed, bought with an incalculable price.* *46 "Why do you call me 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I tell you? LAUGHTER DOES GOOD LIKE A MEDICINE! GOLFING NUN

A nun is sitting with her Mother Superior, chatting. "I used some horrible language this week and feel absolutely terrible about it." "When did you use this awful language?" asks the elder. "Well, I was golfing and hit an incredible drive that looked like it was going to go over 280 yards, but it struck a phone line that's hanging over the fairway and fell straight down to the ground after going only about 100 yards." 'Is that when you swore?' "No, Mother," says the nun. "After that a squirrel ran out of the bushes and grabbed my ball in its mouth and began to run away." "Is THAT when you swore?" asks the Mother Superior again. "Well, no." says the nun. "You see, as the squirrel was running, an eagle came down out of the sky, grabbed the squirrel in his talons and began to fly away!" "Is THAT when you swore?" asks the amazed elder nun. "No, not yet. As the eagle carried the squirrel away in its claws, it flew near the green and the squirrel dropped my ball." "Did you swear THEN?" asked Mother Superior, becoming impatient. "No, because the ball fell on a big rock, bounced over the sand trap, rolled onto the green, and stopped about a foot from the hole." The two nuns were silent for a moment. Then Mother Superior sighed and asked, "You missed the putt, didn't you?"

    THOUGHT FOR TODAY!

Just as self-confession can be particularly difficult, self-forgiveness can feel almost impossible. But we must. Lewis concludes: “If God forgives us we must forgive ourselves. Otherwise it is almost like setting up ourselves as a higher tribunal than Him.”* C. S. Lewis quoted in eEpistle. *9If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 (NRSV)
