          Just a simple place for me to put a scripture or two. My plan is to have one here a week or so. I was trying to do one a day, but think I need to go slower. Maybe I'll comment, maybe you will...

          Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ. (1 Corinthians 11:1)

          Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. (Acts 17:11)

          Test everything. Hold on to the good. (1 Thessalonians 5:21)

          Examine what I say, challenge me if I seem wrong, rebuke me if I am way off the mark...

    Revelation 21:3-4 (NIV)

    3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."

    James 2:1-5 (NIV)

     1My brothers, as believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, don't show favoritism. 2Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in shabby clothes also comes in. 3If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, "Here's a good seat for you," but say to the poor man, "You stand there" or "Sit on the floor by my feet," 4have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?

     5Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?

    Revelation 20:11-15 (NIV)

     11Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. 14Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

    Psalm 51 (NIV)

    For the director of music. A psalm of David. When the prophet Nathan came to him after David had committed adultery with Bathsheba.

     1 Have mercy on me, O God,
           according to your unfailing love;
           according to your great compassion
           blot out my transgressions.

     2 Wash away all my iniquity
           and cleanse me from my sin.

     3 For I know my transgressions,
           and my sin is always before me.

     4 Against you, you only, have I sinned
           and done what is evil in your sight,
           so that you are proved right when you speak
           and justified when you judge.

     5 Surely I was sinful at birth,
           sinful from the time my mother conceived me.

     6 Surely you desire truth in the inner parts;
           you teach me wisdom in the inmost place.

     7 Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean;
           wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.

     8 Let me hear joy and gladness;
           let the bones you have crushed rejoice.

     9 Hide your face from my sins
           and blot out all my iniquity.

     10 Create in me a pure heart, O God,
           and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

     11 Do not cast me from your presence
           or take your Holy Spirit from me.

     12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation
           and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

     13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways,
           and sinners will turn back to you.

     14 Save me from bloodguilt, O God,
           the God who saves me,
           and my tongue will sing of your righteousness.

     15 O Lord, open my lips,
           and my mouth will declare your praise.

     16 You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it;
           you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.

     17 My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit;
           a broken and contrite heart,
           O God, you will not despise.

     18 In your good pleasure make Zion prosper;
           build up the walls of
    Jerusalem.

     19 Then there will be righteous sacrifices,
           whole burnt offerings to delight you;
           then bulls will be offered on your altar.

    Revelation 20:7-10 (NIV)

     7When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison 8and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth—Gog and Magog—to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore. 9They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God's people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them. 10And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

    Promises (good and not so good)

    Romans 10:11-13 (NIV)

    11As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." 12For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

    Isaiah 28:10-19 (NIV)

     10 For it is:
           Do and do, do and do,
           rule on rule, rule on rule;
           a little here, a little there."

     11 Very well then, with foreign lips and strange tongues
           God will speak to this people,

     12 to whom he said,
           "This is the resting place, let the weary rest";
           and, "This is the place of repose"—
           but they would not listen.

     13 So then, the word of the LORD to them will become:
           Do and do, do and do,
           rule on rule, rule on rule;
           a little here, a little there—
           so that they will go and fall backward,
           be injured and snared and captured.

     14 Therefore hear the word of the LORD, you scoffers
           who rule this people in
    Jerusalem.

     15 You boast, "We have entered into a covenant with death,
           with the grave [Sheol] we have made an agreement.
           When an overwhelming scourge sweeps by,
           it cannot touch us,
           for we have made a lie our refuge
           and falsehood [false gods]our hiding place."

     16 So this is what the Sovereign LORD says:
           "See, I lay a stone in Zion,
           a tested stone,
           a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation;
           the one who trusts will never be dismayed.

     17 I will make justice the measuring line
           and righteousness the plumb line;
           hail will sweep away your refuge, the lie,
           and water will overflow your hiding place.

     18 Your covenant with death will be annulled;
           your agreement with the grave [Sheol] will not stand.
           When the overwhelming scourge sweeps by,
           you will be beaten down by it.

     19 As often as it comes it will carry you away;
           morning after morning, by day and by night,
           it will sweep through."
           The understanding of this message
           will bring sheer terror.

    Joel 2:28-40 (NIV)

     28 "And afterward,
           I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
           Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
           your old men will dream dreams,
           your young men will see visions.

     29 Even on my servants, both men and women,
           I will pour out my Spirit in those days.

     30 I will show wonders in the heavens
           and on the earth,
           blood and fire and billows of smoke.

     31 The sun will be turned to darkness
           and the moon to blood
           before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD.

     32 And everyone who calls
           on the name of the LORD will be saved;
           for on
    Mount Zion and in Jerusalem
           there will be deliverance,
           as the LORD has said,
           among the survivors
           whom the LORD calls.

After that, he must be set free for a short time.

          so that you will not receive any of her plagues;

     5for her sins are piled up to heaven,
          and God has remembered her crimes.

    6Give back to her as she has given;
          pay her back double for what she has done.
          Mix her a double portion from her own cup.

    7Give her as much torture and grief
          as the glory and luxury she gave herself.
       In her heart she boasts,
          'I sit as queen; I am not a widow,

    The Weekly Promise(s) and more!

    2 Corinthians 11:1-4 (NIV)

     1I hope you will put up with a little of my foolishness; but you are already doing that. 2I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him. 3But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. 4For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough.

    Hebrews 13:1-9 (NIV)

     1Keep on loving each other as brothers. 2Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it. 3Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.

     4Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. 5Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,
       "
    Never will I leave you;
          never will I forsake you.
    " 6
    So we say with confidence,
       "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.
          What can man do to me? "

     7Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. 8Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

     9Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings. It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace, not by ceremonial foods, which are of no value to those who eat them.

    Isaiah 6:7 (and a bit more) For Saturday

    Isaiah 6:1-10 (NAS)

     1In the year of King Uzziah's death I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple.

     2Seraphim stood above Him, each having six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.

     3And one called out to another and said,
             "Holy, Holy, Holy, is the LORD of hosts,
             The whole earth is full of His glory."

     4And the foundations of the thresholds trembled at the voice of him who called out, while the temple was filling with smoke.

     5Then I said,
             "Woe is me, for I am ruined!
             Because I am a man of unclean lips,
             And I live among a people of unclean lips;
             For my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts."

     6Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a burning coal in his hand, which he had taken from the altar with tongs.

     7He touched my mouth with it and said, "Behold, this has touched your lips; and your iniquity is taken away and your sin is forgiven."

     8Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?" Then I said, "Here am I. Send me!"

     9He said, "Go, and tell this people:
             'Keep on listening, but do not perceive;
             Keep on looking, but do not understand.'
        10"Render the hearts of this people insensitive,
             Their ears dull,
             And their eyes dim,
             Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
             Hear with their ears,
             Understand with their hearts,
             And return and be healed."

    Luke 8:10 (NIV)

    10He said, "The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but to others I speak in parables, so that,
       " 'though seeing, they may not see;
          though hearing, they may not understand.'

    Revelation 15 and related verses

    Revelation 15 (Amplified Bible)

     1THEN I saw another wonder (sign, token, symbol) in heaven, great and marvelous [warning of events of ominous significance]: There were seven angels bringing seven plagues (afflictions, calamities), which are the last, for with them God's wrath (indignation) is completely expressed [reaches its climax and is ended].

        2Then I saw what seemed to be a glassy sea blended with fire, and those who had come off victorious from the beast and from his statue and from the number corresponding to his name were standing beside the glassy sea, with harps of God in their hands.

        3And they sang the song of Moses the servant of God and the song of the Lamb, saying, Mighty and marvelous are Your works, O Lord God the Omnipotent! Righteous (just) and true are Your ways, O Sovereign of the ages (King of the nations)!

        4Who shall not reverence and glorify Your name, O Lord [giving You honor and praise in worship]? For You only are holy. All the nations shall come and pay homage and adoration to You, for Your just judgments (Your righteous sentences and deeds) have been made known and displayed.

        5After this I looked and the sanctuary of the tent of the testimony in heaven was thrown open,

        6And there came out of the temple sanctuary the seven angels bringing the seven plagues (afflictions, calamities). They were arrayed in pure gleaming linen, and around their breasts they wore golden girdles.

        7And one of the four living creatures [then] gave the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the wrath and indignation of God, Who lives forever and ever (in the eternities of the eternities).

        8And the sanctuary was filled with smoke from the glory (the radiance, the splendor) of God and from His might and power, and no one was able to go into the sanctuary until the seven plagues (afflictions, calamities) of the seven angels were ended.

    Leviticus 26:21-45 (New International Version)

     21 " 'If you remain hostile toward me and refuse to listen to me, I will multiply your afflictions seven times over, as your sins deserve. 22 I will send wild animals against you, and they will rob you of your children, destroy your cattle and make you so few in number that your roads will be deserted.

     23 " 'If in spite of these things you do not accept my correction but continue to be hostile toward me, 24 I myself will be hostile toward you and will afflict you for your sins seven times over. 25 And I will bring the sword upon you to avenge the breaking of the covenant. When you withdraw into your cities, I will send a plague among you, and you will be given into enemy hands. 26 When I cut off your supply of bread, ten women will be able to bake your bread in one oven, and they will dole out the bread by weight. You will eat, but you will not be satisfied.

     27 " 'If in spite of this you still do not listen to me but continue to be hostile toward me, 28 then in my anger I will be hostile toward you, and I myself will punish you for your sins seven times over. 29 You will eat the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters. 30 I will destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars and pile your dead bodies on the lifeless forms of your idols, and I will abhor you. 31 I will turn your cities into ruins and lay waste your sanctuaries, and I will take no delight in the pleasing aroma of your offerings. 32 I will lay waste the land, so that your enemies who live there will be appalled. 33 I will scatter you among the nations and will draw out my sword and pursue you. Your land will be laid waste, and your cities will lie in ruins. 34 Then the land will enjoy its sabbath years all the time that it lies desolate and you are in the country of your enemies; then the land will rest and enjoy its sabbaths. 35 All the time that it lies desolate, the land will have the rest it did not have during the sabbaths you lived in it.

     36 " 'As for those of you who are left, I will make their hearts so fearful in the lands of their enemies that the sound of a windblown leaf will put them to flight. They will run as though fleeing from the sword, and they will fall, even though no one is pursuing them. 37 They will stumble over one another as though fleeing from the sword, even though no one is pursuing them. So you will not be able to stand before your enemies. 38 You will perish among the nations; the land of your enemies will devour you. 39 Those of you who are left will waste away in the lands of their enemies because of their sins; also because of their fathers' sins they will waste away.

     40 " 'But if they will confess their sins and the sins of their fathers—their treachery against me and their hostility toward me, 41 which made me hostile toward them so that I sent them into the land of their enemies—then when their uncircumcised hearts are humbled and they pay for their sin, 42 I will remember my covenant with Jacob and my covenant with Isaac and my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land. 43 For the land will be deserted by them and will enjoy its sabbaths while it lies desolate without them. They will pay for their sins because they rejected my laws and abhorred my decrees. 44 Yet in spite of this, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them or abhor them so as to destroy them completely, breaking my covenant with them. I am the LORD their God. 45 But for their sake I will remember the covenant with their ancestors whom I brought out of Egypt in the sight of the nations to be their God. I am the LORD.' "

    Exodus 15:1 (NIV)

     1 Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the LORD :
           "I will sing to the LORD,
           for he is highly exalted.
           The horse and its rider
           he has hurled into the sea.

    Psalm 145:17 (NIV)

     17 The LORD is righteous in all his ways
           and loving toward all he has made.

    Psalm 86:9 (NIV)

     9 All the nations you have made
           will come and worship before you, O Lord;
           they will bring glory to your name.

    Jeremiah 10:7 (NIV)

     7 Who should not revere you,
           O King of the nations?
           This is your due.
           Among all the wise men of the nations
           and in all their kingdoms,
           there is no one like you.

    1 Kings 8:10-11 (Amplified Bible)

    10When the priests had come out of the Holy Place, the cloud filled the Lord's house,

        11So the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord had filled the Lord's house.

    Ezekiel 44:1-9 (NIV)

     1 Then the man brought me back to the outer gate of the sanctuary, the one facing east, and it was shut. 2 The LORD said to me, "This gate is to remain shut. It must not be opened; no one may enter through it. It is to remain shut because the LORD, the God of Israel, has entered through it. 3 The prince himself is the only one who may sit inside the gateway to eat in the presence of the LORD. He is to enter by way of the portico of the gateway and go out the same way."

     4 Then the man brought me by way of the north gate to the front of the temple. I looked and saw the glory of the LORD filling the temple of the LORD, and I fell facedown.

     5 The LORD said to me, "Son of man, look carefully, listen closely and give attention to everything I tell you concerning all the regulations regarding the temple of the LORD. Give attention to the entrance of the temple and all the exits of the sanctuary. 6 Say to the rebellious house of Israel, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Enough of your detestable practices, O house of Israel! 7 In addition to all your other detestable practices, you brought foreigners uncircumcised in heart and flesh into my sanctuary, desecrating my temple while you offered me food, fat and blood, and you broke my covenant. 8 Instead of carrying out your duty in regard to my holy things, you put others in charge of my sanctuary. 9 This is what the Sovereign LORD says: No foreigner uncircumcised in heart and flesh is to enter my sanctuary, not even the foreigners who live among the Israelites.

    Job 36:22-33 (NIV)

     22 "God is exalted in his power.
           Who is a teacher like him?

     23 Who has prescribed his ways for him,
           or said to him, 'You have done wrong'?

     24 Remember to extol his work,
           which men have praised in song.

     25 All mankind has seen it;
           men gaze on it from afar.

     26 How great is God—beyond our understanding!
           The number of his years is past finding out.

     27 "He draws up the drops of water,
           which distill as rain to the streams;

     28 the clouds pour down their moisture
           and abundant showers fall on mankind.

     29 Who can understand how he spreads out the clouds,
           how he thunders from his pavilion?

     30 See how he scatters his lightning about him,
           bathing the depths of the sea.

     31 This is the way he governs the nations
           and provides food in abundance.

     32 He fills his hands with lightning
           and commands it to strike its mark.

     33 His thunder announces the coming storm;
           even the cattle make known its approach.

    Revelation 15:1 (NIV) For Friday

     1I saw in heaven another great and marvelous sign: seven angels with the seven last plagues—last, because with them God's wrath is completed.

    Revelation 14:17-20 (NIV) For Yesterday

     17Another angel came out of the temple in heaven, and he too had a sharp sickle. 18Still another angel, who had charge of the fire, came from the altar and called in a loud voice to him who had the sharp sickle, "Take your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of grapes from the earth's vine, because its grapes are ripe." 19The angel swung his sickle on the earth, gathered its grapes and threw them into the great winepress of God's wrath. 20They were trampled in the winepress outside the city, and blood flowed out of the press, rising as high as the horses' bridles for a distance of 1,600 stadia.

    Daniel 7:13-16 (Amplified Bible)

    13I saw in the night visions, and behold, on the clouds of the heavens came One like a Son of man, and He came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before Him.

        14And there was given Him [the Messiah] dominion and glory and kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion which shall not pass away, and His kingdom is one which shall not be destroyed.

        15As for me, Daniel, my spirit was grieved and anxious within me, and the visions of my head alarmed and agitated me.

        16I came near to one of those who stood there and asked him the truth of all this. So he told me and made known to me the interpretation of the things.

    A few for Sunday's Thoughts

    Luke 18:11 (NAS)

     11"The Pharisee stood and was praying this to himself: 'God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.

    Matthew 6:5 (NIV)

     5"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.

    Mark 11:25 (Amplified Bible)

    25And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him and let it drop (leave it, let it go), in order that your Father Who is in heaven may also forgive you your [own] failings and shortcomings and let them drop.

    Luke 22:41 (NIV)

    41He withdrew about a stone's throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed,

    Matthew 6:6 (Amplified Bible)

    6But when you pray, go into your [most] private room, and, closing the door, pray to your Father, Who is in secret; and your Father, Who sees in secret, will reward you in the open.

    Isaiah 56:7 (NIV)

     7 these I will bring to my holy mountain
           and give them joy in my house of prayer.
           Their burnt offerings and sacrifices
           will be accepted on my altar;
           for my house will be called
           a house of prayer for all nations."

    Hebrews 4:16 (NAS)

     16Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

    Matthew 5:23-24 (Amplified Bible)

    23So if when you are offering your gift at the altar you there remember that your brother has any [grievance] against you,

        24Leave your gift at the altar and go. First make peace with your brother, and then come back and present your gift.

    Luke 22:19 (NIV)

     19And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me."

    1 John 3:14-16 (Amplified Bible)

    14We know that we have passed over out of death into Life by the fact that we love the brethren (our fellow Christians). He who does not love abides (remains, is held and kept continually) in [spiritual] death.

        15Anyone who hates (abominates, detests) his brother [in Christ] is [at heart] a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding (persevering) within him.

        16By this we come to know (progressively to recognize, to perceive, to understand) the [essential] love: that He laid down His [own] life for us; and we ought to lay [our] lives down for [those who are our] brothers [in Him].

    Romans 12:1 (Amplified Bible)

     1I APPEAL to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all] the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your members and faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship.

    Jude 7 (Amplified Bible & NAS)

    (Amplified Bible)

    7[The wicked are sentenced to suffer] just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the adjacent towns--which likewise gave themselves over to impurity and indulged in unnatural vice and sensual perversity--are laid out [in plain sight] as an exhibit of perpetual punishment [to warn] of everlasting fire.

    (NAS)

     7just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them, since they in the same way as these indulged in gross immorality and went after strange flesh, are exhibited as an example in undergoing the punishment of eternal fire.

    Revelation 14:9-10 (Amplified Bible) For Saturday

    9Then another angel, a third, followed them, saying with a mighty voice, Whoever pays homage to the beast and his statue and permits the [beast's] stamp (mark, inscription) to be put on his forehead or on his hand,

        10He too shall [have to] drink of the wine of God's indignation and wrath, poured undiluted into the cup of His anger; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb.

    Revelation 14:6-7 (Amplified Bible) For Friday

    6Then I saw another angel flying in midair, with an eternal Gospel (good news) to tell to the inhabitants of the earth, to every race and tribe and language and people.

        7And he cried with a mighty voice, Revere God and give Him glory (honor and praise in worship), for the hour of His judgment has arrived. Fall down before Him; pay Him homage and adoration and worship Him Who created heaven and earth, the sea and the springs (fountains) of water.
