          Just a simple place for me to put a scripture or two. My plan is to have one here a week or so. I was trying to do one a day, but think I need to go slower. Maybe I'll comment, maybe you will...

          Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ. (1 Corinthians 11:1)

          Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. (Acts 17:11)

          Test everything. Hold on to the good. (1 Thessalonians 5:21)

          Examine what I say, challenge me if I seem wrong, rebuke me if I am way off the mark...

    2 Corinthians 3:4-6 (Echoing off Jon's Post)

    AMP

        4Such is the reliance and confidence that we have through Christ toward and with reference to God.

        5Not that we are fit (qualified and sufficient in ability) of ourselves to form personal judgments or to claim or count anything as coming from us, but our power and ability and sufficiency are from God.

        6[It is He] Who has qualified us [making us to be fit and worthy and sufficient] as ministers and dispensers of a new covenant [of salvation through Christ], not [ministers] of the letter (of legally written code) but of the Spirit; for the code [of the Law] kills, but the [Holy] Spirit makes alive.

    NIV

     4Such confidence as this is ours through Christ before God. 5Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. 6He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life

    NAS

     4Such confidence we have through Christ toward God.

     5Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God,

     6who also made us adequate as servants of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

    NLT

     4 We are confident of all this because of our great trust in God through Christ. 5 It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God. 6 He has enabled us to be ministers of his new covenant. This is a covenant not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old written covenant ends in death; but under the new covenant, the Spirit gives life.

    Levande Bibeln

    Isaiah 1:25-31 (Echoing off of Lee's Post)

    AMP

         25And I will bring My hand again upon you and thoroughly purge away your dross [as with lye] and take away all your tin or alloy.

        26And I will restore your judges as at the first, and your counselors as at the beginning; afterward you shall be called the City of Righteousness, the Faithful City.

        27Zion shall be redeemed with justice, and her [returned] converts with righteousness (uprightness and right standing with God).

        28But the crushing and destruction of rebels and sinners shall be together, and they who forsake the Lord shall be consumed.

        29For you will be ashamed [of the folly and degradation] of the oak or terebinth trees in which you found [idolatrous] pleasure, and you will blush with shame for the [idolatrous worship which you practice in the passion-inflaming] gardens which you have chosen.

        30For you shall be like an oak or terebinth whose leaf withers, and like a garden that has no water.

        31And the strong shall become like tow and become tinder, and his work like a spark, and they shall both burn together, with none to quench them.

    NIV

     25 I will turn my hand against you;
           I will thoroughly purge away your dross
           and remove all your impurities.

     26 I will restore your judges as in days of old,
           your counselors as at the beginning.
           Afterward you will be called
           the City of Righteousness,
           the Faithful City."

     27 Zion will be redeemed with justice,
           her penitent ones with righteousness.

     28 But rebels and sinners will both be broken,
           and those who forsake the LORD will perish.

     29 "You will be ashamed because of the sacred oaks
           in which you have delighted;
           you will be disgraced because of the gardens
           that you have chosen.

     30 You will be like an oak with fading leaves,
           like a garden without water.

     31 The mighty man will become tinder
           and his work a spark;
           both will burn together,
           with no one to quench the fire."

    NAS

        25"I will also turn My hand against you,
             And will smelt away your dross as with lye
             And will remove all your alloy.
        26"Then I will restore your judges as at the first,
             And your counselors as at the beginning;
             After that you will be called the city of righteousness,
             A faithful city."
        27Zion will beredeemed with justice
             And her repentant ones with righteousness.
        28But transgressors and sinners will be crushed together,
             And those who forsake the LORD will come to an end.
        29Surely you will be ashamed of the oaks which you have desired,
             And you will be embarrassed at the gardens which you have chosen.
        30For you will be like an oak whose leaf fades away
             Or as a garden that has no water.
        31The strong man will become tinder,
             His work also a spark.
             Thus they shall both burn together
             And there will be none to quench them.

    NLT

     25 I will raise my fist against you.
          I will melt you down and skim off your slag.
          I will remove all your impurities.
     26 Then I will give you good judges again
          and wise counselors like you used to have.
       Then Jerusalem will again be called the Home of Justice
          and the Faithful City.”

     27 Zion will be restored by justice;
          those who repent will be revived by righteousness.
     28 But rebels and sinners will be completely destroyed,
          and those who desert the Lord will be consumed.

     29 You will be ashamed of your idol worship
          in groves of sacred oaks.
       You will blush because you worshiped
          in gardens dedicated to idols.
     30 You will be like a great tree with withered leaves,
          like a garden without water.
     31 The strongest among you will disappear like straw;
          their evil deeds will be the spark that sets it on fire.
       They and their evil works will burn up together,
          and no one will be able to put out the fire.

    Det Norsk Bibelselskap 1930

     25Og jeg vil igjen ta mig av dig og smelte ut dine slagger som med lutsalt og skille ut alt ditt bly.

     26Og jeg vil atter gi dig slike dommere som i førstningen og rådsherrer som i begynnelsen; derefter skal du kalles rettferdighetens stad, en trofast by.

     27Sion skal forløses ved rett, og de omvendte der ved rettferdighet.

     28Men undergang skal ramme alle overtredere og syndere, og de som forlater Herren, skal omkomme;

     29for de skal få skam av de eketrær som er eders lyst, og I skal bli til skamme ved de haver som I har så kjær;

     30for I skal bli som en ek med visne blad og som en have uten vann.

     31Og den sterke skal bli til stry, og hans gjerning til en gnist, og de skal brenne begge tilsammen, og der er ingen som slukker.
