BIBLE STUDY - KNOW YOUR BIBLE

Psalm 11 – A psalm of David God loves justice. The righteous will see his face.

The Lord examines the righteous, but the wicked and those who love violence his soul hates.

On the wicked he will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind will be their lot.

For the Lord is righteous, he loves justice; upright men will see his face.

Please read Revelation 21: 1-8

God has a plan for your life. Surrender your life to him and trust him fully. God will accomplish his plan for your life. Psalm 10 – The Lord is King for ever and ever.

But you, O God, do see trouble and grief; you consider it to take it in hand. The victim commits himself to you; you are the helper of the fatherless.

Break the arm of the wicked and evil man; call him to account for his wickedness that would not be found out.

The Lord is King for ever and ever; the nations will perish from his land.

You hear, O Lord, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry, defending the fatherless and the oppressed, in order that man, who is of the earth, may terrify no more.

Psalm 9 – A psalm of David - God will judge the world in righteousness. He is a refuge for the oppressed.

I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of your wonders. I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.

You have rebuked the nations and destroyed the wicked; you have blotted out their name for ever and ever.

The Lord reigns forever; he has established his throne for judgment. He will judge the world in righteousness; he will govern the peoples with justice. The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.

Why did King David flee from his son Absalom?

King David wrote Psalm 3 when he fled from his son Absalom. Why did he flee?

After Absalom killed his stepbrother Amnon he fled Jerusalem and went to Geshur. After staying there for three years he got his father’s permission to return to Jerusalem.

Absalom sought the favor of the people and received it. He sent secret messengers throughout the tribes of Israel to say, ‘ As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpets, then say, ‘Absalom is king in Hebron’ (2 Samuel 15: 10).

A messenger informed David that the hearts of the men of Israel are with his son Absalom. So David said to his officials that they should flee or none of them will escape from Absalom. As a result the king set out with his household but he left ten concubines to take care of the palace.

Read the story in 2 Samuel, chapter sixteen.

Who is the Lord’s anointed as recorded in Psalm 2?

In Psalm 2 we read, The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the Lord and against his anointed One (v. 2).

The Lord’s anointed could be any one on whom the Lord bestows his grace for a special assignment, as he did on King Cyrus. We read, This is what the Lord says to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I take hold of to subdue nations before him and to strip kings of their armor, to open doors before him so that gates will not be shut (Isa. 45: 1).

But in Psalm 2 the Lord’s anointed refers to Jesus. We gather this information from the following verses. ‘I have installed my King on Zion, my holy hill.’ I will proclaim the decree of the Lord: He said to me, ‘You are my Son; today I have become your father. Ask of me , and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession. You will rule them with an iron scepter; you will dash them to pieces like pottery (vss. 6-9).

BIBLE STUDY - KNOW YOUR BIBLE

What is meant by: Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment (Psalm 1: 5).

We are informed in Scripture that when Jesus appears in blazing fire with his powerful angels he will punish all unbelievers with everlasting destruction.

We read, God is just : He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels. He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the majesty of his power on the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you (2 Thess. 1: 6-10).

PSALM ONE

A righteous man is likened to a tree. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers (v. 3).
A wicked man is likened to chaff. Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away (v. 4).
God has a plan for your life. Surrender your life to him and trust him fully. God will accomplish his plan for your life. If you are not a born again believer, receive Jesus and become a child of God (John 1: 12; Rom. 10: 9-10). Jesus is the only way to heaven. He said, I am the way and the truth and the life. What was Job’s final statement about God?

After God confronted Job with a series of questions, he concluded that God had no equal. God was omnipotent.

I know that you can do all things; no plan of yours can be thwarted. You asked, ‘Who is this that obscures my counsel without knowledge?’ Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know (Job 42: 2-3).

GOD BLESSED JOB

God was pleased with Job because of his truthfulness and he was angry with the friends of Job because they had not spoken of him what is right.

As a result, God commanded the three friends of Job to sacrifice a burnt offering. So now take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and sacrifice a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to your folly. You have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has (Job 42: 8).

Eliphaz, Bildad and Zophar did what God commanded them to do and God accepted Job’s prayer.

After Job prayed for his friends, God blessed him. He became prosperous again. God gave him twice as much as he had before. God also gave him seven sons and three daughters, the same number of children that he had before.

What was Job confident of?

1) Job was confident that his Redeemer lives.

I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth (Job 19: 25).

2) Job was confident of his resurrection.

And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; I myself will see him with my own eyes—I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me (Job 19: 26-27).

3) Job was confident that God is omnipotent.

I know that you can do all things; no plan of yours can be thwarted (Job 42: 2).

What end-time doctrine do we find in the book of Job?

… so man lies down and does not rise; till the heavens are no more, men will not awake or be roused from their sleep (Job 14: 12). (See 2 Peter 3: 3-13).

The resurrection of the dead will take place at the end of the age when God creates a new heaven and a new.

The above Scripture plus the following Scriptures prove that the doctrine of more than one future resurrection (the doctrine of premillennialists) is unscriptural (Dan. 12: 2; John 5: 28-29; Acts 24: 15).

WHAT HAPPENED WHEN JOB’S FRIENDS ARRIVED?

When the friends of Job heard about the trouble that he was having three of them Eliphaz, Bildad and Zophar got together and went to sympathize and comfort him.

When they saw him from a distance they hardly recognized him. They wept aloud, tore their robes and sprinkled dust on their heads.

When they got to him, they sat on the ground with him for seven days and seven nights. They did not speak a word to him because of his great suffering.

After the seven days and night Job’s frustration caused him to speak. He cursed the day of his birth. He said, May the day of my birth perish, and the night it was said, ‘A boy is born!’ That day—may it turn to darkness; may God above not care about it; may no light shine upon it. May darkness and deep shadow claim it once more; may a cloud settle over it; may blackness overwhelm its light. That night—may thick darkness seize it; may it not be included among the days of the year nor be entered in any of the months. May that night be barren; may no shout of joy be heard in it. May those who curse days curse that day, those who are ready to rouse Leviathan. May its morning stars become dark; may it wait for daylight in vain and not see the first rays of dawn, for it did not shut the doors of the womb on me to hide trouble from my eyes. ‘Why did I not perish at birth, and die as I came from the womb (Job 3: 11)?
