Why dogs don't live longer than people
Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year- old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The d! og's owners, Ron, his wife, Lisa, and their little boy, Shane, were all very attached to Belker and they were hoping for a miracle.
I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family there were no miracles left for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home. As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for the four-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.
The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away. The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or conf! usion.
We sat together for a while after Belker's death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, "I know why."
Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation.
He said, "People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?" The four-year-old continued, "Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long."

Are you thirsty?
Our pastor is doing a sermon series he wrote called "Refreshing Faith". This morning he was talking about thirst, and how, according to Gatorade research, you actually become dehydrated before you become thirsty. They said you have to loose 2% of your body fluids before you become thirsty.
Hmmmmm. That means that most of us are walking around dehydrated, and don't know it.
I wonder how much spiritual dehydration has to occour before we get spiritually thirsty? Is one "drink" a week enough? Would one "drink" of water a week be enough? How much more important is our eternal spirit than our body that gets thirsty? Shouldn't we be drinking regularly of the Holy Spirit which God gives freely!!!!
Rev 21:6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
Rev 22:1 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
Rev 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

I Meant To Go Back (The 9 Lepers)
By Smokey the dog 01/12/05
Luke 17:11-17 ¶ And it came about while He was on the way to Jerusalem, that He was passing between Samaria and Galilee. 12 And as He entered a certain village, ten leprous men who stood at a distance met Him; 13 and they raised their voices, saying, "Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!" 14And when He saw them, He said to them, "Go and show yourselves to the priests." And it came about that as they were going, they were cleansed. 15 Now one of them, when he saw that he had been healed, turned back, glorifying God with a loud voice, 16 and he fell on his face at His feet, giving thanks to Him. And he was a Samaritan. 17 And Jesus answered and said, "Were there not ten cleansed? But the nine-- where are they?
“I meant to go back, I really did!” The first one said. “First one thing, then another, just drove it out of my head.” The second one said. “It was all so surreal, first I was leprous, and then I was healed!” The third one chimed in, “I visited the priests, like Moses told us to do. What more do you want, What more should I do???” Number four groused. “Trips to take, jobs to find, everything, just everything drove it right out of my mind!” Number five cried out, “You can’t blame us, none of us even had the fare for a bus.” Number six said, “Family to greet, meetings to attend, lectures to give. Fame you know, will it never end?” Number seven said, “I used to live far away, just making it there took forever and a day.” Number eight raised an eyebrow, “Go back and be thankful? Come on, get real! I’m going to finally get a home cooked meal!” Number nine hung his head and mumbled “I just forgot.” Number ten we know, was grateful indeed! He gave thanks to Jesus unlike Abraham’s seed. What I want to know is how will You be? Will you be like lepers 1 through 9 or like number 10?

My first for the new year 2006
Greetings and belated welcome to 2006. The holidays passed too quickly, and I had little time to enjoy them, what with work, christmas programs, general business and and illness. I had to work over christmas eve, then I came down with the cold that was going around the department. So I missed the christmas gatherings with family. Of course my wife comes down with the same thing over new years, so we just stayed home and sniffled at one another.
Anyway we both had the first week of the new year off, planning to do work around the house, but we were both recovering from our colds, and not too much got done. We did go see The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe though, which was fun. My wife said she just wanted to run her fingers through Aslan's fur.
Needless to say I have not felt very inspired to write anything so far this year.
