    cancelled upon arrival

Tonight I was listening to the radio traffic at work as I allways do. A couple officers were dispatched to respond to one of the inpatient units for a possible restraint situation. Upon arrival one of the officers called dispatch and said "Call cancelled upon arrival". I was thinking "Gee that would be a nice way to end all my calls."

Then I got to thinking, When I call to God in prayer, Jesus responds, and when Jesus arrives, the call is really cancelled!

    Anticipation

This morniing I looked down at my watch, wondering how much longer it was till I could go home. I had about 45 minutes left. The time could not go fast enough.

Then a thought entered my head...

Am I as excited about leaving for my eternal home as I am about going home after work?

    Of course not.

    Why is that I wonder?

    Is not God good?

Has he not promised to make a place for us?

    So what is the problem?

Could it be we are not familiar enough with our future home to make us long for it?

When I want to go home at the end of the day, I anxiously wait, wanting to go home and take a load off my feet and relax, and rest. I hope when the time comes for me to "punch out" on the earthly clock I will welcome it like I welcome getting off work.

    Blind Spots

I was driving through a parking lot the other night in my patrol vehicle. All of a sudden there was this loud scraping sound coming from the driver's side. I said out loud "What the heck is that!" and stopped the car. I went to get out and the driver's side door would not open more than a couple inches. I thought "This is not good!" I scrambled out the passenger's side door and took a look. There on the ground was a handicapped parking sign. I thought to myself, "How did I miss seeing that sign?" Then I realized it must have been in my blind spot when I made the turn, and I it wasn't lit by my headlights because it was not directly ahead. I spent the next couple hours taking photos of the damaged vehicle, and the sign and writing the property damage report.

I got to thinking about blind spots. There are plenty of them when we drive. The rear view mirror can block your virw forward. The pillars holding the windshield block the view to the sides (as in my case). The headrest can block the view to the rear, and others too numerous to mention.

Are there spiritual blind spots too? I believe so. Jesus said in Luke 6:41 "Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?"

So my question is, what's your blind spot? What's my blind spot? I sure don't know But I know who does! Jesus gave sight to the man born blind, He certainly will heal us of our spiritual blind spots if we ask Him!

    Are You Listening?

Our church has created a 120 day devotional by some of the church members and staff. It's part of the preperation during our "Plans to prosper" emphasis.

One of the readings reminded me of the statement "It's hard to steer a parked car." I thought about it in context of the devotional, and I added this. It's hard to hear directions when you have the window rolled up and the music blasting.

So many times we have the windows rolled up and the music blasting and we can't hear God's still small voice.
