    what AWANA is

    Ok, for those who don't know what AWANA is this is from wikipedia;

Awana (an acronym for Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed as taken from 2 Timothy 2:15 , King James Version), is an international, Bible-centered youth ministry headquartered in Streamwood, Illinois. AWANA provides local churches with weekly clubs, programs and training for students in preschool through high school. Its goal is to enable churches to reach out to children and teenagers in their communities, and their families, with the gospel of Jesus
    .

2Ti 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Why Thomas wasn't at the meeting

Jhn 20:24 ¶ But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.

I was talking with a couple of men in our church Sunday morning, and they were discussing the inability of one to make a meeting. One said any time you get a group together, someone isn't going to make it. I replied "even the disciples couldn't all make it to the same meeting." I referred them to the verse above where Thomas wasn't there in the upper room when Jesus first appeared to them. The other one said "Yea, his kids probably had AWANA, and that's why he wasn't there."

I thought about it for a moment and burst out laughing.
Maybe it's a baptist thing, but I thought it was funny.

    Barton Dam

This past thusrday it snowed overnight. You know, the wet spring snow that sticks to the branches so well. I went out and drove around and took some photos. I finally stopped at Barton park, and walked down to the dam. The recent spring thaw had the spillways roaring with water and spray.

    Barton Dam

I thought that if the dam would give way the water would rush out with so much power, even the overflow in the spillways was amazing! I thought that that's the way it is with God. Even the overflow over the dam is powerful! And what is the dam in our lives that keeps God's power in check? It's nothing but the feather of our will.

    IDIOTS

Act 4:13 ¶ Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

    ignorant - [strongs #2399] idiotes
in the NT, an unlearned, illiterate, man as opposed to the learned and educated: one who is unskilled in any art.

I was struck by this passage which was mentioned in Sunday's sermon. The thing that struck me was the word defined above, "ignorant". The greek is so like the english work idiot. The officials marveled, the only thing different from the average "idiot" was that THEY HAD BEEN WITH JESUS.

So if "idiots" who had been with Jesus could turn the world upside down, what's your excuse?

    Not My Home Any More

As I was driving in to work I passed by the turnoff to where I grew up. All I had to do was make a left, go past the water tower and the park, and cut across the school grounds and I would be in my back yard. Execpt itwasn't my back yard anymore. My dad had sold the house I grew up in this past summer. In fact it had not been "my house" since I moved out in 1978. Still I was struck with a strong feeling of sadness as I drove along tonight as I thought about it. Then I realized that if the sale of my childhood home could evoke such feelings, what of our old "spiritual home"?  Yet we are not of the "old home", but the New heavenly home!

see phil 3:20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; and John 17:15-16 I am not asking you to take them out of the world, but that you keep them safe from the evil one. 16 They do not belong to the world just as I do not belong to the world.

So when the "old home" makes you feel sad, just remember it's condemed and ready to be burned, and you have a bright shiny new mansion awating you in heaven!
John 14:2 "In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so , I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you."
