Jack-O-Lantern Christians?
I felt really tired while driving in to work tonight, and I was thinking about the Sunday school lesson I had taught this morning. We were talking about 2 Corinthians chapter 4 where Paul says “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels…” Someone in the class mentioned the phrase “God uses cracked pots” where the more “cracked” we are, the more God’s light can shine through. Then I thought of the jack-o-lantern. You carve up this old pumpkin, and put a light in it that shines through the areas you carved. The deeper you carve, the more light shines through. Christians are like that old pumpkin. Christ comes into our lives and provides the inner “light”. The world with its trials and tribulations “carves” our pumpkin letting Christ shine through and the deeper the cuts the more He shines through!
So maybe like Paul we could say in this Halloween season I will rejoice when the world carves deep into my pumpkin! For when I am cut deeply, Christ shines through all the more!
2 Cor. 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, to show that the transcendent power belongs to God and not to us.
2 Cor 12:9 Each time He said, "My gracious favor is all you need. My power works best in your weakness." So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may work through me.
