Voices from behind the wall
By Smokey the Dog This Saturday I thought I'd get some needed plumbing done. I'm not a plumber myself, but I thought that as long as it wasn't too involved I could do it. Well I took the panel off behind the shower, and looked at the pipes. I quickly realized it was time to call 1-800 my father-in law the plumber. We spent all day replacing the tub & shower fixtures. Oh yea, and the kitchen faucet too. but that is another story. At one point I was sitting in the tub holding one of the fixtures in place. I could hear my father-in-law on the other side of the wall doing something, then it was quiet, then I could hear something else, but I had no idea what he was doing. I just kept holding this fixture, and holding, and holding. I changed my hand position, shook the cramps out, changed my hand position again, and kept waiting. Finally he soldered the pipe together, and we were done(well almost). As I sat there waiting, and listening to what was going on I thought of the parallels to the Christian life. God is on the "Other side of the wall" and we can't see Him. The best we can do is "hear" Him. Most of the time we don't have any idea of what He is doing, and sometimes we get "cramps" from waiting and holding on. Yet if we "Hold on" to the end the job will be finished, and He will say "Well done my good and faithful servant... Enter thou into the Joy of thy Lord."(Matt. 25:21)
