    Romans 2:14-15

Romans 2:14 Even Gentiles, who do not have God’s written law, show that they know his law when they instinctively obey it, even without having heard it. 15They demonstrate that God’s law is written in their hearts, for their own conscience and thoughts either accuse them or tell them they are doing right. (NLT)

The question is often asked “what about those who have never heard of Jesus’? “How can God judge them?’ Well the Bible says man is without excuse because God has revealed Himself to mankind.

Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. 20For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse (NASB)

The Bible says man is without excuse because God has revealed Himself through His creation furthermore God has given man a conscience. In almost every society there are rules or law forbidding murder, stealing, lying, adultery, greed, and lust and the Bible makes it clear those who seek God will find Him.

I will never confess to have all the answers but I know the problem isn’t that God is hidden from man but that man has ran away from God. And for those who are truly concerned about those who don’t know Christ:

Romans 10:14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 15And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

If you are truly concern about those who have never heard about Jesus than obey the Great Commission and take the Word of God to them.

    Romans 2:12-13

Romans 2:12 For all who have sinned without the Law will also perish without the Law, and all who have sinned under the Law will be judged by the Law; 13for it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified.  (NASB)

There are a lot of people who hear and know the commandments of God but do not follow them. We are not justified because we know the Bible, read the Bible, or study the Bible. We are justified by our faith in Christ and by making Him Lord of our lives and obeying Him. There are a lot of people who claim to be Christians but don’t live the Christian life.  I hate the teaching of once saved always saved because it gives people the wrong ideas about living the Christian life. Many people believe because they responded to an altar call and prayed a pray of salvation they are good to go and they never submit their lives to the will of God and truly live the Christian life of living as a dedicated disciple of Christ. And I know this is not what the Southern Baptist Convention and other Christian denominations that believe in once saved always save teach but many people wrongly believe this is being a Christian.

It is a sad fact that many people who claim to be Christian have never read the Bible and have no idea what it truly says. So how are they living the Christian life and obeying the commandments of God if they have no idea of what God commanded them to do? And this is one of the reasons we have such a wide spectrum of beliefs among Christians because many of them actually have no idea what they are supposed to believe. They just go along with what their preacher tells them to believe.

Yes we are justified by our faith in Christ (Ephesians 2:8) but James reminds us that true faith has action behind it.

James 2:14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. (NIV)

    Romans 2:5-11

Romans 2:5 But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. 6God “will repay each person according to what they have done.” 7To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. 8But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger. 9There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile; 10but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 11For God does not show favoritism. (NIV)

There is a coming day of God’s judgment on all of mankind. This isn’t something that is popular to talk about and a lot of people chose to ignore the subject or outright reject the idea of God judging anybody at all, which is foolishness because the Bible is very clear each and every one of us will be judged by God.

Romans 14:10 But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

Revelation 20:11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. 12And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

This is why we call Christ Savior. He saved us from God’s righteous judgment. The Bible says every one of us have sinned (Romans 3:23) and that we are all worthy of death (Romans 6:23) but Christ died on the cross for us so that whosoever accepts Him as Savior and makes Him Lord of their lives and seeks His forgiveness can have their sins forgiven and eternal life through Him. You can never be good enough on your own to earn heaven. Every one of us has transgressed God’s holy law. There is only one way to heaven and that is through Jesus Christ.  A lot of people have convinced themselves they are a good person so they deserve heaven but take a look at the Ten Commandments.

    I. Thou shalt have no other gods beside me.

II. Thou shalt not make to thyself an idol, nor likeness of anything, whatever things are

in the heaven above, and whatever are in the earth beneath, and whatever are in the

waters under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down to them, nor serve them; for I am the

Lord thy God, a jealous God, recompensing the sins of the fathers upon the children, to

the third and fourth generation to them that hate me, and bestowing mercy on them that

love me to thousands of them, and on them that keep my commandments.

III. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord thy God will

not acquit him that takes his name in vain.

IV. Remember the sabbath day to keep it holy. Six days thou shalt labour, and shalt

perform all thy work. But on the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God; on it

thou shalt do no work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy servant nor thy

maidservant, thine ox nor thine ass, nor any cattle of thine, nor the stranger that sojourns

with thee. For in six days the Lord made the heaven and the earth, and the sea and all

things in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the seventh

    day, and hallowed it.

    V. Honour thy father and thy mother, that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest

live long on the good land, which the Lord thy God gives to thee.

VI. Thou shalt not commit adultery.

    VII. Thou shalt not steal.

    VIII. Thou shalt not kill.

IX. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

    X. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife; thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house;

nor his field, nor his servant, nor his maid, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any of his cattle,

nor whatever belongs to thy neighbour.

If you have broken just one of these you are guilty before God and a sinner heading to hell but Christ died so you don’t have to go to hell if you accept Him as Lord and Savior.

    Romans 1:18-32

Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. 20For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. 21For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.

24Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. 25For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

26For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.

28And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, 29being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, 30slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; 32and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them. (NASB)

These verses show the downward spiral of mankind when they reject God. God says man has no excuse for not knowing Him because He has revealed Himself in the things He created. God created this world and He created man in His image but because they refused to acknowledge God their hearts became darken. Man claims to be wise when in truth he is a fool. They rejected the glory of God for gods of their own making. Since they rejected God gave them over to their lusts including homosexuality which is not natural but the result of a depraved mind. They being filled with unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; gossip, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, and unmerciful. They knew the commandments of God and that those who practice sin are worthy of death but they not only practice sin themselves but approve of others who do the same.

God created Adam and Eve but Adam and Eve believed the lie of Satan that they could be like God and mankind fell into the bondage of sin. By the time of Noah man had become so corrupted that God fell He had no choice but to destroy all of mankind except Noah and his family and start over with the family of Noah. But once again we see this downward spiral of sin with the tower of Babel, Sodom and Gomorrah and the history of Israel.

God lead the Hebrews out of bondage in Egypt and established them in the Promised Land and gave them His Law to follow but they soon forgot God and followed the gods of their own making, they fell into sexual fornication, and wickedness and evil. After repeated warnings God first allowed the ten northern tribes of Israel to be led into captivity to never be heard of again and then allowed the Kingdom of Judah to go into captivity but after 70 years of captivity Judah was once again restored. After their denial of Christ and their role in His death Israel was once again destroyed in A.D. 70 to disappear as a nation until Israel was restored in 1948.

Take a hard look at our nation today and you see the same downward spiral of sin. This country was established by people looking for religious freedom. The pilgrims that landed at Plymouth Rock came to the New World looking to establish a new Israel in the wilderness. The first laws and governments in this new world were all established on Biblical principles but look how far we have come today. You can barely mention the Bible in public without someone trying to shut you up with charges of intolerance and bigotry. But if you look you can see the same downward spiral of sin in our society.

This nation has rejected God as the creator and replaced Him with evolution and the Big Bang. Claiming to be wise we are actually fools. We have replaced God with gods of our own making: money, possessions, ourselves, celebrities. We are full of sexual immorality including homosexuality and wickedness and sin is on full display. We know the commandments of God but we disobey them and give approval to others who do the same.

So what is in store for this nation? God destroyed the world with the flood in the days of Noah, destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, destroyed the Kingdom of Israel, and destroyed the nation of Israel all for their sins. So what is in store for this nation that was once established on the Word of God but has rejected Him today? God is a God of love but He is also a God of justice and righteousness and un-repented sin and wickedness will not go un-punished.

    Romans 1:17

Romans 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

The true believer lives by faith. Faith that God is who the Bible reveals Him to be. Faith that Jesus is the Son of God and that He died for our sins and that He is the only Way to heaven and that someday soon He is returning for His church. Faith that God awards the righteous and punishes the rebellious.

As the Bible says it is impossible to please God without faith.

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him

It is through the grace of God and our faith in Him that we are saved.

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

It is by faith that we walk through this world of evil and sin. In a world that continues to grow hostile to all the things of God and anyone that calls on His name because we know God promised that all though we will face tough times and persecution for our faith God promised He would never leave us or forsake us.

Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

I have never seen God with my eyes but I know He is real because I can feel Him with my heart, I can see Him in the world He has created, the miracles He performs, the prayers that He answers, and the change I have seen in my heart and the change I have seen in other sinners who have come to Him.

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

    Romans 1:16

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ. These are powerful words for our world today. I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ because I know it is the one and only answer for our world today that is drowning in sin and wickedness. The Gospel of Christ is the answer for our world today. The good news of the Gospel is that all though we are all sinners (Romans 3:23) and we are all worthy of death for our sins (Romans 6:23) but Christ died so that whosoever believes in Him and accepts Him as Lord and Savior can have their sins forgiven and eternal life through Him.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

I know Christ is the one and only answer for our world today. It saddens me to see so many Christians seeking answer to our problems beside Christ. This world needs Christ, our nation needs Christ. The answer can’t be found it politics, politicians, the Republican party, the Democrat part, the Tea Party, Glenn Beck, Fox News, or any other man made institution or person. The answer is Christ because the problem is sin. Sin has separated us from God and only Christ can make us clean before God.

This world is dying from a disease called sin. Sin destroys the soul and dooms the individual to hell and eternal life away from God but Christ died as a sin sacrifice so that we can be saved, freed from the bondage of sin and made clean before God. Christ died so that whosoever accepts Him as Lord and Savior can be saved and have eternal life with God. This is more than believing there is a God because the Bible says even Satan and his demons believe there is a God.

James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

It means making God Lord of your life. It means you no longer live to do your will but you live to do the will of God. It means you no longer live to do what you please but you live to please God. It means you follow His commandments and no longer live a life of sin.

    Acts 28:25-27

Acts 28:25 And when they did not agree with one another, they began leaving after Paul had spoken one parting word, “The Holy Spirit rightly spoke through Isaiah the prophet to your fathers,

    26saying,
‘GO TO THIS PEOPLE AND SAY,
                “YOU WILL KEEP ON HEARING, BUT WILL NOT UNDERSTAND;
                AND YOU WILL KEEP ON SEEING, BUT WILL NOT PERCEIVE;

27FOR THE HEART OF THIS PEOPLE HAS BECOME DULL,
AND WITH THEIR EARS THEY SCARCELY HEAR,
                AND THEY HAVE CLOSED THEIR EYES;
OTHERWISE THEY MIGHT SEE WITH THEIR EYES,
                AND HEAR WITH THEIR EARS,
AND UNDERSTAND WITH THEIR HEART AND RETURN,
AND I WOULD HEAL THEM.”’ (NASB)

These words were originally spoken as warning to the nation of Israel for their disobedience to God but they could just as easily been written as warning to us today. Many argue rather this nation (America) was founded as a Christian nation but one thing is for sure the Pilgrims that came here from England came here seeking religious freedom from the Church of England and was looking to establish a new Promised Land in the wilderness. They were convinced that the Church of England was so corrupt that they thought they had no choice but flee to the new world and begin again in the new world. They fully believed God was guiding them in their adventure and they intended to create a new Promised Land in the new world built on the principals of God found in the Bible and it was this legacy that had a major impact on the founding fathers of this nation. Rather all of the founding fathers were Christian or not is a matter of debate but one thing is sure this nation was built on Christian principals but today this nation has drifted from God and continues to do so.

In Deuteronomy 28 we have the blessings and the curses that were written for the nation of Israel. The chapter starts off with the blessings the nation of Israel can expect if they continue to follow God and obey Him but then the chapter has the curses the nation of Israel can expect if they stray from God and disobey Him. This chapter was originally written for the Israelites but I also believe it applies to all nations and peoples. Those who obey God will be blessed and those who disobey God will suffer the consequences of their choice and face the judgment of God for their disobedience.

Many may disagree with me but I truly believe that the Pilgrims were guided by God and I truly believe God had a guiding hand in the establishment of this nation and I believe that for many years this nation was blessed by God for their obedience to Him. This nation wasn’t perfect and we are guilty of many crimes, Abraham Lincoln believed the Civil War was a curse upon America for allowing slavery to happen, but for many years this country walked close to God and played a major role in evangelizing the rest of the world but today we as a nation have started to turn away from God. We have taken God out of schools and we are trying to take God out of our political and public lives and I believe God is going to turn His back on us if we continue to turn our backs to Him. One thing that is clear in the Bible is that choices have consequences and if we reject God as a nation we will suffer the consequences and I believe we are already seeing this with the moral corruption of our nation, the weak economy, the violence in our nation, and our status as a weakened world power.

    Acts 26:24-25

Acts 26:24 While Paul was saying this in his defense, Festus said in a loud voice, “Paul, you are out of your mind! Your great learning is driving you mad.” 25But Paul said, “I am not out of my mind, most excellent Festus, but I utter words of sober truth. (NASB)

Many people have a hard time understanding Christianity or our belief in God. They see it as fantasy and myth but Paul warned us of this. Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians that the preaching of the cross is foolish to the world.

1 Corinthians 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19For it is written:

    “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;

the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”

20Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.

26Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29so that no one may boast before him. 30It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 31Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.” (NIV)

I believe in God because I know what He has done personally in my life. I know I was once a sinner heading to hell but in Christ I am a new man. I am weak but in Christ I am strong. It is our faith in a God we cannot see that confuses the world. I can’t see God but I can see Him all around me through His creation and I can feel His presence in my heart and I know He is real through the blessings in my life and the prayers that He answer.

Festus thought Paul was insane when in reality he was far from it. Paul knew that Festus like so many in the world has been deceived by Satan.

2 Corinthians 4:4in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. (NASB)

Satan has deceived the world into thinking this world is all there is. You live your life year after year enjoying bits of pieces of it here and there and you die and that is it but this is far from the truth. Man didn’t evolve. Man is a creation of God Himself. He was created to have fellowship with God but sin broke that fellowship with God. God almighty the Holy God could not have fellowship with that which is un-pure and corrupted by sin but Christ died as a perfect sinless sacrifice for us so that whosoever believes in Him and accepts Him as Lord and Savior can be washed clean of their sins and have a rightful relationship re-established with our Father in heaven.

I myself have decided I am not going to just drift through life until the day I die. I am going to live my life for Christ. My life is His, His will be done.

    1 Kings 8:46-53

1 Kings 8:46 “When they sin against you—for there is no one who does not sin—and you become angry with them and give them over to their enemies, who take them captive to their own lands, far away or near; 47and if they have a change of heart in the land where they are held captive, and repent and plead with you in the land of their captors and say, ‘We have sinned, we have done wrong, we have acted wickedly’; 48and if they turn back to you with all their heart and soul in the land of their enemies who took them captive, and pray to you toward the land you gave their ancestors, toward the city you have chosen and the temple I have built for your Name; 49then from heaven, your dwelling place, hear their prayer and their plea, and uphold their cause. 50And forgive your people, who have sinned against you; forgive all the offenses they have committed against you, and cause their captors to show them mercy; 51for they are your people and your inheritance, whom you brought out of Egypt, out of that iron-smelting furnace.

52“May your eyes be open to your servant’s plea and to the plea of your people Israel, and may you listen to them whenever they cry out to you. 53For you singled them out from all the nations of the world to be your own inheritance, just as you declared through your servant Moses when you, Sovereign Lord, brought our ancestors out of Egypt.” (NIV)

Romans 3:23 proclaims that we have all sinned and we come short of the glory of God.

    Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

The Bible also says because we have sinned we are worthy of death.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

But God in His grace, love and mercy for us provided a Way for us to escape the just dues of our sins through the death and resurrection of Christ. That whosoever believes in Him and accepts Him as Lord and Savior can have their sins forgiven and eternal life through Him.

Many people have a hard time with the idea of God as a God that punishes sin and sends people to an eternity in hell but what kind of God would God be if He didn’t punish the disobedient and the wicked? What kind of God would He be if He allowed the guilty to walk free? We don’t expect our criminal court judges to allow the guilty to go unpunished so why should we expect God to allow the guilty to go free?  But through His grace God provided an escape for those who seek His forgiveness and repent of their evil ways and make Him Lord over their lives. This free gift of salvation is open to all who seeks God forgiveness and makes Christ the Lord of their lives but those who reject this free gift of salvation and continue to walk in disobedience and rebellion toward God will receive their just dues for their sins. See God is a God of love and mercy but He is also a God of justice and judgment.

    Acts 24:24-27

Acts 24:24 Several days later Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish. He sent for Paul and listened to him as he spoke about faith in Christ Jesus. 25As Paul talked about righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and said, “That’s enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you.” 26At the same time he was hoping that Paul would offer him a bribe, so he sent for him frequently and talked with him.

27When two years had passed, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus, but because Felix wanted to grant a favor to the Jews, he left Paul in prison. (NIV)

Felix is like so many people today. God is an inconvenience for them. They believe in God but it is not convenient for them to serve Him. They are too busy living their lives to make time for God and don’t dare talk about such things as righteousness, self-control, or judgment. It is ok as long as you talk about God loving everyone and blessing everyone but don’t talk about the need to serve Him, and live for Him, and obey Him because than God becomes an inconvenience. They want to live their lives their way without God getting in their way. He is ok as long as He stays in church on Sunday morning where He belongs and don’t get involved in their daily lives and their fun.

A lot of people live with this fantasy that they will get right with God later. After they get married, or after they have kids, or when they get older but right now they are having fun or busy making a career but God hasn’t promised you another day or another hour. You could pass away tonight before you have a chance to get right with God. One thing we can be sure of in life is that with every passing day we are one day closer to death or one day closer to the return of Christ but either way we are one day closer to standing before the judgment seat of God and if you haven’t accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior than your fate is sealed because you have rejected the One and only Way to heaven.
