    Luke 9:5,6

Luke 9:5 And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them. 6And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing every where.

In the verses prior to these Jesus had given His disciples instructions to go out and preach the Gospel and heal the sick.  Now He is telling them if anyone refuses to hear them to shake off the dust of their feet as testimony against them and move on.  If anyone was to refuse to hear them they weren’t to stay and force themselves on the people or to nag them until they give in, they were to move on they had done their duty, those who refuse to hear will be held responsible for refusing to hear the Gospel.

Everyone is not open to hearing the Gospel.  Some are suspicious of Christianity and preachers and others know they are living in sin and need Christ but aren’t willing to give up their lifestyles to submit to the Lordship of Christ.  2 Corinthians 4:4 says that Satan has blinded the minds of unbelievers so that they can’t understand the need for the Gospel.  That is why it is important for Christians pray for unbelievers so that the Holy Spirit can break through this blindness and open their eyes to their need for Christ.

It is our duty as believers to preach the Gospel in the world realizing sadly not everyone is going to receive it.  That is human nature, the Hebrews rebelled in the desert and they were led personally by God, Christ came to earth and He was rejected and put to death by His own countryman, and you can read in Revelation that even after all the signs and judgment rendered against man in the final days many will still refuse to submit to God.

In the midst of all of this we are to continue to preach the Word knowing they are not rejecting us they are rejecting God and God will judge them of their rejection of the Gospel and their rebellion against Him.

    Luke 8:25

Luke 8:25 Then he asked them, “Where is your faith?”

The disciples were terrified and amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “When he gives a command, even the wind and waves obey him!” (NLT)

Who is this man?  The Disciples were still growing in their understanding of who Jesus truly was.  Today many people struggle with the same question.  Who is this man, Jesus?  Many see Him as a myth and the put Him on the same level as Santa Clause or the Easter Bunny.  Some believe He was an actual person but nothing more than a great teacher, some kind of insightful guru with great sayings about morality.  But Jesus is much more than this.  He is the Son of God born of a virgin, He lived a sinless life and died on the cross for our sins that whosoever accepts Him as Lord and Savior can have the forgiveness of their sins and eternal life through Him.  He is the one and only Way to the Father and He is a coming king that will return someday for His church and to judge this world of its sins.

To the Christian He is Lord and Savior.  The Christian recognizes He is the Master and they are the servant.  Many believe Jesus is the Son of God but refuse to recognize Him as Lord because to recognize Him as Lord means to surrender your will to His will.  Many believe He is the Savior but yet refuse to turn from their sinful lifestyles and follow Him.  It doesn’t do just to believe Jesus exists, Satan and his demons know Jesus exists.  Until you repent of your sins and accept Him as the Lord of your life and recognize you are a sinner in need of salvation and that Christ is the Way to the salvation you are still a slave to your sins and headed to hell.

    Luke 8:19-21

Luke 8:19 And His mother and brothers came to Him, and they were unable to get to Him because of the crowd. 20And it was reported to Him, “Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, wishing to see You.” 21But He answered and said to them, “My mother and My brothers are these who hear the word of God and do it.” (NASB)

Was Jesus being disrespectful to His mother and rude to His brothers?  No of course not.  He was using the moment to make a point.  Those who hear the word of God and do it are the family of God.  Those who accept Christ are the children of God.

John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,

The Jews believed they were the children of God because they were the descendants of Abraham but the Bible says those who receive Christ are the children of God.  In fact in John chapter 8 Jesus tells the Jews they have Satan for a father because they reject Him.

You are either a child of God or a child of Satan and if you reject Christ you are a child of Satan because the children of God hear the word of God and do it and have accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior.  So are you a child of God or Satan?

    Luke 8:18

Luke 8:18 “So pay attention to how you hear. To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what they think they understand will be taken away from them.” (NLT)

Many people claim the Bible is hard to understand, perhaps, it just depends on who is trying to read it and how.  You will not understand the Bible outside of the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

1 John 2:27 But you have received the Holy Spirit, and he lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you everything you need to know, and what he teaches is true—it is not a lie.

So just as he has taught you, remain in fellowship with Christ.

Many people have a hard time understanding the Bible because they are trying to read it for the wrong reasons or they are trying to apply human understanding to that which is spiritual.  If you don’t believe in a supernatural almighty God then you are not going to understand the Bible.  The wisdom of this world is foolishness to God.

1 Corinthians 3:18 Do not deceive yourselves. If any one of you thinks he is wise by the standards of this age, he should become a “fool” so that he may become wise. 19For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness”; 20and again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile (NIV)

If you are a believer seeking to know God and understand His word God will reveal Himself to you through the Holy Spirit who will give you guidance and wisdom to understand the ways of God and His will but you never come to an understanding of God through the wisdom of this world.  God will reveal Himself to you if you earnestly seek Him.

    Luke 8:16,17

Luke 8:16 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light. 17For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.

Christ is the light that has come to shine in this world of darkness.  We are to let the light of Christ shine in this dark world through us.  We are not to hid in our churches or in homes we are to let the light shine in this world of darkness through us.

This world is cloaked in the darkness of evil but Christ is the light that breaks through the darkness but the only way the light can shine into the darkness is if we let the light of Christ shine through us.

So many Christians are afraid to let their light shine.  They have been bullied and led to believe that it is intolerant or hateful to proclaim Christ in public.  What would be hateful is to not tell others about Christ.  This world is suffering from the most deadliest and biggest sin to ever effect mankind and that is sin.  It is a disease that destroys lives, marriages, dreams, hopes, children, whatever it comes into contact with.  But if you are a Christian than you know the cure for this disease and the cure is Christ.  If you knew the cure for cancer wouldn’t you tell others, wouldn’t it be criminal not to.  So why are Christians afraid to tell others about Christ when doing so would save lives?  You are not just saving physical lives but spiritual lives by saving them from an eternity in hell.

    Luke 8:11-15

Luke 8:11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. 12Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. 13They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away. 14And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection. 15But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

This parable explains four different types of people and their response to the Gospel.  First you have those who hear the Gospel but don’t let it take root so they don’t believe and aint saved.  Second you have those who hear but they don’t let the Word take root so they easily fall away.  Third you have those who hear the Word but they care more about the riches and pleasures of this world then they do of the things of God.  And last you have those who hear the Word and let’s it take root in their heart and it bears fruit in their heart.

The nation of Israel was an agricultural based economy so most of them would have understood a parable about farming but this parable is pretty easy to understand by those with no background in farming or gardening.  For a seed to grow it needs to find good ground to grow in.  A seed that has good ground will grow and produce fruit that has seeds that will fall back into the ground and produce even more plants.

Not everyone is going to be receptive to the Word of God.  Some will refuse to hear or not let it sink in, others are receptive but don’t let it take root so they easily fall away, others hear the Word of God but care more about the things of the world then serving God, and then others hear the Word are saved and they go on to tell others about God and bring others to God.

So which seed are you?  Do you ignore the Word of God?  Do you hear it but don’t let it take root in your heart?  Do you hear it but care more about the things of the world instead of serving God? Or do you gladly hear the Word of God believe it and choose to serve God and tell others about Him?

    Luke 7:48-50

Luke 7:48 And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven. 49And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also? 50And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.

The Jews believed only God had the power to forgive sins so here Christ was putting Himself equal with God when He declared her sins forgiven but He was the Son of God so He had the power and authority to forgive sins. Our sins are forgiven through Christ and Christ alone because it is Christ who died on the cross for our sins. It is Christ who died on the cross for our sins as a sin sacrifice.  It is through Christ and Christ alone we are saved from our sins and the judgment of God.

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

There is no other way to have your sins forgiven than to come to Christ admit they you are a sinner, recognizing in faith that Jesus is the Son of God who died on the cross for our sins, accepting Him as Lord and Savior and asking for forgiveness in His name.

Good deeds can’t erase your sins, hail Marys can’t erase your sin, no priest, no Pope, no other man has the power and authority to forgive your sins accept Christ.  Christ is the only Way to the Father any other way is a false way and only leads to hell.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

There is only one person who stands before God and mediates on the behalf of man.

1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus

    Genesis 8:20-22

Genesis 8:20 Then Noah built an altar to the Lord and took some of every clean animal and some of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar. 21And when the Lord smelled the pleasing aroma, the Lord said in his heart, “I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intention of man’s heart is evil from his youth. Neither will I ever again strike down every living creature as I have done. 22While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.” (ESV)

When Adam sinned against God man became corrupted by sin and every person born since Adam and Eve have been born into sin and alienated from God.  John 3:19 says that man loves the darkness (evil/sin) instead of the Light (Christ) because their works were evil and Romans 3:23 says we have all sinned.

John 3:19And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.

Romans 3:23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Mankind is born into sin and their heart is corrupt but Christ died on the cross to free us from sin and the penalty of sin.  Christ died that whosoever believes in Him and accepts Him as Lord and Savior can have the forgiveness of their sins and eternal life through Him.

Romans 10:9because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” 12For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

    Luke 7:44-47

Luke 7:44 Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. 46You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. 47Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—for she loved much. But he who has been forgiven little loves little.” (NIV)

In the times of Jesus the Jews had certain customs they would follow for guests of their homes that would include providing water to clean one’s feet since they wore sandals and traveled on dusty roads, they would greet their guest with a friendly kiss on the cheek, and pour oil on their heads which would give the guest a pleasant smell.  Simon did none of this which probably was an arrogant self-righteous snub at Jesus but the woman who was identified as a sinner which meant she probably had a bad reputation washed the feet of Jesus with her tears and her hair and kissed his feet and poured expensive oil on his head.  You see while the self-righteous Simon refused to recognize who Jesus was the woman knew she was a sinner and she also knew Jesus was the answer to her sinful condition.

We have so many people in our own society today who refuse to recognize Jesus as Savior or admit they need a Savior.  Until a person admits they are a sinner in need of a Savior they will never admit they need Jesus.  Until a person recognizes they are a sinner Jesus is just a myth or a great teacher and nothing more.  Only when a person recognizes their sinful condition will they admit they need Him.

Application: The Bible says we are all sinners worthy of death, every one of us and every one of us is headed to hell unless we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior.  Only when we recognize our own sinful nature and recognize Jesus as our only hope of salvation will recognize Him for who He truly is.  The One and Only Son of God that died on the cross for our sins so that whosoever believes in Him and accepts Him as Lord and Savior can have their sins forgiven and eternal life through Him.

    Genesis 3:1-5

Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made.He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” 2And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, 3but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’” 4But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” (ESV)

The serpent of course is Satan and we see him here leading Eve into temptation by telling her two lies.  First that she won’t die and two that she can be like God.

Satan is still telling the same lies today, that if you disobey God you won’t be punished.  One of the biggest lies being pushed around today is that there is no hell and no coming judgment of God but any serious student of the Bible knows this to be false.  The second lie still being told is that we can be like God.  A lot of New Age beliefs are centered around this lie in the belief that we are all our own gods.  This is a lie.  There is only one God and that is the almighty God of the Bible.

Don’t be fooled God punishes sin.  God punishes disobedience to His will and the coming judgment of God and eternal punishment is very real.  God is a loving and patient God but His patience with mankind will run out.  Jesus left this earth almost 2000 years ago with a promise to return.  He will return to claim His church and judge the world of its sins.

People are led away by lies when they don’t know the Bible.  Any person who has seriously study the Bible knows that God punishes sin but at the same time He offers forgiveness and salvation in His Son Jesus Christ for all who accept Him as Lord and Savior will have eternal life through Him and Jesus Christ is the only Way to this salvation.  While the world teaches we are our own gods or offers many false gods Jesus is the only Way to true salvation and all others ways are false and only lead to eternal damnation.  So don’t be led away by lies accept Christ as the true Way to salvation.

    Luke 7:25,26

Luke 7:25 If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear expensive clothes and indulge in luxury are in palaces. 26But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. (NIV)

Jesus is speaking about John the Baptist here.  He is reminding them that John the Baptist lived in the desert, he wore camel’s hair and ate locust and honey.  Jesus said those who live in luxury and wear fancy clothes are in palaces they are not prophets and they are not disciples.  Jesus and His disciples traveled from town to town on foot carrying their belongings with them.  Paul traveled hundreds of miles on foot spreading the Gospel and endured many hardships.  Paul gives a list of these hardships in 2 Corinthians chapter 11.

23Are they servants of Christ? (I am out of my mind to talk like this.) I am more. I have worked much harder, been in prison more frequently, been flogged more severely, and been exposed to death again and again. 24Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. 25Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea, 26I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my own countrymen, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false brothers. 27I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food; I have been cold and naked. 28Besides everything else, I face daily the pressure of my concern for all the churches.

But this is what Christ had promised to those who would follow Him.  He never promised us the good life here on earth.

John 15:18 If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. 20Remember the words I spoke to you: ‘No servant is greater than his master.’b If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. 21They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the One who sent me.

Around the world today Christians are being persecuted for their faith in China, North Korea, Vietnam, India, Nigeria, the Middle East and other places but I know these Christians have great faith.  They have real faith.  It is not just a word to them.  It is not a word to throw around with empty promises of great blessings and material wealth that you will find in the prosperity movement or the word of faith movement.  Because as Jesus said lives of luxury and expensive clothes are for those in palaces.  You will find the real Disciples of Christ forsaking the things of this world to serve Him.

    Genesis 6:11-13

Genesis 6:11 Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence. 12God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways. 13So God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth. (NIV)

Mankind had at this became so corrupted that God felt He had no choice but to destroy mankind and start over with the family of Noah.  God is a loving God and a patient God but at the same time He is a holy God and a God of justice that will not let un-repented sin go unpunished.  We see this with Sodom and Gomorrah.  Sodom and Gomorrah had become so corrupted God felt He had no choice but to destroy them and their wickedness.  Look at the Old Testament kingdoms of Israel and Judah, God gave them chance after chance to repent of their wickedness until it came a point that God let the kingdoms be destroyed and occupied by foreign nations.  After the Jewish people refused to accept Christ as their Savior God let the Romans destroy the Jewish nation in A.D. 70 and the Jewish nation cease to exist until 1948 when the Jewish nation was restored.

I say this because some have taken the judgment of God lightly.  Don’t take the long patience of God with this world lightly.  God has given mankind 2000 years to accept the Gospel of Christ and we are now seeing the Gospel reach places it has never been while at the same time Christianity is on the decline in the West but both of these facts are prophecy because the Bible says before Christ returns the Gospel will be preached to all nations and it also speaks of great apostasy in the end times.

God is patient with mankind because He wants all to have a chance to respond to the Gospel but His patience is not without end.  The prophecies of Revelation will come true.  Christ is going to return to claim His church and God is going to judge the world of its sins the biggest question is where will you spend eternity.  If you don’t have Christ as your Lord and Savior then the answer is hell.

    Luke 7:24

Luke 7:24And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness for to see? A reed shaken with the wind?

What does Jesus mean by a weed shaken with the wind?  A wind has no spine bone and it has no real stiffness to it so it blows whichever way the wind takes it.

John was no reed blowing with whatever wind that came along.  He was man of great faith and courage.  He was at this time in prison for speaking out against the sins Herod had committed by marrying his brother’s wife.  John had to know that preaching against the sins of the king would be dangerous but he didn’t back down.  This is the same John that had lived in the desert eating locust and honey and clothing himself with camel hair.

Sadly too many Christians and their leaders are more like the reed instead of like John.  They blow along with whatever comes along never resisting, never taking a stand, they just go along with whatever never wanting to stand out.  Jesus warned of the dangers of just following the crowd with the parable of the gates.  The gate that leads to hell is wide and well-traveled but the path to heaven is narrow and straight.  So you can go along with the flow as it leads you to hell or you can be a person of great faith and courage and take a stand on the Word of God amidst a society that is being lead to hell with the crowd.

Matthew 7:13 Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. (NIV)

    Luke 7:23

Luke 7:23 And anyone who is not offended because of Me is blessed.” (HCS)

Sadly there are some Christians who are embarrassed about their beliefs or what the Bible has to say.  They are embarrassed about what the Bible says about marriage, homosexuality, about the Bible’s claim about Jesus being the only way to heaven, about its teachings on hell, on creation, and other unpopular subjects.  These people want to follow Jesus but at the same time are embarrassed about Christ teachings on many hot button issues in our modern society.  Well you can’t have it both ways, being a follower of Christ aint going to make you popular with a lot of people today.  In fact Christ promised we would be hated because of Him.  The choice you have to make is rather you are going to stand with Christ and His Word even if that means being hated and demonize by society or are you going to bow to the pressures of political correctness.  Just remember the words of Jesus,

Matthew 10:32 Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. 33But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven. (NIV)

    Genesis 6:5

Genesis 6:5 Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. (NASB)

This is the state of man outside of a relationship God.  We saw Adam and Eve who was created perfectly corrupted by sin and their seed after them.  Cain killed Abel over jealousy and through the first chapters of the Bible you can see the corrupting influence that sin had on the creation that was once created perfect but now had become corrupted by sin.

Paul in Romans 1 explains the downward spiral of mankind into sin.  These verses basically lay

out the history of man’s rebellion against God.  Paul says man knows the truth because God has

made it obvious to them. (v.19)  Since man can clearly see His invisible qualities, His eternal

power, and divine nature they have no excuse for not knowing Him. (v. 20) Yet they refused to

worship Him or give thanks to Him so they began to think up foolish ideas about God.  As a

result their minds became dark and confused. (v.21)  Thinking themselves wise they instead

became fools. (v.22)  And instead of worshipping God they worshipped idols made to look like

people or animals. (v.23)  So God abandoned them to do whatever shameful things their hearts

desired and as a result they did vile and degrading things with each other. (v.24)  They traded the

truth for a lie and worshipped things they created instead of the creator. (v.25)  God abandoned

them to their shameful desires which resulted in homosexuality. (vs.26, 27)  Since they thought it

foolish to acknowledge God He abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things

that shouldn’t be done and their lives became full of wickedness and sin. (vs.28-31)  He says they are full unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil, envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice, gossip, slander, hate, insolence, arrogance, pride, disobedience.  And verse 32 says they know that those who do such things deserve to die but they do them anyway.

This is the state of man outside of a relationship with God but those who have accepted Christ as Lord and Savior are born again as new creations in Christ.  We no longer serve sin and our evil desires.  Our life has purpose and that purpose is to serve God in all things.

    Genesis 4:1-7

Genesis 4:1 Adam lay with his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain. She said, “With the help of the Lord I have brought forth a man.” 2Later she gave birth to his brother Abel. Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil. 3In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord. 4But Abel brought fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering, 5but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast. 6Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? 7If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it.” (NIV)

From verse 7 you get the image of sin like a wild beast crouch waiting to attack.  In 1 Peter 5:8 Peter describes Satan as a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

1 Peter 5:8 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour (NIV)

Sin will destroy your life.  Satan knows he is defeated.  You can bet he knows what the book of Revelation says about his coming judgment but just like a soldier fighting to the end for a lost cause Satan is going to try to destroy as many lives as he can and drag as many people to hell with him as he can before his final judgment.  Romans chapter six describes someone living in sin as being slaves to sin.  When we accept Christ He frees us from the bondage of sin so of instead of serving Satan and sin we become the servants of God.  You are going to serve someone either you are a slave of sin and Satan or a servant of God there is no in between and there is no grey area or neutrals in this battle between good and evil, between Satan and God.  If you aint a child of God then you are a child of Satan.  Millions of people are serving Satan and don’t even realize it.  They might not even believe in him but they are serving him.  The atheists might not believe there is a devil but they serve his purpose every time they attack the church.  The liberal is serving the purpose of Satan every time they try to silence the church.  You are going to be servant of someone and if you aint a child of God than you are a child of Satan.

    Luke 6:47-49

Luke 6:47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: 48He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. 49But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.

Storms will come in our life but if we have a strong foundation built on Christ and His word we can resist these storms through Christ but anyone with a foundation built on anything else will collapse.  Financial well-being aint a strong foundation because money comes and goes.  A career aint a strong foundation because jobs come and go.  People lose their jobs every-day.  Companies go under and lay off their employees, people get hurt and get sick and are no longer able to work, or get fired for misconduct.  Friends and family aint strong foundations, they are just as flawed as you are and just as prone to mistakes and to the pressures of this world as you are.  If you are putting your trust in anything or anyone else besides God to get you through the tough times you are going to fail.  It might not happen with the first storm or the second but a house without a foundation can only take so much before it gives in.

God wants us to trust in Him that is why we call Him Father.  In Hebrews 13:5 it says God will never leave us or forsake us.  What a promise.  God never promised that we would never have tough times, in fact Christ said we could expect tough times for following Him, but God said when we do have tough times He would be with us.

Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

In Romans 8:31 it says what are to fear if God is with us.

Romans 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

    Luke 6:46

Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

What a question, why do we call Jesus Lord and don’t do what says or teaches?  Why do we call Him Lord but don’t follow His commandments?  Why do we call Him Lord but choose the things of the world over the things of God?  Why do we call Him Lord but care more about what society thinks is right then we care about what Christ thinks is right?  Why do we call Him Lord but care more about pleasing others than we care about pleasing Him?  Why do we call Him Lord but care more about what others think of us than what Christ thinks of us?

Perhaps He really aint Lord of our lives because if He was we would desire to do His will instead of ours.  When we call Christ Lord we are saying He is Lord of our lives and we bow to His will as humble servants but too many people don’t comprehend that.  If we say Christ is our Lord than we are saying we are His humble servants and we live to do His will and not ours.  The servant’s life revolves around pleasing the Master and doing His wishes but the problem is too many of us want to be our own master of our lives.  We can’t have it both ways either Christ is Master of your life or you are and if you are the master of your life than you are rejecting Christ as your Lord and if you say you love Christ but reject Him as Lord of your life than you lying because if you truly love Him than He would be Master of your life.  So is Christ Lord of your life or not?

    Genesis 3:1-5

Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? 2And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: 3But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. 4And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

The first lie Satan told Eve was that if she disobeyed God that she wouldn’t die.  He convinced her that God would not punish her for disobeying Him.  Satan convinced Eve that God was lying to her when He said she would die if she ate the fruit.  The second lie Satan told Eve that was that she could be a god.  Satan convinced Eve that if she ate the fruit she could be just like God.

Satan is still telling the same lies today and he has his preachers preaching this message still today.  That you can disobey God and go unpunished.  One of the biggest lies of Satan is the idea of Universal Salvation which is the belief that when Christ died on the cross everyone automatically became saved and everyone is going to heaven and that hell is just a myth.  What a lie, do not be deceived hell is very real and is reserved for those who reject Christ as their Lord and Savior.  This belief teaches that no matter what we do we are still going to heaven which means everyone will go to heaven including people like Hitler.  Does that even seem right to you, that God would let someone like Hitler go to heaven without being punished for his actions?

The second lie is still being preached today in the form of New Age religion and some Eastern religions which is the belief we can be our own gods.  Don’t be deceived God won’t be mocked.  There is only one God and woe to the person who tries to make himself equal with God almighty.
