    Luke 9:23-25

    23 He said to all, “If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.

    24 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever will lose his life for my sake, the same will save it.

    25 For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses or forfeits his own self?

    This is no half way with Christ.  It is all our nothing.  Just like when you get married you are taking a vow that that person is the one there is nobody else.  Well it is the same with Christ he wants all of us.  We must completly let go of ourselves and the world.  We cannot serve two masters.  We can't be part of the world and be part of the body of Christ.  No compromise.  To many churches and Christians are willing to compromise on these fact.  The world and Christ are never going to be in harmony.  Since Adam mankind has been in a constant state of rebellion against God.  We have created our on Gods to replace the true God.  We have created our own story of creation.  You must decide if you are going to be a Christian you are going to accept God's will for your life and not be part of the world and its rebellion against God.

    Proverbs 12:5-7

    5 The thoughts of the righteous are just, But the advice of the wicked is deceitful.

    6 The words of the wicked are about lying in wait for blood, But the speech of the upright rescues them.

    7 The wicked are overthrown, and are no more, But the house of the righteous shall stand.

    Luke 8:11-15

    11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. 12 Those along the road are those who hear, then the devil comes, and takes away the word from their heart, that they may not believe and be saved. 13 Those on the rock are they who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; but these have no root, who believe for a while, then fall away in time of temptation. 14 That which fell among the thorns, these are those who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity. 15 That in the good ground, these are such as in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, hold it tightly, and bring forth fruit with patience.

    This is part of the parable of the sower.  There are 4 different type of people explained here.  Which one are you?  Is your heart fertile gound for the word of God.  Where it can put down deep roots and grow strong and produce much fruit or is your heart harded and rocky and full of the cares of the world.  Are you full of disbelief and doubt and more concern with the things of the world than the things of God?

    Psalm 69:9

    Psalm 69:9 For the zeal of your house consumes me. The reproaches of those who reproach you have fallen on me.

    It would be a great thing if all Christians had as much zeal for God as we often do for such things as our favorite sports team, our favorite race car driver, or put as much effort into it as we do at work.  We can start by reading the Bible.  It is shocking how many Christians never take time to read the Bible.

    Luke 7:24,25

    24 After John’s disciples left, Jesus began talking about him to the crowds. "What kind of man did you go into the wilderness to see? Was he a weak reed, swayed by every breath of wind?

    25 Or were you expecting to see a man dressed in expensive clothes? No, people who wear beautiful clothes and live in luxury are found in palaces.

    Take a minute and compare John the Baptist to some of our modern church leaders.  John lived in the desert eating locusts and wore camel skins.  He didn’t care about the material things of the world he had a mission to accomplish.  He didn’t live in an expensive house and wear expensive cloths.  Look at the apostles simple men who dedicated themselves to spreading the good news not seeking material gain.  These men are the examples of Christian living not the rich televangilist on TV.

    Luke 6:45

    45 The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings out that which is good, and the evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings out that which is evil, for out of the abundance of the heart, his mouth speaks.

    Your mouth speaks what is in your heart.  If you have bitterness, hate, greed in your heart that is what is going to come out of your heart.  But if you have the love of God in your heart that is what your mouth is going to speak.  We know their are deceivers out there so you really have to pay attention to what they are saying, don’t be taken in by false teachers.

    Luke 6:31

    31 Do to others as you would like them to do to you.

    Of course this is known as the Golden Rule, but do we actually practice it.  Are you respectful and courterous to strangers?  Are you respectful of your neighbors?  Are you respectful toward your fellow coworkers and the people you come into contact with at work?  I am the type of person that if I come to business and the people are rude I won't come back, even if I have to drive further to do my business.  I always make a point to say thank you to cashiers and waitresses no matter how friendly they are toward me.  I try to be friendly to my neighbor.  That is a hard one because he is a bit rude but I try not to react in kind.  But when dealing with people I try to remember that I am a representative of Christ not myself and I need to keep that in mind and make a good and positive impression for Christ.

    24 Give freely and become more wealthy;
          be stingy and lose everything.

     25 The generous will prosper;
          those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.

    I was watching a news show the other day and they was interviewing a therapist who had written a book about giving.  She had spent intesive research to conclude people who give to charties and volunteer are happier than people who don't.  And all I could think was "duh" the Bible says the same thing many times and it was written thousands of years ago.  She thought she had discover something new.  God blesses a cheerful giver.  He has given us so much including his son, he expects the same in return.

    You can look here on the internet a find plenty of beautiful women who lack discretion.  They have sold their self respect and soul for the little bit of money they make allowing dirty images of themselves to be posted on the internet.  And if you look at these image you are contributing to this sin.

    Psalm 62:10

    10 Don’t make your living by extortion
          or put your hope in stealing.
       And if your wealth increases,
          don’t make it the center of your life.

    Why shouldn't we make wealth the center of our lives?  As Christians God should be the center of our lives, anything we put before God is an idol.  If you are consumed with pursuing money or being successful than it is the center of your life and thus an idol.  There is nothing wrong with being successful but when it comes first in your life than it becomes wrong.

    Luke 3:8

    8 Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God. Don’t just say to each other, ‘We’re safe, for we are descendants of Abraham.’ That means nothing, for I tell you, God can create children of Abraham from these very stones.

    John was talking to some of the Jewish leaders at the time who claimed to be righteous but their actions said otherwise.  Sadly today we have a lot of Christians walking the same way.  They claim to be righteous but their heart and actions say otherwise.  You can't hide what is in your heart from God.  To be truly righteous you will have a true heart and your actions will show it.

    Luke 2:49

    49 And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?”

    As Christians we all have a responsibility to carry out our Father's business.  It's the Great Commission to spread the word of God throughout the world.  We all took on that responsibility when we became Christians.  There is many ways to do this.  Some people are missionaries, preachers, teachers.  You can be witness to the people you come into contact with on a daily basis such as family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, people at school.  You don't have to harass them and try to force the word of God down their throats, let them see the work of God in how you live your life.  In today's world the internet reaches around the world.   On blogs we can witness with people from around the world and witness to them what God has done in our lifes.  If you are a Christian and you are reading these and don't have a blog join up and starting telling your story.  The internet is a wonderful tool that has great potential but for far to long it has been used to promote smut and other garbage but we have a opportunity to reach people around the world and tell them the good news of Christ's love for us all.

    Proverbs 11:14

    14 Without wise leadership, a nation falls;
          there is safety in having many advisers

    Once again it is election season and I hate politices.  I think politics is a dirty business that is full of corruption.  But for that very reason is why I think as Christians we need to be involved.  For to long we have set back and let people we know are not sound morally get elected and we have let people that don't have our best interest as Christians get elected.  If we don't make our voice heard we could see our religious rights eroded away by our enemies that would love to silence Christanity in this country.  If you don't believe me check out some of the hate speech legislation floating around in Congress, you might be surprised at what they are defining as hate speech or hate literature.  Some would go so far as to declare the Bible as hate literature.  You imagine that the word of God as hate literature.  What foolishness.

    Proverbs 11:11

    11 Upright citizens are good for a city and make it prosper,
          but the talk of the wicked tears it apart.

    You can go to any major city and see what the not so upright citizens do to a city.  We got neighborhoods in this country that are control by gangs, it is even worst in some other countries around the world.  It is a shameful thing when good upright people are afraid in their own neighborhoods.  It is a reminder that we still have neighborhoods right here in our own country that need the work of the Lord to be introduced.

    Psalm 56:11

    11 I have put my trust in God. I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?

    We know man is capable of doing terrible things to another but we know as Christians we have a father in heaven watching over us and we live by his will for us.  We know Christians around the world do lose their lives for the faith and by other means.  But I believe there is a reason for everything.  All of the apostles except for John were executed, but the word of the Lord only grew stronger and as Christians we know death is only the beginning of a better life with the father in heaven.  Man may take my life but nothing can seperate me from the love of God.

      If God be for us who can be against us.

    Psalm 53:1-4

    1 Only fools say in their hearts,
          “There is no God.”
       They are corrupt, and their actions are evil;
          not one of them does good!

     2 God looks down from heaven
          on the entire human race;
       he looks to see if anyone is truly wise,
          if anyone seeks God.
     3 But no, all have turned away;
          all have become corrupt.
       No one does good,
          not a single one!

     4 Will those who do evil never learn?
          They eat up my people like bread
          and wouldn’t think of praying to God.

    God must really look down on the folly of mankind.  Look at our own society here in the U.S.  Thousands of babies have been killed by abortion and it is acceptable to society yet we cry over a few hundred murderers that have been executed.  There is movement to outlaw tobacco while at the same time there is movement to legalize marijuana.  To be politically correct you must not offend anyone unless they are Christian than it is ok to mock them.  You can teach any crazy theory you want in school unless it has to do with religion.  We search space for signs of other forms of intelligent life but laugh at the idea of God.  We won't admit their is a God but seek evidence of the paranormal.  More and more kids are being born out of wedlock and being raised by single mothers without dads and wonder why kids are out of control.  Try to spank a child and you are called a child abuser.  They are about freedom of speech until you mention God and then they start screaming seperation of church and state.  We refuse to believe the story of creation so we create our own stories and call it the big bang theory.  We give child predators who take away the innonece of our children parole and allow them to sue when they are embrassed on TV.  Some doped up Hollywood type or overpaid sports star are treated like heroes while real heroes go unnotice.  These same people make millions of dollars a year while teachers, policeman and firefighters are paid much, much less.  We cry about dirty politics but elect the same people back to office while a person with ethics don't stand a chance in getting elected. Oh the folly of man.

    Mark 14:36

    36 “Abba, Father,” he cried out, “everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”

    This verse is part of the story of Jesus praying in the garden of Gethsemane before his arrest.  Jesus knew what was God's plan was, he knew he must suffer a terrible death at the hands of the Jews and Romans but like a lot of  what Jesus spoke this was spoken for our benefit not for his.  Jesus was the son of God he didn't have to go willifully with the Romans, he knew what was about to happen he could of fled, he could of called on a host of angels to rescue him but no he submitted to the will of God the Father.  Notice He said not my will be done but yours.  As Christians we must submit to the will of God.  To many Christians try to put demands on God.  " I declare you are going to do these for me God"  who are we to demand anything of God.  We come to the father humbly in faith and ask God's will to be done.  Look at the Lord's prayer which Jesus said is example how we should pray,  Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven...... Notice thy will be done, not ours.

    Psalm 49:16-20

    16 So don't be dismayed when the wicked grow rich
          and their homes become ever more splendid.
     17 For when they die, they take nothing with them.
          Their wealth will not follow them into the grave.
     18 In this life they consider themselves fortunate
          and are applauded for their success.
     19 But they will die like all before them
          and never again see the light of day.
     20 People who boast of their wealth don't understand;
          they will die, just like animals.

    No matter who you are rich or poor, powerful or average joe we all face death and we all will stand before the judgement seat of God.  And your wealth and power will not help you, more than likely it will be a liabilty.  Unless you have been faithful to God with your wealth, which very few of the wealthy are.

    26 Lazy people irritate their employers,
          like vinegar to the teeth or smoke in the eyes.

    One thing we must realize as Christians is that we are always representing Christ and there are certain people watching to find anything to use against us.  You might think being a little lazy is no big deal but it could give someone a little ammo to use against you.  "Look at little Miss Christian, she calls herself a Christian but she is so lazy.  She aint better than me."  It might sound silly but I have actually heard conversations around the workplace just like that.  Besides if we are Christ's representatives wouldn't we want to make the best impression on people we can?
