    Romans 13:13,14

    Romans 13:13 Because we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to see.  Don't participate in the darkness of wild parties and drunkenness, or in sexual promiscuity and immoral living, or in quarreling and jealousy.

    14. Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ.  And don't let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires.

    We are always being watched by other people, whether it is family, friends, or strangers.  They are watching to see how we live our lives as Christians.  Some are actually waiting to see us fail, because if we slip up that means their sinful lives aint so bad after all.  Some are watching because we give them hope that their is a better way out there.  I said it before the only Bible some people will ever read is us and the way we live our lives.  If they are seeing us at a wild party or a club, they probably aint getting a good interpretation.

    Romans 12:6-8

    6: And having different qualities by reason of the grace given to us, such as the quality of a prophet, let it be made use of in relation to the measure of our faith;
       7: Or the position of a Deacon of the church, let a man give himself to it; or he who has the power of teaching, let him make use of it;
       8: He who has the power of comforting, let him do so; he who gives, let him give freely; he who has the power of ruling, let him do it with a serious mind; he who has mercy on others, let it be with joy.

    We all have part in the body of Christ.  The simple act of cheering another person up if done in the name of God is doing part of God's work.  I am a very shy person I know I would be uncomfortable standing up in front of people preaching but I can come onto this blog everynight and people around the world read it.  Every Sunday at my church we have fellowship dinner after service.  Every Sunday a group of women prepare the meal and clean up afterwards.  It might not sound like much but they are giving their time and effort to serve their brothers and sisters in the name of the Lord.  And the simple act of setting down with our fellow Christian brothers and sisters for a meal togther builds fellowship in our church.  Once a week a different group of church women comes in a cleans the church.  They are all volunteers but it is still a simple act of service in the name of the Lord.  The point is we all can't be preachers or teachers but we can all still serve the Lord just by giving our time in his name.  All of us that blog on this site are doing so because we have a desire to tell others about the Lord.  That is one of our ways of serving the Lord.

    Proverbs 20:1

    1 Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler; Whoever is led astray by them is not wise.

    I can testify to this from experience.  I started drinking as a teenager and continue to drink until I got married.  And I can say I did some things that I set back and look at today and just say how stupid was I.  I should of been in jail or dead.  I would drive drunk on a regular basis, not just drive act like a idiot in my car.  When me and my friends would get drunk we do stupid things that should of put us in jail.  We did get caught by the cops a few times but because we were under age they never pressed charges.  I suffer the consequences for my drinking not only did I make a fool of myself on several occasions but my school work suffered.  I blew any chances of college, I had to go to summer school to graduate.  But at the time I thought I was being cool.  All I can say know how dumb was I.

    Romans 8:31

    31 What then shall we say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

    This is my most favorite verse in the Bible.  Whenever I find myself in a tough situation I remember this verse.  If you read further on in the chapter Paul describes how nothing can seperate us from the love of God.  Nothing, nothing this world can throw at us can stand in our way when we have God on our side.  It is when we start to slide away from God that we find ourselves in trouble.

    Romans 8:9

    9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if it is so that the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if any man doesn’t have the Spirit of Christ, he is not his.

    We can not be a child of God and have the spirit of the world in us.  We can only serve one master, either Christ or the world which is serving Satan.  The Bible says our body is the temple of God well there is no room in this temple for God and worldly desires.

    Romans 8:5-8

    5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For the mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace; 7 because the mind of the flesh is hostile towards God; for it is not subject to God’s law, neither indeed can it be. 8 Those who are in the flesh can’t please God.

    Most of us can only concentrate on one thing at a time.  And what is on our mind is what is important to us at the moment.  If our mind is on the things important to God that is what we are concentrating on.  All to often we allow ourselves to be distracted by the things of the world.  That is what Satan wants, for us to be distracted by worldly things and everday little problems.

    Romans 6:16

    Romans 6:16 Are you not conscious that you are the servants of him to whom you give yourselves to do his desire? if to sin, the end being death, or if to do the desire of God, the end being righteousness

    We can only serve one master either God or Satan.  There is no independent operators, if you think you are neutral or not serving either one you are mistaken.  Not serving God is rebellion and living in sin and people living in sin are under the hold of Satan, they are yet to be freed from his hold.

    Psalm 15

    1 Lord, who shall dwell in your sanctuary? Who shall live on your holy hill?

    2 He who walks blamelessly does what is right, And speaks truth in his heart;

    3 He who doesn’t slander with his tongue, Nor does evil to his friend, Nor casts slurs against his fellow man;

    4 In whose eyes a vile man is despised, But who honors those who fear the Lord; He who keeps an oath even when it hurts, and doesn’t change;

    5 He who doesn’t lend out his money for usury, Nor take a bribe against the innocent.

    He who does these things shall never be shaken.

    Romans 5:3-5

    3 Not only this, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering works perseverance; 4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope: 5 and hope doesn’t disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

    We know as Christians we will go thru trials but surving these trials is what builds our faith, gives us hope and strength.  Too many times people forget about God until they hit hard times, then they want to call on God.  People show their true character in adversity but so does God.  He shows he is the rock we build our foundation on, he shows that he is a loving father that forgives us when we stray from him and that he is forgiving and loving when we hit hard times and call on him for help.

    Romans 1:20

    Romans 1:20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky.  Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities, his eternal power and divine nature.  So they have no excuse for not knowing God.

    The evidence of God is all around us, in the stars, in a newborn baby but the world have harden their hearts to his existence.  The Bible says they have eyes to see but do not see, they have ears to hear but don't hear, their hearts have become hard.  If they admit their is a God then they admit they have sinned by not following his word.

    Proverbs 19:3

    Proverbs 19:3  People ruin their lives by their own foolishness and then are angry at the Lord.

    I have an old friend, we were neighbors growing up when we were kids.  I love to catch up on old times with her but I hate to say it but I hate spending to much time with her.  She has such a bitter outlook on life.  She has made some bad decisions in her life.  She is living with a man she has a kid by, they been living together for years he refuses to marry her, he has no real job to speak of, she still works at the same pizza place she did in high school 15 years ago.  The truth is she has never tried to do anything with her life but instead of taking a hard look in the mirror she just gets bitter about her life and gets jealous of people that have better themselves.  I am a true believer in that God  cares for us but he allows us to make mistakes and to suffer the consequences of living contrary to his will.

    Psalm 8:3,4

    3 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, The moon and the stars, which you have ordained;

    4 What is man, that you think of him? The son of man, that you care for him?

    Every so often I go outside and just look at the stars and I wonder how can anybody look at the night sky and not believe in God, to me all the proof of God's being is right there.  A universe so vast that with all of our knowledge we still don't understand it.  You can't tell me that it is all a series of accidents.  They would rather believe some off the wall theory such as that then admit there is a God.

    Proverbs 18:19

    Proverbs 18:19  An offended friend is harder to win back than a fortified city.  Arguments seperate friends like a gate locked with bars.

    Nothing is harder to heal than hurt feelings, especially when that person who hurts your feelings are close to you.  Relationships are such fragile things whether it is with friends, families or love ones.  Once they are damaged it takes real work to mend.  I have had to swallow my pride and take that first step toward forgiveness.  The problem is some many are not willing to put aside their hurt feelings, swallow their pride or take that first step and close relationships are never healed.

    Psalm 4:4

    Psalm 4:4 Don't sin by letting anger control you.  Think about it overnight and remain silent.

    You would most likely be surprise to know that most violent crimes are not planned out, a large percentage are spur of the moment crimes committed in the heat of the moment.  That is letting your anger control you.  You do something out of anger that destroys your life or someone elses.  We have all done something foolish without thinking in the heat of the moment.  I have a bad temper, that I have had to learn how to control.  It really sinks home when you lose your cool in front of your kids.  But one thing I have always prided myself on is I never hold grudges.  Life is to short to go thru life holding hard feelings toward someone for years.

    4 I cry to the Lord with my voice, And he answers me out of his holy hill.

    5 I laid myself down and slept. I awakened; for the Lord sustains me.

    Proverbs 18:13

    Proverbs 18:13 Spouting off before listening to the facts is both shameful and foolish.

    This is something I have talk about before, controlling our tongues and the impact of simple words.  Like I said before the only Bible some people will every read is us.  People are watching us and judging us and Christanity by our actions and our words.  This is something we always have to be aware of.  How are people judging you and are you be a good example of Christ.

    Proverbs 18:11

    Proverbs 18:11 The rich think of their wealth as a strong defense; they imagine it to be a high wall of safety.

    We all have heard it is easier for a camel to go thru the eye of needle than a rich man to go to heaven.  When we put our trust in the things of the world instead of the things of God we are living contrary to the word of God.  Anything we put before God is an idol.  We all love security in our lives, we all love to feel secure, well that is what faith is.  Feeling at ease in this troubled world because we know we have a savior that provides for all of our needs.

    Proverbs 18:8

    8 The words of a gossip are like dainty morsels: They go down into a person’s innermost parts.

    I have seen first hand the damage gossip and rumors can stir up.  I served in Iraq in the army and rumors always were running around about when we was going home, about what is going on, but the worst was when people spread rumors around about people's wives back home.  9 times out of 10 the rumors were false but once something like that gets started it is hard to put to end.  It can cause major problems as you can imagine.  But the worst, I saw a church I love fall apart over gossip and backbiting.  Not to pick on the women but some women was upset with the pastor and really stirred up some major trouble.  It got so bad that the pastor, who I thought was a great man and a great pastor, eventually left for another church.  The good that came out of it was the new pastor really put his foot down about that garbage.  And it was garbage.  Them women should of been ashamed of their conduct.  They almost destroyed a church and drove a good man away and worst drove a lot of good people away that wanted no part of what was happening in that church.  You can't do the work of God when you are busy attacking each other.
