    John 7:6-8

John 7:6 Therefore Jesus told them, “My time is not yet here; for you any time will do. 7The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify that its works are evil. 8You go to the festival. I am not going up to this festival, because my time has not yet fully come.” (NIV)

Jesus was talking to His brothers and He says the world doesn’t hate them but it does hate Him. Why was this? Why didn’t the world hate His brothers but yet hate Jesus? The brothers of Jesus were part of the world yet Jesus preached against the hypocrisy of the Jewish leaders and the sin and apostasy of the Jewish society of His time. Jesus exposed their evil and they hated Him for it.

Why does our modern, liberal society hate Christianity and Christians? Because we refuse to be part of their world and we refuse to accept what we believe is sin and evil. Society says that abortion is a woman’s right but most Christians believe it is murder. It is modern day infanticide. Society says homosexuality is normal and everyone should be forced to accept it. Yet most Christians believe it is not natural but in fact a perversion of God’s standard for normal sexuality and a sin. Homosexuality is a distortion of God’s will for sex and if it was a natural as they claim then homosexuals couples would be able to produce children since reproduction is the natural function of sex. The world says every religion is right and all paths lead to heaven which is just crazy since no religions agree with each so how can they all be right and the Bible is very clear that the only way to heaven is through Christ and since most other religions don’t recognize Christ as Savior how can they all be right?

If you take a stand for Christ and claim He is the way to heaven and whoever rejects Him as Savior is going to hell you are going to be hated. If you take a Biblical stand against the evils in today’s society you are going to be hated. Christ promised His followers that they were going to be hated and persecuted. Now I am not saying we should be obnoxious and hateful with our beliefs but we shouldn’t be afraid to claim Christ as our Savior boldly or be afraid to take a stand when needed against evil knowing full well a large part of society is going to hate us and reject us but it is ok they hated Christ to and if you are not feeling heat for your beliefs then you need to ask why not.

    John 6:66-69

John 6:66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. 67Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? 68Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. 69And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.

Only through Christ will you find truth. Only in Christ will you find true happiness and peace and only through Christ will you find the way to heaven. All other ways are false ways that only lead to hell and destruction. It is only through Christ that we are saved. As Acts 4:12 says there is no other name under heaven given among men that we can be saved. It is only through Christ that we can be saved. Jesus Himself claimed that He is the only Way to the Father. There is no other way to reach God except through Christ because it was Christ who died on the cross for our sins so that whosoever believes In Him can have eternal life. All other ways are false ways that only lead away from God. All other ways are false ways conceived by Satan to lead man away from God.

You can never reach God through your own means. You can never be good enough to make it to heaven on your own. The Bible says we are all sinners worthy of death. But Christ died on the cross so that we can escape the just penalty of our sins. There are a lot of voices out there that lead people away from God through false hopes and empty promises of peace and happiness. The New Age Movement is full of empty promises that can’t bring true happiness. Contrary to what New Age teaches we are not all gods because there is only one True God. The Eastern religions such as Hinduism and Buddhism can’t bring true peace because they make the same empty promises that New Age religions do. Islam is nothing but a satanic copy of Christianity. In Islam Satan has replaced Christ with Muhammad as the hope for the world’s salvation. All of these false voices originate from Satan who is doing what he has been doing from the beginning which is to try and lead people away from God and salvation in Christ. The one and only true hope for mankind is salvation through Christ. There are a lot of problems in the world but the only true answer to changing the world is through Christ. The only true way to change the world is to lead people to salvation through Christ. If you want to change the world you have to change hearts.

    Deuteronomy 8:11-20

Deuteronomy 8:11 “Beware that you do not forget the LORD your God by not keeping His commandments and His ordinances and His statutes which I am commanding you today; 12otherwise, when you have eaten and are satisfied, and have built good houses and lived in them, 13and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and gold multiply, and all that you have multiplies, 14then your heart will become proud and you will forget the LORD your God who brought you out from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. 15“He led you through the great and terrible wilderness, with its fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty ground where there was no water; He brought water for you out of the rock of flint. 16“In the wilderness He fed you manna which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you and that He might test you, to do good for you in the end. 17“Otherwise, you may say in your heart, ‘My power and the strength of my hand made me this wealth.’ 18“But you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth, that He may confirm His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day. 19“It shall come about if you ever forget the LORD your God and go after other gods and serve them and worship them, I testify against you today that you will surely perish. 20“Like the nations that the LORD makes to perish before you, so you shall perish; because you would not listen to the voice of the LORD your God. (NASB)

In these verses Moses is warning the Hebrews what will happen if they forget God once they enter the Promise Land and if you have read the Bible before or know the history of the Jews you know this is what happened. Once they had settled in the Promise Land they soon strayed away from God and after warning them several times God eventual destroyed the Jewish nation. And all though this warning was for the Hebrew people you can see some things that are similar to the American nation today.

There is much debate today about rather the U.S. was established as a Christian nation and rather this nation was blessed by God and created for His purposes. My personal belief is that God did have a purpose for the American nation. It was in the U.S. that evangelism really took root and missionaries from the U.S. has carried the Gospel message around the world and I think God bless this nation because of this but I think we are witnessing today a nation that once allowed itself to be a light to other nations that has started to turn its back on God and I believe just as God blessed this nation for carrying the Gospel message to the world God is also allowing us to suffer the consequences of rejecting Him.

The U.S. was once blessed with economic prosperity and this led to arrogance and just as Moses said about the Hebrews instead of thanking God we praised our own abilities and now our economy is struggling. The U.S. emerged out of World War II as a military superpower but in this we took pride in our own strength and no longer looked to God for protection and now all though we are one of the most technically advanced militaries in the world we have struggled for 12 years to put down an insurgency in Afghanistan equipped with the most basics of weapons.

We are a nation that kills the innocent and calls it women’s rights and we wonder why we have a problem with violence in our country. We have ignored God’s principals on marriage and sexuality and wonder why we are in a state of moral decline. We worship Hollywood stars and sports stars and our gods are money and possessions. These are my thoughts on the subject but one thing I know is the Bible teaches you reap what you sow and I think at one time this nation reaped the benefits of being a light of the Gospel to the world and I think now we are reaping the consequences of rejecting God in our modern society.

    Deuteronomy 8:1-3

Deuteronomy 8:1 All the commandments that I am commanding you today you shall be careful to do, that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the LORD swore to give to your forefathers. 2“You shall remember all the way which the LORD your God has led you in the wilderness these forty years, that He might humble you, testing you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not. 3“He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD. (NASB)

Moses here is telling the Hebrews that God allowed them to suffer so that God might test them so that He might know what was in their heart, to see whether they might keep His commandments or not, and He humbled them that they might understand that they do not live by bread alone but from everything that proceeds out of the mouth of God. Jesus quoted verse three when He was being tempted by Satan in the wilderness and He was hungry and Satan tried to tempt Jesus to turn the stones into bread.

We don’t always understand why things happen but God does. We don’t always know the mind of God but we have to believe that God is always in charge and He doesn’t forget about us. There are a lot of leaders in the church that will tell you that the Christian life is all blessings and prosperity and if you are going through tough times it is your fault because you don’t have faith. Well the problem with that thinking is that it is not Biblical. God allowed Jesus to be tempted. Jesus told His disciples to expect persecution. The Bible talks about in several places including here about people’s faith being tested.

In many places in the world Christians go through real persecution for their belief in Christ but their faith is strong. I remember reading an interview from a leader of the underground church in China who said he welcomed persecution because persecution kept the church’s faith strong. That might sound strange but think of this; in the West where Christians enjoy religious freedom the church has become very complacent and very lax in their faith. Many churches have become very worldly and all too often willing to compromise their beliefs in a vain attempt to please society. While other churches around the world face real physical persecution one of the biggest challenges to the Western church is the fact that we do have it easy and our faith often isn’t challenged in a physical manner. Our challenge is more spiritual than physical. Satan is no fool and he knows many in the Western church lack the will power and faith to stand boldly for the Gospel against political pressure to compromise.

One question I hear all the time is, if I am a Christian why does God allow bad things to happen to me? Well if you are a Christian you can believe God hasn’t forgotten about you and if you are going through tough times God knows what you are going through and He probably has a purpose for what you are going through. It is easy to have faith when everything is going good. It is the tough times that builds our faith and teaches us to trust in God.

    John 6:47

John 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

Jesus said that those who believe on Him has everlasting life. What does that mean to believe on Him? It means to believe He is the Son of God born of a virgin, that He lived a sinless life, that He died on the cross for our sins, that He arose from the grave on the third day, that He is returning soon for His church and that He is the one and only way to salvation. This requires faith that Jesus is who He claimed to be and that He is the one and only way to salvation according to John 14:6 and Acts 4,

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Acts 4:10Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. 11This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

There is no other way to be saved except through Christ. All other ways are false ways and only lead to hell. Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, New Age Religion, or any other religion without Christ are all false ways and only lead to one place which is hell. If Christ is the only way to heaven than any religion that rejects Christ as the one and only Son of God are false ways that lead to hell.

Belief in Christ as the Savior is the first step in salvation. Living the Christian life means leaving your old sinful life behind to live for Christ. It means no longer living to fulfill your own sinful desires but living to please God and do His will in your life. It means living a lifetime of obedience to God.

    John 6:38-40

John 6:38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. 39And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. 40For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.” (ESV)

Jesus came to earth to do the will of God and God’s will was that Christ would to die on the cross as a sin sacrifice for the world that whosoever seeks Him and believes in Him may have everlasting life with God in heaven. Jesus didn’t come to earth to do His will but the will of the Father that sent Him and God’s plan was salvation for all of mankind through the sacrifice of Christ on the cross. This salvation is available to all who seek it through Christ and accepts Him as Lord and Savior.

1 Timothy 2:4 says it is God’s will that all would be saved and come into the knowledge of the truth. But will all be saved? No, why not? Man is the simple answer. It is God’s will for all to be saved but God gave man free will. God gave us a choice we can serve Him or not but know this, God gave us a choice but He also made it very clear the consequences of our choices. If we chose to follow God and accept Christ as our Savior than our award is eternal life with God but if we chose to reject Him then we will also bear the consequences of our choice which is separation from God here on earth and eternal separation from God in hell after we die. It is God’s will that all would be saved but it is man that keeps God’s will from being fulfilled. The story of mankind is a story of rebellion against the will of God from Adam and Eve to today and mankind has borne the consequences of its rebellion against the will of God. When bad things happen we are quick to blame God while ignoring the fact we are the ones who has rejected God’s will and the evil in this world is the result of that rejection.

    Deuteronomy 6:6-9

Deuteronomy 6:6 These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. 7“You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. 8“You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. 9“You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. (NASB)

The Word of God was never meant to sit in the bookcase collecting dust. The Bible is the Word of God. It is the written Word of God. God gave us the Bible for a purpose so that we can learn about Him and His will for us. The Bible reveals God to us through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. So many people including some Christians are drifting through life with no purpose. They are just wandering aimlessly with no goal in life. They are lost and without direction but yet God gave us His instruction manual on life, on living the Christian but sadly it is very ignored even by those who claim to be Christian. The rate of Bible illiteracy among Christians is appalling. So many Christians, many who claim to have been Christians for years, have never read the Bible and don’t read the Bible at all though we are commanded to know the Word of God. 2 Timothy 2:15 tells us to study to show ourselves approved rightly dividing the word of truth. We are to know the Word of God and obey His commandments and teach them to our children. You want to know why Christian children leave the faith? Often it is because Christian parents failed to bring them up in the Lord. It is not the church’s or the pastor’s responsibility to teach your kids the ways of God it is the parent’s responsibility.

The Word of God is called a sword in Ephesians 6:17. Let me ask you this, what good is a soldier who doesn’t know how to use his weapon? The Word of God is our sword for conducting spiritual warfare against the power of Satan but we make poor soldiers of Christ if we don’t know how to use the sword and it is own the shelve collecting dust.

    Deuteronomy 6:5

Deuteronomy 6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

When Jesus was asked what was the greatest commandment by a lawyer in Matthew 22 this was the reply that He gave,

Matthew 22:35 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, 36Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38This is the first and great commandment.

What does it mean to love God with all of our heart, our soul, and with all of our might? It means we love God above all things including ourselves, our families, our careers, our money, our possessions, etc. It means God always comes first in our lives and that we live to please Him and to do His will. It means we live to serve Him because He is first in our lives. This is a hard thing for many people because we often love our self above all things or love our money or our possessions above all things but the Bible teaches that anything that comes between us and God is an idol. Whatever you love the most will become the focus of your life. If you love God He will be the focus of your life but if you love yourself or your things more than God then they will be the focus of your life. That is why the Bible preaches so much on the evil of greed. God knows it is very easy to make money an idol in your life.

If you call yourself a Christian than God should always be first in your life. Being a Christian means making a commitment to follow God and to do His will. It means we no longer live to fulfill our desires but we live to please God and to do His will always.

    John 5:30

John 5:30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

Jesus was the Son of God but yet He lived not to do His will but the will of the Father who sent Him.  If we say we are following Christ then shouldn’t we do the same?

This is the one thing that trips so many people up. Many people believe in God but it is the actual surrendering their lives to Him that trips so many people up. Believing in God is great but that is only the beginning in salvation we must also leave our old sinful lifestyle behind and follow God and make Him Lord of our lives and seek His will and not our own. Satan and his demons believe that there is a God because they know God is real because they battle Him for control of the world everyday but that doesn’t mean they are saved because they refuse to obey Him and follow Him. The same is true of so many people, they believe God is real but yet they refuse to obey Him and follow His will.

The story of mankind is the story of a lifelong rebellion against God and His will for mankind from Adam and Eve, to Sodom and Gomorrah, to the Old Testament nation of Israel, and today mankind has lived in rebellion to the very God who created man to live in a personal relationship with Him. Sin is basically disobeying the will of God. God says to do one thing and we instead do our own thing. You cannot say you are really following God if you refuse to do His will. Being a Christian means you have surrendered your whole life to God and live to please Him and do His will and not your own. It means you no longer live to fulfill your desires but you now live to please God.

    John 5:25-29

John 5:25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. 26For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; 27And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man. 28Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

There are many that will tell you that God doesn’t judge us that when we die we all go to heaven because God forgave us all when Jesus died on the cross. We can do whatever we want because God has already forgiven us and we are all going to heaven no matter what. This belief is called Universalism and it is a complete lie because nowhere does the Bible teach this.

First God always hold those who commit sin and rebel against His will accountable for their actions. We see this in the story of Noah’s flood, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, and in God’s judgment on the nations of Israel and Judah in the Old Testament and God’s judgment on the nation of Israel in A.D. 70, and in several verses such as John 5:29 where Jesus made it quiet clear God is going to judge those who reject salvation through Him. What kind of God would God be if He didn’t hold those who commit evil accountable for their actions?

Second the Bible is quiet clear that we will all stand before God someday to give an account for the way we lived our lives. If you have been saved, meaning you have accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior, you have nothing to fear because you are going spend eternity with God but if you haven’t accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior and have not had your sins forgiven then you will be judged for rejecting the gift of salvation in Christ and will spend eternity in hell.

2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

Hebrews 9:27And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment

Revelation 20:11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. 12And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire

    John 5:24

John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Jesus said whoever hears His word and believes on Him that sent Jesus has everlasting life and is not condemned and has passed from death onto life. So what does it mean to believe on Him that sent Jesus? Jesus was the Son of God and it was God who sent Jesus to die on the cross so that whosoever believes in Him and accepts Him as Lord and Savior can have their sins forgiven and eternal life through Him. When we believe on Him we are no longer condemned to death, that is spiritual death. We all die physically but those that are without Christ as their Savior are spiritually dead and are condemned to hell for their rejection of Christ as their Savior. If we are no longer condemned because we believe then it is obvious that those who don’t believe are condemned.

In our modern politically correct world this is a hard message for a lot of people to accept but that doesn’t matter because God doesn’t change and neither does His Word. If you have not accepted Christ as your Savior then you are still guilty of your sins, you will be held accountable for your sins, you are spiritually dead, and when you stand before the judgment seat of God you will be sentenced to hell for your rebellion against God and the rejection of His free gift of salvation through Christ. But it doesn’t have to be that way, Christ died on the cross as a sin sacrifice for your sins. All you have to do is accept Christ as Lord and Savior and follow Him and your sins are forgiven and you are no longer condemned to hell but headed to heaven instead. It truly makes me sad the number of people who claim to believe in God but just can’t bring themselves to follow God and make Him Lord of their lives. Satan and his demons believe there is a God but that doesn’t mean they are going to heaven because they refused to make Him Lord of their lives so when you say you believe in God but yet refuse to make Him Lord of your life you put yourself in league with Satan and his demons.

    John 4:35-38

John 4:35 Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. 36Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvests a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. 37Thus the saying ‘One sows and another reaps’ is true. 38I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor.” (NIV)

Jesus planted a seed of the Gospel in the most unlikely of people in this village in Samaria, a woman of questionable reputation. Jesus violated several Jewish norms of the day by first being a Jew and talking to a Samarian, second being a Jewish man and talking to a woman, and third being a Jewish man and talking to this woman of questionable character. But Christ knew this woman’s heart and the fact that she needed the Savior and He also knew what would happen when she accepted the Gospel. Once this woman came to the realization that Jesus was the Messiah and accepted salvation she immediately went and told others and led them to Christ that they might believe and be saved. She didn’t just accept Christ and went home and did nothing about it, she immediately went and told others about Christ.

There is a whole world out there that needs to hear about Christ and the good news of salvation in Christ will never reach them unless Christians gift off of their butts and tell others about Christ. Every one of us knows someone who doesn’t know Christ rather it be a family member, neighbor, co-worker, schoolmate or whoever who needs to hear about Christ and unless you tell them about Christ they may never hear about Him and be doomed to hell and you can be sure God is going to hold Christians accountable for failing to tell others about Christ and turning their backs on those headed to hell without every telling them about Christ. Salvation should be like a disease, once you get it spread it to everyone around you.

    John 4:31-34

John 4:31 Meanwhile, the disciples were urging Jesus, “Rabbi, eat something.”

32But Jesus replied, “I have a kind of food you know nothing about.”

33“Did someone bring him food while we were gone?” the disciples asked each other.

34Then Jesus explained: “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work. (NLT)

Jesus came to earth with a mission, which was to preach the Gospel, to die on the cross for our sins and to be resurrected and He let nothing sidetrack Him from His mission. He lived to fulfill the will of the Father and our purpose as children of God also should be to fulfill the will of God. As Christians we are Disciples of Christ and as Disciples of Christ we should be following the actions of our Master, who is Christ. If He lived to do the will of God then so should we.

To many of us claim that Christ is our Lord but in reality self is still the lord of our life. As Christ said we can’t have to masters. Either Christ is the Lord of your life or self is the lord of your life and if self is still the lord of your life then you are not doing God’s will but you are doing self’s will. This is just a reality, many Christians struggle with giving themselves over completely to God. They are willing to give God a couple of hours on Sunday but keep Him out of their lives the rest of the week. They never study the Bible and they never spend serious time with God in prayer. What kind of relationship survives with a minimal amount of time together? They give God a couple of hours on Sunday morning but keep Him out of their personal life, their professional life, and their finances. What kind of relationship survives when one partner is kept at a distance in most aspects of their lives? Claiming Christ as Lord means surrendering all aspects of your life over to Him. That means spiritually, emotionally, physically, in your personal life, your professional life, and your finances. It means every aspect of your life is directed toward pleasing God and doing His will in your life.

    John 4:24

John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

God is not interested in rituals, traditions, sacraments and all of this He wants true worshippers and followers that will worship Him in spirit and in truth. One of the biggest complaints Jesus had of the Pharisees was that they made a big show of being religious but in reality their hearts were far from God and sadly many churches have fallen into the same trap. In the Catholic Church and many mainline Protestant churches and some Evangelical churches worship is nothing but a ritual with no true feeling behind it.

God is a supernatural being and God gave the Holy Spirit to believers so that we may understand God through the Holy Spirit but so many churches are afraid of the supernatural nature of Christianity. For many churches the Holy Spirit left a long time ago and they are spiritual dead. They continue on with their rituals and going through the routine of having church but there is not true spirit in their worship because their hearts are spiritual dead and the Holy Spirit has left their church.

You may fool man but you can’t fool God. God knows the heart. God is not fooled or pleased by empty worship. God is a God of truth and you can’t please God living a lie. So many of our churches have sold out to the world and they have neglected the truth of the Word of God for the lie and deception of the world controlled by Satan. They are more concerned with pleasing society than they are of pleasing God. But don’t be fooled, they may please mankind for the moment but some day we will all stand before God who will judge our eternity.

    John 3:36

John 3:36 “He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

Salvation is easy to understand, believe in Christ that is that He is the Son of God who died on the cross for our sins and that He is the only way to salvation and follow Him and obey His will. That is why we call Him Lord and Savior. As Christians we recognize Him as Savior because He died on the cross for our sins so that we can have our sins forgiven and eternal life through Him but we also recognize Him as Lord because He is the Lord of our lives and we live to do His will and not ours.

It is the Lord part that trips a lot of people up. Most people believe that Christ was real and that He was the Son of God and that He died on the cross but it is doing His will and obeying Him that trips them up. It is leaving their sinful and worldly life behind to follow Him that they often have a problem with. A lot of people don’t want to leave their sinful life behind to follow Him and obey Him and to do His will. It is not enough just to believe that Christ is real, the Bible says even Satan and his demons believe Christ is real but that doesn’t mean they are saved of course because they don’t recognize Him as Lord. So a lot of people are the same as Satan they believe Christ is real but refuse to recognize Him as Lord of their lives and so they reveal they are actually the children of Satan because you are either a child of God or a child of Satan and if you aint serving God then you are serving Satan. Don’t let a stubborn and rebellious heart drag you to hell because you refuse to surrender your life to Christ and to make Him Lord of your life.

    John 3:19-21

John 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

The light that came into the world was Christ but mankind hated Christ and still hates Christ because He brought light into their world of darkness. Just think of atheists, what drives their intense hatred of Christianity? Why do they hate a God so much they claim doesn’t exist? It is the darkness in their hearts that drives this intense hatred. The Light exposes that hatred and they hate the Light for it.

It always amazes me the amount of people who say they believe in God and know they need to be saved and claim they know there is a hell but yet still refuse to commit to God. The problem is they can’t bring themselves to leave the darkness. They won’t admit or maybe even believe they are living in the darkness of sin but the problem is they can’t bring themselves to leave their world of sin behind. They can’t bring themselves to leave the pleasures of the world behind and commit to God and for many the problem is they don’t want to have to commit to God. For many it is the rebellious heart that keeps them trapped in the darkness. They pride themselves on their independence and refuse to admit that they need God and need to follow Him because to commit to Him means they will have to stop doing what they want and do what He wants. The rebellious heart is often the most dangerous heart and often the darkest.

Christ is the Light of the world that frees mankind from the darkness and bondage of sin but you have to want to leave the darkness behind and it is darkness and evil. Satan makes the evils of this world looks pleasurable but that is only a trap to snare people into the bondage of sin.

Satan makes alcohol look pleasurable until you are addicted and can’t escape its grasp. He makes drugs look pleasurable until you are trapped and a slave to your addiction. He makes pornography and sexual immorality look pleasurable until it takes over your life and you are left with a distorted view of sexuality or left with a disease and destroyed relationships. But Christ came into this world to free mankind from the bondage of sin but He isn’t going to make you leave the darkness behind you have to want to leave it behind. Don’t let the things of this world that are temporary decide your eternity. Christ has overcome the darkness so that those who want to leave the darkness of sin and evil can come to Him and be saved from the punishment of sin and evil which is an eternity in hell.

    John 3:16-18

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

I love these verses.  The whole Gospel can be summed up in these verses. We have all sinned but God loved us so much that He sent His own Son to die as a sin sacrifice for us on the cross so that whosoever believes in Him can be saved and not suffer the judgment of God but if you do not believe in Him and reject His gift of salvation then you are condemned and will be judged for your rejection of God’s gift of salvation.

The Bible says we all have sinned and the penalty of sin is death. In the Old Testament God allowed animals to be sacrificed in our place so we wouldn’t have to suffer the penalty of our sins. In the New Testament Christ died as a sin sacrifice for all of mankind so that whosoever believes in Him and accepts Him as Lord and Savior can have the forgiveness of their sins and eternal life through Him but if you reject His gift of salvation and refuse to accept Him as Lord and Savior then you are condemned to suffer the penalty of your sins because you have rejected the only way to escape the judgment of God. It is like being sick with a terminal disease but the doctor offers you a cure but you reject it, what else is the doctor to do but let you suffer the consequences of your choice. God has offered a cure for the disease of sin and its penalty which is death, not physical death but spiritual death, but most people reject the cure so what is God to do but allow us to suffer the consequences of our choice.

Many people have a hard time with the idea of a God that sends people to hell but what kind of God would He be if He didn’t punish sin and wickedness? How can God be good and not punish evil? How would heaven be heaven if the evil and the sinful were allowed in?
