    John 11:25-26

John 11:25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: 26And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

We will all die physically, unless Christ returns first, but for the Christian there is the promise of eternal life after death. When we die we will join our Father in heaven. For the non-believer there is spiritual death after their life here on earth which is an eternity in the lake of fire.

The cross has become the symbol of Christianity. It is on the cross that Jesus died for the sins of mankind so that whosoever believes in Him and accepts Him as Lord and Savior can have eternal life through Him but Jesus also arose from the grave on the third day proving that He truly was the Son of God and that He has the power of life and death and just as death had no power over Christ death has no power over the Christian. This is the hope of the Christian. We know this life on earth is nothing but a moment in time compare to eternity and when this life is over we can look to an eternity in heaven.

In verse 10 Jesus talks about those stumbling in the dark. This can be related to so many people. So many people are drifting through life with no hope or goals just living day to day with nothing to live for. That is because they have been led to believe there is nothing to live for and there is no hope we live this life no matter how painful it might be and that is it. Atheism has to be one of the darkest outlooks on life. It basically tells you better live for the moment because this it but I know as a Christian I have hope in my risen Savior and He has promised eternal life to those who believe on Him and serve Him.

Paul tells us 1 Corinthians 15 that if there is no resurrection of Christ then our faith is in vain. He would have been nothing more than one of many that the Romans put to death on the cross but because He did rise again we have the assurance of eternal life through Christ our Savior.

    John 10:27-30

John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. 30I and my Father are one.

Christ gives eternal life to His sheep and no one can pluck them away. Christ gives eternal life to those who follow Him. Salvation isn’t something that is automatic to everyone but only to those who have made Christ their Lord and follow Him.

A lot of people use these verses to justify the belief of once saved always saved. I personally hate the teaching of once saved always saved because people abuse it. I believe in totally free will. I believe we come to Christ on our own free will and if we leave we did so by our own free will. Now of course once we are saved Satan can’t pluck us away from God because we are under the protection of God but if we back slide away from God then we do so under our own free will and we all know people who have back slide away from God. Like I said I believe the doctrine of once saved always saved is an abused doctrine because people get the idea if they become saved they are good to go and no matter what they do now it doesn’t matter they are saved. This isn’t taught nowhere in the Bible but yet you have a lot of churches teaching it. A lot of churches put a lot of focus of getting people to say a prayer of salvation or to admit Christ as their Savior with no follow up on their commitment or any type of discipleship training because in their eyes they are good to go now and soon this people fall back into their old lifestyles with no real change in their lives. Being a Christian isn’t a onetime prayer of salvation, all though it is where it starts; it is a lifetime of following Christ as a disciples constantly growing spiritually closer to God.

Christ gives eternal life to those who follow Him. It is not a onetime prayer but a life time of following Him as a faithful follower. God isn’t fooled by half-hearted commitment or empty words or empty actions. God knows the heart and knows those who truly believe and are truly committed to Him. Think back to the parable of the sower and you have those who the seed feel in good ground and then you have those whose seed feel along the thorns and rocks whose faith gave away when troubles came or they failed under the sway of the temptations of the world. Being a disciple means being the sheep that follows the voice of the Master.

    John 10:17-18

John 10:17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. 18No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

No one forced Christ to give up His life. His death on the cross wasn’t an accident. It was all planned from the beginning that Christ would lay down His life for His sheep as the Good Shepherd. He is the Son of God no one had the power to put Him to death unless God allowed it to happen and after three days He rose from the grave because no one or no thing had the power to keep Him in the grave including the power of death.

Christ died on the cross as a sin sacrifice for the sins of mankind so that whosoever believes in Him and accepts Him as Lord and Savior can have their sins and eternal life through Him. The Bible says the penalty of sin is death and we have all sinned because we are all sinners. In the Old Testament God allowed animals to be sacrifice in the place of man, the animal bored the wrath of God for our sins. In the New Testament Christ became the sin sacrifice for all of mankind. It was He that bored the wrath of God for our sins so that whosoever believes in Him can have their sins forgiven.

This isn’t universal salvation in the way the Universalists teach. Christ did die on the cross for all of mankind but this is a gift of salvation not something that is bestowed on everyone automatically because the Universalists teach that no matter what a person does rather it be murder, rape, or whatever they are going to heaven because Christ died for their sins. The Bible is clear you have to believe on Him (Christ), accept Him as Lord and Savior, turn from your life of sin and make a commitment to follow Him and live your life as a Disciple of Christ no longer living to fulfill your own selfish desires but living to please Christ because there is a coming day of judgment and punishment for those who refuse God’s gift of salvation. God provided the escape from His coming judgment and if you refuse the way to escape His judgment what is he to do but render just judgment for your rebellion and rejection of Him?

    John 10:9

John 10:9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

Jesus is the door, the way, to salvation. There is no other way that leads to salvation. This is also expressed in John 14:6 and Acts 4:12.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Jesus is the way to salvation because it was Jesus and Jesus alone that paved the way for man to receive salvation by paying the penalty of sin on the cross for us. The Bible says the penalty for sin is death. In the Old Testament God allowed animals to be sacrificed to pay the penalty for the sins of man. In the New Testament Christ became the sin sacrifice for all of mankind on the cross so that whosoever believes in Him and receives Him as Lord and Savior can have their sins forgiven and receive eternal life through Him.

Christ is the one and only way to salvation. All other ways are false and only lead to hell and eternal damnation. Satan has created many false ways to lead man away from the true way to heaven. No other way can lead to salvation because no other way can bring the forgiveness of your sins and make you clean of your wickedness before God.

New Age religion and the Eastern religions may offer a false sense of peace and enlightment but they don’t bring you any closer to God because you are still a sinner trapped in your sins. Islam and Judaism reject Christ as a Savior so they lead you away from the one way to salvation. Being a good Catholic or doing all the sacraments doesn’t bring you any closer to God because God is looking for something more than church membership and rituals. The only way you will ever see heaven is by receiving Christ as your Lord and Savior because He is the only true way to heaven.

    John 9:39-41

John 9:39 Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind.”

40Some Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked, “What? Are we blind too?”

41Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains. (NIV)

Jesus here is talking about spiritual blindness. Jesus came so that those who are blind to the truth in Christ might have their eyes open and believe and be saved because those who are lost are spiritually blind to the truth in Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:4 says,

4The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God

The god of this age is Satan and he has blinded the mind of unbelievers so that can’t see the light and be saved but Christ is the Light that shines through the spiritually darkness of unbelief.

The Pharisees thought that they knew the truth but Jesus reveals they were actually spiritually blind and because they refuse to admit they were blind they remained guilty of their sins and ignorance before God. The Pharisees thought they knew the scriptures but yet they failed to recognize the very Messiah that the scriptures prophesied about. They thought they were righteous because they kept the Law but Christ revealed their hearts were far from God because what they failed to realize God wasn’t interested in their traditions and rituals. He wants true believers that are seeking a true relationship with God through Christ.

There are a lot of people living in spiritual darkness today and don’t even realize the danger they are in. Their only hope is Christ. He is the One with the power to break through the spiritually darkness but so many people refuse to acknowledge or accept Him. John 3 speaks of how men love the darkness and hate the light because their deeds are evil. Christ can break through the spiritually darkness of any man but you have to be willing to have your eyes open, to leave your sinful lifestyle behind, and make a commitment to follow Him.

    Joshua 1:8

Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success

God commanded Joshua to meditate on the book of the law. In the New Testament Paul tells us in 2 Timothy 2:15 to study to show ourselves approved. We are commanded to know the Word of God but yet some many Christians are ignorant of the Word of God and the Bible is the word of God. Those who reject that are being foolish.

The Old Testament has been around for thousands of years and still used by practicing Jews today. The New Testament letters had been in the hands of the early church for decades for it was officially put together into what we know as the Bible, so all of this talk about the Bible being the work of the Catholic Church or Constantine is foolishness. We worshipped an almighty God that has the power to keep His Word pure for contamination and I believe it is God’s will for the children of God to learn who He is through His Word. Just think, do you really believe God would leave us ignorant of His nature and His character? When I ask those who reject the Bible as being the Word of God how do they really know who God is they always reply the same, “I feel God in my heart.” That sounds good but what they are really saying is, “I reject the God of the Bible because He doesn’t meet the picture of what I believe God should be so I created a god in my own imagination,” and this god is always approving of everything we do and never judges anyone and that is the thing they reject the God of the Bible because he disapproves of their sin.

The Bible is the Word of God. The Bible is the written Word of God and reveals who God is and it God’s desire for all believers to know Him and the way we get to know Him is through prayer, Bible study, and worship. Just like every relationship it takes to getting to know our partner for the relationship to build.

    Joshua 1:5

Joshua 1:5 No man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I have been with Moses, I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you. (NASB)

The promise to never forsake us is repeated in Hebrews 13:5,

Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee (KJV)

God never promised us the easy life here on earth like many preachers claim, a life of nothing but promises and prosperity where God makes every believer rich. In fact Jesus told His followers to expect to be persecuted for their faith. Every one of His disciples lost their lives for the faith except Judas of course and John who did spend many years in prison for his faith. What God did promise us was that whenever storms came He would be with us. We call God Father because He loves and no matter how dark the clouds may look He has not forgotten us and knows where we are and what we are going through. We may not always understand the tough times we are going through but we can be assured God is always in charge and has not forgotten us. Sometimes the tough times is God’s way of toughen us up for the challenges to come in the Christian life.

One of my most favorite verses in the Bible is Romans 8:31 which says,

What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? (KJV)

If God is for me who can be against me? Many will try to stand against me but they will not succeed because I serve an almighty God that they cannot defeat. As Christians we know how the story ends. The story ends with all of God’s enemies defeated and cast into the lake of fire including those who refused to serve God.

If you look at the first part of Joshua 1:5, No man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life, this is similar to Romans 8:31. No one can stand against you because you are the child of the almighty God in heaven. We serve an almighty God who can stand against us?

    John 8:48-51

John 8:48 Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil? 49Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me. 50And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth. 51Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.

Of course all of us will eventually die physically, unless Christ returns first, but the Christian has no need to fear death for the Christian death is a release from this life to go and live with God in heaven but the non-believer has everything to fear from death. Hebrews 9:27 says it is appointed to man to die and after this to face judgment. That is the judgment of God which is described in Revelation 20,

11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. 12And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire

This is what the non-believer has to fear because all though many have fail for the lies of Satan and has been lead to believe they will not be judged for their sins the Bible is quiet clear that God will judge mankind of its sins and of its rejection of Him. Revelation 20:14 mentions the second death. This the death the believer will never see. The believer is alive in Christ while the non-believer is spiritually dead. The non-believer’s fate is an eternity in hell which is the second death which the believer will never experience.

Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

We call Christ our Savior because He saved us from this death that we might be alive in Him. The Bible says the penalty of sin is death but Christ died on the cross so that whosoever believes in Him and accepts Him as Lord and Savior can escape the penalty of their sins and have eternal life through Him but if you reject this gift of salvation you are still under the penalty of your sins and will face the judgment and wrath of God. This isn’t something I am making up to scare you, all though it should scare you to the core of your very being, this is what the Bible says will happen to all of those who have rejected Christ as Lord and Savior. The Bible says Jesus is the only way to the Father who is heaven so how are you to get to heaven if you reject the only way to get there.

    John 8:45-47

John 8:45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. 46Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? 47He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

Paul said in 1 Corinthians 1:18 that the preaching of the cross is foolishness to those who perish and in 2 Corinthians 4 Paul says the Gospel is hid to those who are lost because Satan has blinded their minds. God doesn’t initially hide the Gospel so that some might perish. It is hided to those who refuse to believe. To those who have harden their heart to the truth in Christ.

I have talked to many people about Christ and some of the toughest people to talk to are atheist because they have closed their minds to anything of the supernatural. At least when I talk to someone of a different faith they have an idea and a belief in the spiritual but an atheist not only refuses to believe but is often very rude in their disbelief. These are the people that can’t hear the words of God because they refuse to hear anything of God. It is God’s will that all might know Him but it is man himself that keeps God away.

The Christian hears and understands the words of God through the Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit that enables the Christian to understand the mysteries of God. It is through the guidance of the Holy Spirit that we understand the Bible and what is written of God and the things to come. Many people fail to understand the Bible either because they are relying on their own abilities to understand the Bible instead of allowing the Holy Spirit to open their eyes or they are a non-believer that cannot understand the mysteries of God because they lack the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

If you are a Christian and you are struggling to understand the Word of God pray to God for wisdom and understanding that you might understand His Word. This is what the Bible tells us to do. It is God’s will that you understand His Word and learn about Him. People fall for false teaching and come up with falsehoods when they try to understand the Word of God through their own abilities instead of allowing the Holy Spirit to open their eyes to His truth in His Word.

    John 8:44

John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

The Jews considered themselves the children of Abraham because they had descended from the 12 sons of Abraham, that is where we get the 12 tribes of Israel from, but Jesus told them they were the children of Satan. The Jews considered themselves the children of God because God had chosen the nation of Israel to be a special people for Him but Jesus told them they were the children of Satan because here was God in the flesh before them and they rejected Him, refused to recognize Him, and plotted to kill Him.

John 1:12 says that those who received Him and believed on Him, to those He gave the power to be the children of God. In other words those that believe in Christ and receive Him are the children of God. There are many that will tell you that we are all the children of God but how can that be when John 1:12 says that those who believe in Him and receive Him are the children of God and here in verse John 8:44 Jesus tell the Jews that Satan is the father basically meaning they are the children of the devil. If all of those who believe in Christ and receive Him are the children of God then it has to mean that all of those who don’t believe in Him and all of those who reject Him and refuse to accept Him as their Lord and Savior are the children of Satan. You want to know why there is so much evil in the world? It is because so much of mankind is serving Satan instead of God rather they realize it or not. So many people in this world are doing the will of Satan without realizing it. If you aint serving God than you are serving Satan. There is a spiritual war going on between God and Satan and there are no neutrals in this war. If you aint a child of God then you are a child of Satan.

    John 8:32-36

John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. 33They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?

34Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. 35And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. 36If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

If you have ever been around someone who is an addict then you can fully understand someone being a servant of sin. Their addiction becomes their life. Their whole life revolves around fulfilling their addiction rather it be alcohol, drugs, pornography, or whatever their addiction is it takes over their lives. I have known drug addicts that lived in completely empty houses because they had sold everything they had including the clothes for their kids and their kids own beds and I have heard of stories of parents selling their kids for drug money. But it doesn’t have to be drugs. Pornography, alcohol, greed, and other sins all destroy lives, marriages, and families. There is nothing positive that ever comes out of living a life in sin. Sin is going to give you an illusion of happiness and contentment but it is just that, an illusion of happiness and contentment.

If you play with the devil and the things he offers you are eventually going to pay the price. Choices have consequences. If you use drugs that are eventually going to take your life. I have never known a drug addict yet that beat the odds and lived happily ever after as a drug addict. If you drink it is going to destroy your health and eventually take your life. Pornography destroys marriages. Pornography creates an unhealthy idea of sexuality. Just look up sometime how many pedophiles had a pornography addiction. Greed never satisfies. You will spend your whole life chasing money and possessions and never have enough. As the saying goes, “if you play with fire you are going to get burn.” If you play with the things of Satan it will cost you in this life and you will spend an eternity in hell but it doesn’t have to be that way. Jesus died on the cross so that you can be free from your sins and true freedom comes in Christ. Rehab and other programs might be great but only through Christ will you ever have true freedom and salvation from Satan and his hold on this world.

    John 8:31

    John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

Jesus told the Jews that believed on Him if they continue in His word then they are truly His disciples. In other words they had to not only believe in Him but do what He taught them because that second part is where a lot of people fail. Believing in Christ is just the beginning of the Christian life. We are not only to believe in Christ but to follow Him and do His will and what He teaches us through the Bible. The sad truth is that a lot of Christians never move past the point of believing in Christ. They never study the Bible and they never try to learn how to live the life of a disciple of Christ. A disciple is supposed to follow the teachings of the Master and to live like He lives but how are you supposed to do that if you never learn about Him.

The Bible is the guide to living the Christian life but you can only learn to live the Christian life if you read the guide and not only read it but study it and apply what it teaches. The Bible is the written Word of God and reveals who God is but you can never truly learn of God if your Bible is sitting on the shelf collecting dust.

The problem is lazy and un-motivated Christians who do not want to take the time it takes every day to study the Bible but I am not your judge but God is the judge we must all stand before to give an account of our lives. So ask yourself this, what good excuse can you come up with to tell God why you never took the time to learn of Him? Because we are commanded to study the word of God.

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth

John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

    John 8:24

John 8:24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

We all die physically and if you have not accepted Christ as your Savior than you will die in your sins unsaved and face the judgment of God for rejecting Him and His gift of salvation through Christ. And though we may all die physically those who have not accepted Christ are spiritually dead and if they die without accepting Christ as their Savior they will face the second death which is an eternity in hell. The Bible says we have all sin and the penalty for sin is death but Christ paid the price for our sins on the cross so that whosoever believes in Him and accepts Him as Lord and Savior can have the forgiveness of their sins and eternal through Him but if you reject God’s gift of salvation through Christ than you will be judged for your rejection and rebellion.

The Bible makes it very clear there is no other way to salvation or to heaven except through accepting Christ as your Savior.

Acts 4:10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. 11This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

John 14:6Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved

You can never be good enough on your own to please God outside of accepting Christ as your Savior and all other paths outside of salvation in Christ are false paths laid by Satan to lead men away from God instead of toward Him.

    Deuteronomy 30:15-20

Deuteronomy 30:15 See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, and death and adversity; 16in that I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in His ways and to keep His commandments and His statutes and His judgments, that you may live and multiply, and that the LORD your God may bless you in the land where you are entering to possess it. 17“But if your heart turns away and you will not obey, but are drawn away and worship other gods and serve them, 18I declare to you today that you shall surely perish. You will not prolong your days in the land where you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess it. 19“I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, 20by loving the LORD your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding fast to Him; for this is your life and the length of your days, that you may live in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.” (NASB)

God has set two paths, two choices before every person. You can accept Christ as your Savior and follow God and receive eternal life through the death of Christ on the cross for our sins or you can reject God’s gift of salvation and refuse to follow God and die in your sins and spend an eternity in hell. And it is amazing how many people make the choice to reject God and continue to live in rebellion toward Him.

God is a God of love and He is a patient and loving God but what kind of God would God be if He didn’t punish rebellion and evil? I hear it all the time, “I believe God is a loving God that doesn’t punish anyone.” Well first if they believe that they either have never read the Bible or they reject the reliability of the Bible and second they created a god made in their own imagination because that is not the God of the Bible.

God is love, He loves us so much that He gave up His Son to die on the cross for us but He is also a God of righteousness and justice and His nature demands that He judges the evil and unrighteous. God provided a way to escape His righteous judgment on those who commit sin, which is all of us, by accepting His Son Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior but so many refuse to do that. So what is God to do if He provided an escape from His judgment but you in your arrogance and rebellious heart refuse to accept Christ as Savior or refuse to submit to His will? Because there are many who do believe that Christ is the Savior and the Son of God but yet refuse to submit to His will and follow Him. They refuse to give up their sinful lifestyles to follow God and they are going to follow their sinful lifestyles all the way to hell. Even Satan and his demons believed Christ was the Son of God but of course they are cursed because of their rebellion against God so if you are living in rebellion against God then you are in league with Satan and will share the same fate.
