1 Chronicles 28
A disciple serves God with a whole heart and a
willing mind.
9“As
for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a
whole heart and a willing mind; for the LORD searches all hearts, and
understands every intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will let you find
Him; but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever.

A disciple cleans himself from every defilement that
he may perfect holiness in the fear of God.
1Therefore,
having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of
flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. (NASB)

2 Corinthians 6
2 Corinthians 6:
A disciples is not unequally yoked together
with unbelievers.
14Be ye not
unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath
righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with
darkness? 15And what
concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an
infidel?
16And what
agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the
living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them;
and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
17Wherefore
come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the
unclean thing; and I will receive you,
18And will
be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord
Almighty. (KJV)

2 Corinthians 5
2 Corinthians 5
A disciple walks by faith.
7for
we walk by faith, not by sight. (ESV)
A disciple’s aim is to please God.
9So
whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him. (ESV)
A disciple allows the love of Christ to control him
and he longer lives for himself but lives for Christ.
14For
the love of Christ controls us, having concluded this, that one died for all,
therefore all died; 15and
He died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but
for Him who died and rose again on their behalf. (NASB)
A disciple is a new creature in Christ.
17Therefore
if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are
passed away; behold, all things are become new. (KJV)
A disciple is an ambassador for Christ imploring
others on the behalf of Christ to be reconciled to God.
20Therefore,
we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you
on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. (ESV)

2 Corinthians 4
2 Corinthians 4
A disciple does not handle the Word of God
deceitfully.
1Therefore
seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; 2But
have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor
handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth
commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. (KJV)
A disciple preaches Christ and not himself.
5For
we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants
for Jesus' sake. 6For God,
who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to
give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus
Christ.
A disciple focus on those things of God which are
eternal and not the things of the world which are temporary.
18While
we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen:
for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not
seen are eternal.

A Disciple is alert, he stands firm
in the faith, he is strong, and he acts like a man. Everything he does is done in love.

1 Corinthians 13
1 Corinthians 13
A disciple loves others.
1If
I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have
become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If
I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge;
and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am
nothing. 3And
if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my
body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing. 4Love
is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and
is not arrogant, 5does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own,
is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, 6does
not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7bears
all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. (NASB)
A disciple acts like an adult and
puts away childish things.
11When I was a
child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child;
when I became a man, I did away with childish things. (NASB)

1 Corinthians 10
1 Corinthians 10
A disciple does not crave evil things.
6Now
these things happened as examples for us, so that we would not crave evil
things as they also craved.
A disciple is not an idolater.
7Do
not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written, “THE PEOPLE SAT DOWN TO EAT AND DRINK,
AND STOOD UP TO PLAY.”
A disciple does not act immorally.
8Nor
let us act immorally, as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in
one day.
A disciple does not try the Lord.
9Nor
let us try the Lord, as some of them did, and were destroyed by the serpents.
A disciple does not complain.
10Nor
grumble, as some of them did, and were destroyed by the destroyer.
A disciple stands strong when tempted.
11Now
these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our
instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. 12Therefore
let him who thinks he stands take heed that he does not fall. 13No temptation has overtaken you but such as
is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted
beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of
escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.
A disciple flees from idolatry.
14Therefore,
my beloved, flee from idolatry.

1 Corinthians 9
A disciple becomes a servant of all that he may win
all for Christ.
19For
though I am free from all, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might
win more of them. 20To the
Jews I became as a Jew, in order to win Jews. To those under the law I became
as one under the law (though not being myself under the law) that I might win
those under the law. 21To those
outside the law I became as one outside the law (not being outside the law of
God but under the law of Christ) that I might win those outside the law. 22To
the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to
all people, that by all means I might save some. 23I do it
all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings.

1 Corinthians 6
1 Corinthians 6
A disciple does not bring a lawsuit against another
believer.
1When
one of you has a grievance against another, does he dare go to law before the
unrighteous instead of the saints? 2Or do you
not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged
by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases? 3Do you not
know that we are to judge angels? How much more, then, matters pertaining to
this life! 4So if you
have such cases, why do you lay them before those who have no standing in the
church? 5I
say this to your shame. Can it be that there is no one among you wise enough to
settle a dispute between the brothers, 6but brother
goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers? 7To have
lawsuits at all with one another is already a defeat for you. Why not rather
suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded? (ESV)
A disciple does not do wrong to or defraud another
believer or anyone else.
8But
you yourselves wrong and defraud—even your own brothers!
The unrighteous, the sexually immoral, idolaters,
homosexuals, thieves, the greedy, the drunks, the abusive, and the swindlers
will not go to heaven.
9 Don’t
you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be
deceived: No sexually immoral people, idolaters, adulterers, or anyone
practicing homosexuality, 10 no
thieves, greedy people, drunkards, verbally abusive people, or swindlers will
inherit God’s kingdom. (HCSB)
A disciple flees sexual immorality.
12“All
things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are
lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything. 13“Food is
meant for the stomach and the stomach for food”—and God will destroy both one
and the other. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord,
and the Lord for the body. 14And God
raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power. 15Do you
not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members
of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! 16Or do you
not know that he who is joined to a
prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, “The two will
become one flesh.” 17But he
who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. 18Flee from
sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but
the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. 19Or do you
not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you
have from God? You are not your own, (ESV)
A disciple glorifies God in his body.
20for
you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. (ESV)

1 Corinthians 5
A disciple does not associate with
a believer who is sexually immoral, greedy, an idolater, verbally abusive, a
drunk or a cheat.
9 I wrote to you in a letter not to
associate with sexually immoral people. 10 I did not mean the
immoral people of this world or the greedy and swindlers or idolaters;
otherwise you would have to leave the world. 11 But now I am
writing you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a believer who is
sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or verbally abusive, a drunkard or a
swindler. Do not even eat with such a person. 12 For what
business is it of mine to judge outsiders? Don’t you judge those who are
inside? 13 But God judges outsiders. Put
away the evil person from among yourselves. (HCSB)

A disciple is a steward that has been found faithful.

A disciple is willing to become a fool for Christ’s
sake.
10We
are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you
are strong. You are held in honor, but we in disrepute. 11To the
present hour we hunger and thirst, we are poorly dressed and buffeted and
homeless, 12and we
labor, working with our own hands. When reviled, we bless; when persecuted, we
endure; 13when
slandered, we entreat. We have become, and are still, like the scum of the
world, the refuse of all things. (ESV)

1 Corinthians 3
1 Corinthians 3
A disciple is spiritually mature.
1And
I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even
as unto babes in Christ. 2I have fed
you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it,
neither yet now are ye able. 3For ye are
yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions,
are ye not carnal, and walk as men? 4For while
one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not
carnal? (KJV)
A disciple lays his foundation in Christ alone.
10According
to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a
foundation, and another is building on it. But each man must be careful how he
builds on it. 11For
no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus
Christ. 12Now if any man builds on the foundation with
gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13each
man’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be
revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man’s
work. 14If any man’s work which he has built on it
remains, he will receive a reward. 15If
any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved,
yet so as through fire. (NASB)
A disciple keeps the temple of God holy.
16Know
ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God
dwelleth in you? 17If any
man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is
holy, which temple ye are. (KJV)
A disciple becomes a fool so that he may become
wise.
18Let
no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world,
let him become a fool, that he may be wise. 19For
the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh
the wise in their own craftiness. 20And
again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain. 21Therefore
let no man glory in men. For all things are yours; 22Whether
Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things
present, or things to come; all are yours; 23And ye
are Christ's; and Christ is God's. (KJV)

1 Corinthians 2 A disciple’s faith rest in the power of God not in
the wisdom of men.
1 Corinthians 2: 1 And
when I came to you, brethren, I did not come with superiority of speech or of
wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God. 2For
I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. 3I
was with you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling, 4and
my message and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in
demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5so
that your faith would not rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God.

1 Corinthians 1
A disciples does not quarrel and cause divisions in
the church.
10 I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord
Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that
there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.
11My
brothers and sisters, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there
are quarrels among you. 12What I
mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”;
another, “I follow Cephas ”; still another, “I follow Christ.”
13Is Christ
divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul? 14I
thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15so
no one can say that you were baptized in my name. 16(Yes, I
also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don’t remember if I
baptized anyone else.) 17For
Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom and
eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. (NIV)

18Such
people are not serving Christ our Lord; they are serving their own personal
interests. By smooth talk and glowing words they deceive innocent people. (NLT)
A disciple obeys the Lord and is wise in doing right

Jesus be with you. (NLT)
