THE
SIN OF PRIDE
Brothers
and sisters, praise our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ for the abundance of
faithful servant leaders, and brethren men and women, who put Jesus first understanding
that the whole of scripture is valid/inerrant unchanging, private
interpretation forbidden, and only through the new covenant of Jesus Christ can
salvation be obtained for all who will believe. Most of us know, however, that
whatever we put before the love and truth of Jesus Christ is our idol and
idolatry is absolutely forbidden. The unbelief and hardness of heart of the
prideful is always injurious to the gospel message and the body of Christ. We all hopefully love and provide for our
families: 1Ti 5:8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his
own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
However,
even though we love and provide for them, we cannot put them first: Mt 10:(Luke 12:49-53) 34Think not that I am come to
send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. 35For I am come to set a man
at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the
daughter in law against her mother in law. 36And a man's foes shall
be they of his own household.
Take
up Your Cross
(Matthew 16:24-28; Mark 8:34-38; Luke 9:23-27)
37He that loveth father or
mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter
more than me is not worthy of me. 38And he that taketh not his
cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. 39He that findeth his life
shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.
When
we put our Lord Jesus Christ first, holy people, then we really understand how
to truly love and care for our families.
Dearly
beloveds, the Bible is comprehensive, it does not guarantee that our families
will love us. In some cases when a person becomes a Christian their families
reject them and threaten their lives, and in some cases kill them:
Let us recall how our brother Stephen, so
wonderfully gifted was not insulted to wait table. He still preached the gospel
to his own and was brutally martyred at the hands of His own people: Act 7:2-60.
Some
of our family members, sadly, will not be a part of our forever family, and it badly
grieves our hearts. Paul notes his own grief concerning some of his own people
who rejected Christ: Ro 9: 1I
say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in
the Holy Ghost, 2That I have
great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart. 3For I could wish that myself were
accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh
Nevertheless,
whatever work we are given amongst the brethren, all of it is important to God
and therefore to us, and we must do it faithfully unto the Lord out of love for
Him and our brothers and sisters. Brothers and sisters, let us not get caught
up in the pride of seeking preeminence in the body of Christ. Ultimately it is
Jesus Christ who places us in His body where we can best fit and serve Him. Jesus
gives all Christians gifts and a place in His body: 1Co 12:18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as
it hath pleased him.
I
pray if there are any angry, hurt/disappointed brethren feeling slighted at
being assigned some seemingly menial work in the church, please reconsider for God
can and will still use your gifts wherever He has placed you in His body for
the good of His body as a whole.

THE
SIN OF PRIDE
Act
6 1And in those days, when the
number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians
against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily
ministration. 2Then the twelve
called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not
reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables. 3Wherefore, brethren, look ye out
among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom
we may appoint over this business. 4But
we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word. 5And the saying pleased the whole
multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost,
and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a
proselyte of Antioch: 6Whom
they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their
hands on them.
Act
6:8And Stephen, full of faith
and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.
Brothers
and sisters, how many with all the power Stephen had would have humbly accepted
being assigned to wait tables for the widows of the church? How many servant
leaders would have been tempted to elevate such a man as Stephen to a prominent
leadership position in the church? Some might
even feel disrespected or insulted by being assigned to wait tables or to do seemingly
menial work in the church. However, the apostles worked to equip and teach the
disciples scripture and they understood that there is no menial work within the church
in God’s eyes: Luk 19:17 And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast
been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.
Brothers
and sisters, the world hates humility. Humility has a bad reputation in the
world. To be humble in the eyes of the world means to be a wimp, a weakling, a
milk sop, a push over, fearful of men, a coward, someone who allows others to
trample on their rights, a person who will not stand up for him or herself or
others, worse yet a lack of manhood among other epithets. In summary humility
in the eyes of the world is the epitome of weakness, powerlessness and even cowardice.
The underlying ideological core of worldly pride, brethren, is that a real man
or woman can trust solely in themselves, draw on their own strength, wisdom, personal
courage and can stand on their own independently, needing no one =self- reliant,
no need for a crutch to prop them up, not even God. God, in error, is seen as a
crutch too and not to be trusted. Unrepentant pride is a direct challenge to
the truth, trust worthiness and authority of God Almighty Himself.
Holy
people we can see why God, eternally rejects pride among men and nations and when
it shows up in the body of Christ. Biblical humility has nothing to do with the
false picture of it that the world paints. Biblical humility is not God’s default
program, it is His only program, with absolutely no options or plan Bs. Pride
does not come from outside of people whether saved or not: Jesus taught: “For from within, out of the
heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder,
adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride,
foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they
defile a person.” (Mark 7:21-23)
The
Bible presents in terrifying detail God’s hand of retribution against the devil
the first prideful sinner: Eze 28:12-19;
Isa 14:12-15.
Isa 14:14 I
will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
There
are too many examples in scripture of God punishing the pride of nations and of
individuals as well. Certainly, dearly
beloveds, there are those who scour the scriptures in vain looking for passages
that exalt the glory of mankind to stoke their pride. However, all they will
find is that God resists and punishes the proud, for God hates pride. love serola

THE
SIN OF PRIDE
Brothers
and sisters, remember, we know initially the apostles thought Jesus was coming
to make Israel great again. They were, at that time, under the bondage of
national pride, and clueless about what Jesus had wrought at the cross of His crucifixion.
They initially saw the death of Lord Jesus on the cross as defeat, and the end
of their dreams and hopes to restore the nation again, where they also hoped to
be given power to rule.
Praise
Jesus Christ our Lord, He changes everything and everyone who will trust and
believe in Him. When the Holy Spirit lit them up, indwelt them, destroyed any
remaining unbelief and gave them power, they stopped trying to lift up their
earthly nation, and faithfully began to lift up the only kingdom that is great
and will last forever, the kingdom of God. Then they preached the gospel of Jesus
Christ as mankind’s absolutely last chance from God for sinful mankind to be
saved, forgiven of all their sins, become new creations, and receive eternal
life, and escape the wrath of God and utter damnation and eternal punishment of
the unrepentant wicked to come.
Now,
brethren, instead of them being turned off by the cross seeing it as defeat,
they now understood the utter victory of the power of the cross of Christ, and
they humbled themselves there. Saints (G40 hagios) raise your hand if Lord Jesus
Christ had you at the power of His cross, and you humbled yourselves there, (I
raised both of mine).
Dearly
beloveds, their ministry was not lopsided, the work was great. They knew they
were not to do the work alone, therefore; the apostles grew the church by the
grace of God, and added workers continually to help. They preached to everyone,
they did not target only certain people or certain age groups, or those most
likely to be able to finance their ministry, only looking to perpetuate their
ministry, because they knew it was not their ministry, but they and their
ministry all belonged to God. They taught the generations how to treat one
another, as well as how women, men and children should relate. Therefore: they
also kept unity, and avoided estrangement between the generations in the
church. They taught scripture diligently, absolutely, and did not assume that
saved people automatically understood the cross and how they should live and
serve God after salvation. They did not ignore sin in the church or fail to
correct error in the body. They taught the body to love all of the body and all
men, to minister to one another spiritually and physically when the need arose.
As
servant leaders, brethren, we know they had the care of their own families, but
never ceased to care for the flock of God. They never let their lambs forget
that they were the standing army, the occupying force of Lord Jesus Christ upon
the earth and the visible evidence of His kingdom as a testimony and a warning
that He will return. They fully weaponized their lambs with the love and
eternal truth of God through the scriptures understanding peace and when to
fight and that they must pray at all times. When the apostles fell asleep, they
left a fully armed flock of God upon the earth to occupy until Jesus Christ returns.
Luk 19:13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and
said unto them, Occupy till I come.

THE
SIN OF PRIDE
Pride,
we know, is encouraged and seen as a good thing in the world, brothers and
sisters. Pride of country, pride of race, face, economic status, various
accomplishments, etc. People in the world are encouraged to be proud of themselves
as an important part of having good self-esteem, or self-worth:
However,
dearly beloveds, God teaches us absolutely differently from the world: 1Jo 2:16 For
all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the
eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17 And the world passeth away, and
the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
God
hates pride. He declares it to be the first of the seven abominations: Prov 6: 16 These six things doth
the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 A proud look, a lying
tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood…
God
will punish unrepentant pride: Mal 4:1 For,
behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and
all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them
up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.
Pride
has no place in God’s play book, holy people, because God does not have a play
book, and God never plays about any of His commands with anyone.
Pride
is a carnal unholy self- love, self-glorification that presumptuously exalts itself
above others and above God. Pride brazenly declares that all that it is and all
that it has gained is by, of and through itself with no need of God whatsoever.
Pride is refusal to believe that God cares or can be trusted to provide for us.
Rebellion comes with pride, because the
proud in error believe that they know better than God, and turn to their own
ways of doing things.
2Ti
3:2For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous,
boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
Those
who are full of pride are contending not with men, but with God who will fight
against and oppose all such.

THE
SIN OF PRIDE
Important
too, brethren, is that these men did not flip the gospel message to make more of
men or women than of God, encouraging their pride by telling people to do God a
favor and accept Christ who died for them not because they were lost sinners,
but because men are of such great value and Psa
139:14 Fearfully
and wonderfully made.. This Psalm has nothing to do with the so-called glory or
majesty of mankind, but addresses the power down to the minutiae of the
Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent God as Possessor and Maker of mankind,
which did not and could not ever make itself. It extols God’s complete control
and supremacy over mankind, who knows and writes our end even before the
beginning.
Surely,
brothers and sisters, God loves mankind, nevertheless the Bible teaches that of
ourselves, none of us ever has anything to be proud of or to brag about: Psa
103:15 - As for man, his days are
as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. 1Pe
1:24 - For all flesh is as grass, and
all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the
flower thereof falleth away: 25 But the word of the
Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached
unto you.
Jer
9: 23Thus
saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let
the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in
his riches: 24But
let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that
I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and
righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the
LORD.
Jas

on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that
appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.Top of Form
1Co 1:31That,
according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.;2Co 10:17But
he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
Glorieth,
glory: glory,
boast ,rejoice,
make
boast, joy.
We
find the apostles enjoyed the same things that most of us do. Some of them were
married and still preached the gospel. Surely, dearly beloveds, they loved their
wives, friends and family, but they kept right on preaching the gospel too.
They were not lone rangers and understood that even as servant leaders, the
work was too big to do alone, and Jesus never commanded servant leaders or the
body general to do it that way. It is interesting that they did not just choose
any warm body to minister to the saints (G40 hagios). They assigned work to those
who were skilled in the scriptures to wait tables. Those chosen did so without
murmuring or complaining, and humbly accepted their ministry for the care of
the widows in the church: Act 6:2-8.
Holy
people, we know that unrepentant pride is not a small matter with the Lord: Pro 16:5Every
one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though
hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.

THE SIN OF PRIDE
We
know, saints (G40 hagios) that it would be at Pentecost when the Holy Spirit
would be unleashed to indwell/empower the apostles, disciples and every
believer to carry out the great commission and to live holy lives through fully
believing and understanding all of God’s commandments. God wrought salvation
starting with these handfuls of His faithful Jewish apostles, disciples and later
also gentiles who would take the message of Jesus Christ to the world and
whosoever will believe whether Jew or gentle or Samaritan.
The
apostles got back on track full throttle and took the gospel message of Jesus Christ
to the nation Israel through the scriptures: Act
6:7 - And the word of God increased; and the number of
the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.
We
know, holy people, none of these men of God, preached their personal opinions
or adlibbed but through and by the power of the scriptures preached concerning Jesus,
to convict, convince and fully persuaded men and women to eternal life: Saul
after his conversion before he was renamed Paul, went right into the synagogue
to preach the gospel: Act 9:20And
straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God.
Again,
we know, brothers and sisters that the Christ, being resurrected from the dead
was not unknown nor a foreign doctrine to the Jews, for it was in the
scriptures that God entrusted to them:
Peter
witnessed to the Jews in their scriptures of the preexistence of Jesus Christ
and of King David’s prophecy of Christ’s resurrection and appointment to be the Head and Saviour of
Israel from their sins: Act
2:31-41.
Paul
formerly Saul again preaches by the scriptures: Act
18:28 - For he mightily convinced the Jews, and
that publickly, shewing by the scriptures that
Jesus was Christ.
These
men of God preached to the Jews, gentiles and Samaritans this same gospel
message. Interestingly, they did not take up a lot of time talking about
themselves as to what was their favorite color, or food, where they spent their
vacation, their childhood homes or events, or clever anecdotes regarding family
and friends. One thing we do know, Brothers and sisters, we know they did not
tip toe around the message of salvation to lost sinners through faith in Jesus Christ,
to avoid offending anyone. They never perverted the gospel to feel good
theology of Jesus coming solely to heal a broken and hurting world, to give
people their best life now. They didn’t tell people to be saved they need only
say a prayer, or pray for Jesus to come into their hearts. In the face of much
opposition to the gospel message they did not bow down to the pressure of the
times to make false promises that their converts would automatically be loved
by everybody and never be sick or have problems ever again, nor did they
promise them that their families would become more loving and accepting of one
another.
They
continually, rejected pride and in humility to the only true God, corrected
error when they found it and helped their converts to learn from the scriptures
how God wanted them to live and serve Him. No one, brothers and sisters, automatically knows how to live righteously
after they are saved it is a process of learning, trusting, living and
understanding that the word of God is infallible, and the standard and
boundaries the gospel has set do not change, so all of God’s people can trust
them above all else as the only eternally true and safe path to follow in
righteousness and holiness in Jesus Christ.

THE
SIN OF PRIDE/CONFRONTED
Lurking
behind pride, brothers and sisters, is unbelief, and a hard- hearted desire to
fulfill ones own will rather than the will of God.
The
disciple, whom Jesus loved, the first of the disciples to believe.
John
20: 6Then cometh Simon Peter
following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie, 7And
the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but
wrapped together in a place by itself. 8Then
went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he
saw, and believed. 9For as yet they knew not the
scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.
Brothers
and sisters, for yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from
the dead means that although they knew the scripture, most of them did not yet
believe it. Of course, there were the Sadducees too who shamelessly and
brazenly taught that there was no resurrection. Jesus could handle the
Sadducees and put them to silence: Mat 22:29-34.
However,
the promise of bodily resurrection, dearly beloveds, was well known to Israel: Job 19: 25-27 …in my flesh shall I see God". Before
and after the time of Isaiah, the promise was still known. "Many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall
awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting
contempt" (Dan
12:2).
Brothers
and sisters, we see most of them had a problem with believing the truth of
scripture concerning the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
Jesus
confronts and commissions His disciples
Mar16:
14Afterward
he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed
not them which had seen him after he was risen. 15And
he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every
creature. 16He
that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall
be damned. 17And
these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out
devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18They
shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt
them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
Upbraided:
to reproach,
upbraid, revile: deserved reproach.
Unbelief:
faithlessness, i.e. (negatively) disbelief (lack of Christian faith), or
(disobedience):—unbelief.
Hardness
of heart: hard-heartedness, i.e. (specially), destitution of (spiritual)
perception:—hardness of heart.
Brothers
and sisters, even in the very presence of Jesus Christ, some of His disciples
still doubted, although they are not named.
Mt
28: 16Then
the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had
appointed them. 17And
when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some
doubted. 18And
Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, ALL power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19Go
ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father,
and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20Teaching them to observe all things
whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto
the end of the world. Amen.
It
is clear that before they received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, they still thought
that Jesus would restore the Israel of the flesh circumcised of the flesh, not
understanding that Jesus changes everything even Israel and the priesthood.
Act 1:6 - When
they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou
at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? They could not discern, brethren, that Jesus changes
everything- better makes everything new, and that includes Israel after the flesh and its priesthood: Gal
6:15 - For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor
uncircumcision, but a new creature. 16 And as many as walk
according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel
of God. love serola

THE
SIN OF PRIDE/CONFRONTED
John
directly confronted the pride of these Jews who felt they had a free pass from God
just because they were biological descendants of Abraham: Mt 3: 9And
think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I
say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto
Abraham. 10And
now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which
bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
John
warns, dearly beloveds, that neither they nor anyone else should ever allow
themselves to even think that God accepts anyone as righteous based on human
lineage alone without faith in God evidenced by the good works that accompany
salvation consistent with faith. God ultimately rejects and punishes all such
persons claiming salvation based on lineage or apart from faith in Christ, without
any exception: Jhn 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man
cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Had
God wanted, brothers and sisters, He could have simply created another people
out of whatever He wanted and continued on His plan of salvation without the
Jews. However, saints (G40 hagios), God in His faithfulness, love and mercy, chose
not to destroy them but instead sustained and continued to help them according
to His sovereign will.
Then
too, one must wonder why they had such a big problem believing that God could
raise the dead especially in light of the scriptures: Gen 2:7And the LORD God formed man of
the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and
man became a living soul. The Lord Jesus raised up Lazarus from the dead even
in their midst: Jhn 11:43 And
when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
44
And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his
face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let
him go.
There
are other examples as well as the aforementioned.
After
finding the empty tomb of the Risen Saviour, Peter was clueless as to what it
meant!! Luk
24:12 Then
arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen
clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which
was come to pass.
Brethren,
did anyone say huh? what? How could Peter forget what Jesus had told them
before His death? Mt 20: 17And Jesus going up to
Jerusalem took the twelve disciples apart in the way, and said unto them, 18Behold, we go up to
Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto
the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death, 19And shall deliver him to
the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.
Jesus
let His disciples know how He would be maltreated and killed in their sight,
yet it was The Father who sacrificed His only Son to bear the stripes of our
punishment, to bear our sins even of the whole world and in so doing it is said
of Lord Jesus: Isa 52:14 As
many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his
form more than the sons of men:
Now
despite the Jews having the old testament records, dearly beloveds, we know
they did for Jesus freely quotes scriptures throughout His earthly ministry; they
in error thought the Messiah was coming to glorify and restore the kingdom to
the nation of Israel. This too fueled their pride.
After
the death of Jesus even His disciples thought this as well for they said to the
Risen Saviour: Luk
24:21 - But we trusted
that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to
day is the third day since these things were done.
They
thought Jesus Christ would make Israel great again! How could the Jews miss God’s
big picture that He would give mankind its absolute last and final chance to be
saved from eternal damnation and punishment for their sins though faith in Jesus
Christ? How could the Jews flip the scriptures in error upside down to think
that God was coming to make any human nation great again? This is a mantra that
has resonated throughout the nations in human history and not the Jews only. Brothers
and sisters, fill in the blank: Make_____________great again.
The
apostles too seemed afflicted with this error, at that time, of seeing the Messiah
coming to fulfill a national agenda to make Israel great again, when it is far
and above greater. It is God’s agenda and absolutely final complete eternal
plan of salvation to save all mankind through faith in Jesus Christ from their
sins, from His wrath and eternal punishment of the wicked to come.

THE
SIN OF PRIDE
When
Israel sinned against God, He would punish them. When Israel repented God forgave
them. Brothers and sisters, we see this cycle over and over again in the Bible records
from God. It would appear that by the time of the earthly ministry of Lord Jesus
Christ, the ruling hierarchy, in presumption, came to believe that since God always
forgave them despite their many rebellions, it was because God needed them
badly and was powerless to fulfill His plan to save the world without them. They
did not want to remember that God had told them differently: Lam 3:22It is of the LORD'S mercies that we
are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
Mal 3:6 For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of
Jacob are not consumed.
Yet,
the Jews continued to abuse their position and to be prideful and bragging, thinking
that being the biological descendants of Abraham meant that they had God in
their bag because only through themselves could He fulfill His plan or program
of redemption for the world. Dearly beloveds, how could the nation be so full
of pride? They knew that when God created the world, He made mankind LAST of all-out of the
dust of the earth: Gen 2:7 And
the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his
nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. Gen 3:19 In
the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground;
for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt
thou return.
Dust,
the stuff is all over the world. One would think, holy people, that in having
to sweep the stuff up continually, the Jews, and all men would see God’s
message in it and have a big bowl of humility on a regular basis. We know that God
has unlimited creative powers, He could have made mankind out of diamonds, or
precious things of the earth, but no, He made us out of common dust of the
earth. Raise your hand, brethren, if you eat a big bowl of humility when you
think of this, (I raised mine). Humility towards God will cure pride.
It
is terribly unwise for anyone to think that without their assistance God will
be powerless to fulfill His program of Salvation. The devil could not stop God,
Adam and Eve could not do it. Except for eight souls, God wiped out all of
humanity in the flood of the old world. Moses sinned and God ended His life,
Aaron the high priest sinned and God ended His life; His two sons sinned at the
alter and God burned them alive, the nation of Israel never kept the Law and
none of any of these things had the power to stop God’s plan or program. God is
not a cosmic powerless teddy bear, shaking in fear that His plan will fail.
Pride:
self-exaltation, arrogance, hautiness.
Brethren, we know that it is dreadful error and the height of pride to take God’s mercy
for weakness or permissiveness: Deu 32:39 See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no
god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there
any that can deliver out of my hand. 40 For I lift up my hand to heaven, and say, I live for ever. 41 If I whet my
glittering sword, and mine hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance
to mine enemies, and will reward them that hate me. 41If I whet my glittering sword,
and mine hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to mine enemies,
and will reward them that hate me.
Mankind,
dearly beloveds, we know did not make itself: Jer 27:5 I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the
ground, by my great power and by my outstretched arm, and have given it unto
whom it seemed meet unto me.
