JOURNEY IN HEBREWS

Brothers and sisters, we resume this study arriving at chapter 5 of the book of Hebrews:

Heb 5:1For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins: 2Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity. 3And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins. 4And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.

5So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.

Again, and again the Bible unleashes the everlasting truth that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, did all things well. He is beyond incomparable, superior to Moses, and superior to all the high priests of the Law and all men.

The Bible takes great care to repeatedly outline in general, specific, and in the minutiae the nature of His character and His qualifications as the eternal High Priest and Saviour. Jesus Christ alone met and exceeded God’s standard for anyone to be a high priest, seeing He alone lived a sinless life, and had no sin in or of Himself. 

For this reason, Jesus Christ, who rose from the dead and  lives forever, is ordained High Priest, Mediator, Saviour and Lord for all eternity. Therefore, God has no need to appoint a successor high priest seeing that Jesus Christ lives forever with everlasting power and authority to make intercession for the saints (G40 hagios) before the throne of His Father (and ours) forever.

The Bible keeps reminding us that all of God’s people have a compassionate, Faithful High Priest, Mediator, and Saviour. We can absolutely trust Him fully, we approach Him with reverence yet without fear of rejection. Jhn 6:37 - All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

Dearly beloveds, some might wonder if He really loves us, especially since we all know how totally undeserving and unworthy we all are of it. Neither can we nor anyone ever earn it, work for it, buy it, bargain for it-No.  The point is that our high priest chose to love and have mercy on us freely for all eternity and He is love and He is truth absolute, steadfast, faithful for all eternity.

It is His nail scarred hands that turns our faces to gaze into His eyes to see the reflection of His eternal absolute love and absolute truth there, that has transformed all who believe and obey Him into His holy people and given us the right, privilege, authority and delight to come boldly before His throne for everything.

Holy people we cannot fail to grasp the great love and compassion Jesus Christ faithfully showed throughout His earthly ministry to the poor, downtrodden, despised, rejected, His enemies, sinners in need, and even the rich that had troubles. The same holds true for all eternity.

Jesus Christ completely met and fulfilled all of God’s requirements for the office of high priest in His final finished and complete work of salvation for all who believe and obey Him,  so that there is no need for all eternity for any other. However, Jesus Christ although He is the Son of God, did not presumptuously on His own decide that He would become a high priest. Instead He waited until God His Father called and appointed Him to this office.

 Heb 5: 5So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee. 6As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

We can proclaim with great confidence that Christians have no need for any additional high priests, co redeemers, redemptrixes, doctrines or traditions of mere men. This is because none of these have ever been necessary nor shall they will ever be necessary for all eternity, neither can they be.

Dearly beloveds, let us give God our Father the sweet sacrifices of continual praise for giving us His Son Jesus Christ who gave Himself for us to save us from all of our sins and to bring us-all who believe and obey Him to God. He came to save us out of His love and mercy when we were yet His enemies.

 Jesus Christ  keeps us by the power of His might. He will present us His church before His very throne without spot nor wrinkle world without end Amen. SAY IT WITH ME HOLY PEOPLE: Let us always rejoice continually, for there is neither the hand nor the power that can ever pluck us from our unconquerable, unbeatable, almighty God.

I can say in absolute truth and without a shred of doubt that as a follower of Jesus Christ, I (we) will never have a day in my life that I (we) am not loved, cared about, watched over, aided to the uttermost and kept to the day of redemption and beyond for all eternity by my (our) Lord and saviour  Jesus Christ, and will be presented by Him before the very throne of my (our) God.
